Er... you surely have heard of power hungry people ... right?
Well, the image I got from Palin so far, is the image that she is not even capable of being power hungry.

Are you referring to the same Palin as everyone else? The woman has spent her entire career climbing up knives she's stuck in other peoples' backs, and at every stop along the way she's punished her enemies and accumulated power for herself. She's Dick Cheney in a skirt. I don't even understand how you came to your conclusion; do you think she's some kind of misguided Arctic Cincinattus who has reluctantly accepted the call to serve her country, or are you laboring under some kind of hilarious delusion that incompetent people can't be power-hungry?

Well, there are people who is incompetent to be power hungry. Secondly, all I've seen from her, is the image where she is unsure about a lot of issues.

Perhaps she is as incompetent as I think.

And you are ... as unusual, not making a lot of sense here.

More Palin and Couric goodness

And for comparison

Thursday's debate is gonna be like watching a baby get hit by a freight train.

I wouldn't be so sure; the bar has been set so low now that any sort of competent performance she pulls off will be hailed as a victory. All she has to do is look decent and speak as if she knows something about the subject matter. I'm actually expecting Palin to look pretty good at the debate. The last few interviews has been incentive for Palin to really work into overdrive.

Anyways, the nature of the VP nature means that it won't matter to the big picture too much. If Palin comes out ok, then the status quo is maintained; if she comes out looking even worse, then it hurts the GOP ticket. So the outcome is inherently favorable to the Democrats. If she comes out of the debate handing Biden his ass, the GOP base/right-leaning independents might rally and they might regain a few points.

It's worth remembering that Lloyd Bentsen delivered the all-time gold standard putdown in a vice-presidential debate ("Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy", said to Dan Quayle), and Dukakis still got his ass kicked.

Glavatron's post deleted. It was funny, but image macros without any accompanying text don't belong in an N&P discussion. Post it to AMP, Testing, or the Political Cartoons thread.

(CARSON, Calif.) At a rare October rally in this solidly blue state, Sarah Palin alluded to her recent interview with CBS News’ Katie Couric, calling it “not too successful” and adding that Couric asked her questions that made her think, ‘C’mon, let’s start talking to the American people about the issues you guys want to know about.’”

Palin said that if she had her druthers, she would have rather told Couric about her plans for reform, putting government on the side of the people, and winning the wars. Then she promptly transitioned into attacking Barack Obama for his relationship with William Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground movement in the 1960s. Palin mentioned a story about the relationship that appeared in Saturday’s New York Times, which the Obama campaign says actually showed the relationship between Obama and Ayers added up to far less than a friendship.

“Our opponent is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who target their own country,” Palin said.

The Republican VP nominee also hit Obama for saying he’d cut taxes for 95 percent of Americans, calling the Democrat’s vow “the phoniest claim in a campaign that has been full of them.”

Palin regaled the cheering crowd with a story about how she was reading her Starbucks mocha cup yesterday, which featured a quotation from former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

“Now she said it, I didn’t,” Palin said of Albright. “She said, ‘There’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.’”

The crowd roared its approval, but according to several sources, Albright actually said, “there’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t help other women.”

“OK, now thank you so much for receiving that well—I didn’t know how that was going to go over,” Palin told the southern California crowd. “And now California, let’s see what a comment that I just made how that is turned into whatever it’ll be turned into tomorrow in the newspaper.”
So she lies about a quote, changing it from something that damns her (charging for rape kits isn't exactly help) to damning those who don't support her, while giving herself bullshit deniability like Bill O and those love.

The Sarah Palin debate method: never answer a direct question when you can spout right-wing propaganda instead. The nice thing about spouting propaganda is that it doesn't require any thought: you just reach into a library of talking points you've memorized, and toss one out at random.

It actually wouldn't be too difficult to create a Sarah Palin debate AI. All you'd need to do is give it a library of talking points, and you don't even need to be creative with the segue: you can just say "I would prefer to talk about ..." and completely ignore the question. Normally, you couldn't create a convincing AI debater by simply having it spout unrelated talking points and not even do a real segue at all, because people would say "a real human would never do that."

Anybody want to make a YouTube video?

