So where are the video clips of Obama rallies where you can clearly hear Obama supporters screaming "Kill Him!" and "Traitor!" about McCain, while Obama smiles and nods?

To be fair, the video shows them yelling "treason!" and "terrorist!". The "kill him!" shout was reported in a newspaper article. I wish we had video of that one.

Heh. Even if they were equivalent, I would want to know the exact wording of what he said, and whether there's any proof. Right-wingers and Golden Mean tards are notorious for simply inventing things in order to suit their political rhetoric. They'll say that both sides are just as bad first, and then they'll go looking for examples afterwards. They don't even know beforehand whether it's true: they simply state it as if it's true, and then hope they can back it up later.RedImperator wrote:Didn't you get the memo? chr335 heard some guy say on a call-in radio show that McCain supporters are racists. Frankly, lines like "you see that on both sides" and "the other side is just as bad" are so shopworn and cliched that certain people say them almost by reflex. Who cares if it's true or not, right?

The closest I've seen is a video that made the news a day ago, where upon mentioning McCain, the crowd rises in a crescendo of Boos. Nothing individually nasty like the traitors and kill him remarks, yet the response from Obama is to pause, 'We don't need that. We don't need that.' Settling the crowd down. Once it dies down, he adds, 'What we need to do is vote.' And then got on with his speech.Darth Wong wrote:So where are the video clips of Obama rallies where you can clearly hear Obama supporters screaming "Kill Him!" and "Traitor!" about McCain, while Obama smiles and nods?

What a marvel of horseshit. I've actually had the unusal opportunity to work with Louis Farrakhan in the past here in Chicago where he lives, doing stuff for CAIR. Louis Farrakhan is not an old dying man, but completely fucking insane, and repeatedly denounced by Senator Obama. Furthermore, he he's talking about a Nation of Islam prophecy that doesn't say Barack is the Messiah, but that the Mahdi would be someone similar. Here's an appropriate quote:Count Chocula wrote:What a marvel of repartee. Here's a YouTube clip for your edification:looky here. Granted, he didn't say "Chosen One," but you'll pick up pretty quick the word he did use to describe Barack Hussein Obama (pegging the Islamic Hate-O-Meter).
Louis Farrakhan wrote:Obama “is not the Messiah for sure, but anytime, he gives you a sign of uniting races, ethnic groups, ideologies, religions and makes people feel a sense of oneness, that’s not necessarily Satan’s work, that is I believe the work of God.
What the fuck do you mean by pinata? I hope it's more along the lines of "take a few whacks at the nation, see who kills it first and gets the candy inside" and not what I've heard elsewhere. This is a political campaign for the biggest damn pinata in the world. There's plenty of attitude on both sides.

In any case, wearing shirts that say "Sarah Palin is a Cunt" isn't the same as threatening violence. Plus, Sarah Palin is indeed a fairly worthless public figure and not much better as a private one, and the person who brought the term back into the fray was McCain when he was referring to his own wife.John McCain's campaign has been operating under a similar framework for quite a while now. Under McCain's version of Pinata Politics, the senator and his team swing wildly in every direction, hoping to hit Barack Obama. There's no real consistency to the attacks -- and there's even less honesty and integrity backing up the attacks -- but McCain appears to be blindfolded, allowing Karl Rove's operation to spin him in circles.

It's pretty sad that the mere accusation of Islamic background, no matter how baseless, is dangerous to a political candidate in America. Meanwhile, we have a full-blown Doomsday Cult fundamentalist fanatic from Alaska parading around the country, and no one dares attack her on it.Slacker wrote:He was actually around six. Re: McCain: Obama Supporters are Mean! Waaahh
Conversation I had with someone here who favours McCain (we take sides on US elections even though we can't vote in them; it's like a spectator sport for us):
"Exasperating" doesn't begin to describe it.ME: Even if you consider their policies to be a wash, I would still vote for the smarter candidate. With McCain, we're talking about a guy who finished 894th out of 899 students in his class. He's a moron.
HIM: Well, I don't think you can really say which one is smarter.
ME: Huh? A law professor versus a guy who barely missed being dead last in his class? You don't see that as being indicative of intelligence in any way?
HIM: Well, I'm not too concerned about schooling. He's proved himself since then.
ME: How? What has he done since then to establish his hidden intelligence?
HIM: Let's just say he's proved himself.
ME: How? We have hard evidence that he was a dunce. You think he's gotten smarter since then?
HIM: As I said, he's proven himself since then.
ME: How?
HIM: Look, he's proven himself. We're obviously not going to agree on this.
ME: I can tell we don't agree. Just tell me HOW he has proven his intelligence. Getting tortured is not a test of intelligence.
HIM: I don't think school grades are that important. What matters is what he's done since then.
ME: And what has he done since then?
HIM: The point is that he's proven himself since then, with his experience.

Drunken carousing, spoiled selfishness, reckless endangerment of himself and his fellow servicemen with his horrible flying, and failing as a man and a husband to his first wife are not things that really prove you're a man with the qualifications to be President. Now, if you're a drunk, womanizing son of a bitch who also happens to be the smartest guy in the room, I can make a lot of excuses. Someone's personal conduct is secondary to their professional value when it comes to a lot of things, even the Presidency, where judgement is a matter of no small importance. Problem is, McCain's judgement has nearly always been self-serving and short-sighted and he has no other qualifications. If Barack were actively indulging in cheap drugs and hard women (or flip those) he would still be a better candidate than Launchpad McCain.

I'm failing to see any particular reason why anyone should assume there's just as many left wing "extremists" when right wing assholes are far more vocal and visible about it, and more socially acceptable to boot. The fact that these supposed left wing extremists aren't nearly as vocal is somewhat damning against them being just as numerous.Count Chocula wrote: I dunno, it seems that there are more vocal nutbags on the McCain side, and more subtle nutbags on the Obama side (have you seen any through-the-legs shots of Michelle Obama?).
