I'm Stumped and Need Help
Earlier today my computer was running fine, no issues at all. I go to watch a football game and I come back and my screen looks like this:
Not only has it disabled my task manager, but I can't run Hijack this and my spyware doctor is proving ineffective. What the hell went wrong here (and how can I fix it)? Any input is appreciated.

Your computer is now filled with delicious virus, though I'm not sure which one that is specifically. You might be able to clean it by running antivirus from a boot cd, but your OS is probably damaged enough that you're better off copying your data and reformatting.

Looks like AntivirusXP2008 or some variant thereof. Best solution is to nuke it from orbit and reinstall the OS.

I erased the content of my post, I think of of these anti-virus sites may have had a browser virus on it. Ugh.

Re: I'm Stumped and Need Help
I had something like that but it also listed the files that were supposedly infected.
It took me a couple of hours but I managed to get rid of it by using Spybot, Adaware and AVG repeatedly. Used each at least three times before it came clean on each program.

Re: I'm Stumped and Need Help
I had a similar problem, I was nuked by a rootkit virus along with several trojans. ComboFix (google it up, its freely available, but read about it first) helped in my case, restoring control to my computer and allowing me run SpyBot and several other programs.
You probably got a Vundo, like Covenant suggested, but If I were you I would first check for a rootkit virus and then reformat your HD.
I would advise you to switch your browser (anything that is not IE will do, but I suggest Mozilla Firefox) and install some basic antivirus protection.

The browser won't really matter with the type of virus he's managed to picked up, afaik.Tolya wrote:I had a similar problem, I was nuked by a rootkit virus along with several trojans. Also, seriously, ditch AVG and get Antivir, already.

What's wrong with AVG? I've been using it for a while, and haven't had any problems with it.Xeriar wrote:Also, seriously, ditch AVG and get Antivir, already.

AVG does not score well in tests.

I ended up just reformatting the thing, all of my data was backed up anyway so nothing more then a bother. Thanks for the help everyone.

Amusingly, every time I enter this thread Nod blocks a URL.

Re: I'm Stumped and Need Help
It scores horribly on AV Comparative's regression tests, meaning, AVG lags significantly behind other vendors in terms of up to date virus protections. On top of this, it's insanely slow, and linkscanner is the bane of webmasters everywhere who don't realize all those IE6 referrals aren't real.Braedley wrote:What's wrong with AVG?