I'd do it, but lack the technical knowhow. And, given all the bullshit being slung around by the McCain campaign regarding Obama's tenuous connection to Ayers, I thought it might be a good idea to throw out the Alaskan Independence Party, which Todd Palin belonged to and whose founder, Joe Vogler, said
I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions.
If ever you wanted YouTube notoriety, or just to influence people, now's your chance.

Watching Olbermann last night, apparently she'll only be appearing on Hannity's show and one other--I didn't catch the name--Gretchen something? Anyway, Olbermann was all over the fact that they won't even risk Palin on Papa Bear O'Reilly's show. Pretty amazing.

Yet another in the parade of stupid. And double-stupid, because of the source.

PHILADELPHIA –-

Sarah Palin has become known as “The Most Famous Hockey Mom in America” for her constant referral to herself on the stump as “just a hockey mom.” This evening, she met that title head on by dropping the first puck of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey season in their opener with the New York Rangers.

A carpet was laid down and Palin, dressed in a beige trench, walked on to the ice joined by her daughters Willow and Piper. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”

Her secret weapon may have worked. The crowd in this staunchly Democratic city –visited today by Barack Obama—gave Palin mixed reviews. There were audible boos over the very loud music and some in the crowd had their thumbs down, but there were also many people clapping and cheering the GOP Vice-Presidential nominee.

Once she got on the ice she met the woman who won the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” contest, Cathy O’Connell from Erdenheim, Pennsylvania and patted her on the back. Flyers captain Mike Richards skated over to shake Palin’s hand and fellow Alaskan and New York Ranger Scotty Gomez greeted his Governor who gave him a kiss on the cheek. Palin then leaned over for the face off between the two players and dropped the puck.

The Palins joined by the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” walked off the ice waving to the crowd.

Mixed reaction maybe the Fixed Noise bots, the clip already available on Huffington makes the boos audible over loud game music. That's bad.

Yo, fuck Palin. Bitch wore a Rangers jersey the other day. For the matter, fuck Ed Snider for making the Flyers home opener a political event. Joe Biden is from Delaware, and he isn't invited to do the same thing? That's bullshit.

For the matter, we're Philadelphia fans. We booed Santa Claus. She honestly thought that a 7 year-old would protect her?

No it isn't. This was a Philly game. These are the fans who literally booed at Santa Claus. It doesn't mean shit. Wish it did, but all it is is another reminder that soccer hooligans don't hold a candle to Flyers fans.

EDIT: Fuck, I should really read more so I can see NOS made the exact same point.

Now hold on, let's set the record straight. The Santa in question was a skinny drunk guy because the jolly fat man who was supposed to play Santa never showed up (how the Eagles failed to find a fat guy at an Eagles game is beyond me, and probably a testimony to how inept the franchise was for most of the 60's and 70's). He stumbled around the field at halftime, in a game where a lousy Eagles team was getting its ass kicked on the last day of a 2-12 season. Philly fans booed a shitty Santa Claus, just like they booed a shitty vice-presidential candidate last night.

I think it's less Philly and more Hockey Fans. She interrupted the bloodsport.

I didn't bring it up for the amount of booing she got, but more for the mentality: Well, they WILL boo me. I will bring my 7 Year Old with me so they boo her. That will make a wonderful reel for the news: Evil Liberal Fags Boo Seven Year Old. I'm so clever. Huh? What do you mean my daughter might not enjoy being booed at?

Palin Accidentally Reprimands Her Own Supporters

(RICHMOND, VA.) - Protesters at Sarah Palin’s rallies can always expect to be shot down with some choice words from the candidate. But at a rally here today, the confused Alaska governor mistakenly issued a stern rebuke to her own supporters.

The outdoor crowd was so massive that many were unable to hear Palin speak, so about midway through the Alaska governor’s remarks, some of them tried to take matters into their own hands, shouting in unison, “We can’t hear you!”

When that didn’t get the candidate’s attention, they tried a new tactic.

“Louder!” they shouted.

Palin appeared flustered as she stopped reading from the prepared remarks, which were coming across her teleprompter.

“I would hope at least that those protesters have the courage and the honor of thanking our veterans for giving them the right to protest!” she admonished the confused crowd.

Palin’s husband Todd tried to put an end to the awkward episode by approaching his wife on stage and telling her, “They just can’t hear you back there. That’s it.”

Palin responded, “OK. I’m doing that,” and then continued with her stump speech.
