Still years. No "constellations" sadly and especially no GPS - until reliable boosters of several tons to GTO or even directly to GSO are made.

Actually, I'm also inclined to launch a few telescopes as well, and weather satellites.

Of course... there are also the surveillance satellites.

We can work together on that, so we can be both rich, and so we won't have to individually spend shitloads of money and end up poor!

Wait... if we launch spy satellites through FASTA, that will get us into trouble. By us, I mean FASTA. That'll... dampen its legitimacy and stuff.

We'll need another launch pad for private military stuff. Like how the USA doesn't launch military stuff from Cape Canaveral, right?

Hrm...

Viva San Dorado!

Maybe Comona can be used for the military launches?

Or San Dorado! Our Super Best Friend!

Anyway... we got a Black Penny down! I repeat, we got a Black Penny down! Super Six One is going down!

For a modest fee we'll be most happy to accommodate your military launches by the way. We'll even promise we won't even spy on your designs (much)!

(Hell, I have to know what I'm launching to some extent, right? I mean, it'd be bad for business if it turned out my brand-new heavy lifter was used to deliver nuclear bombardment satellites into high orbit or something... But other than that, sure, we'll be more than happy to have you over for spy and other military satellites!)

The CSR would just pursue upgraded MRBMs to ICBMs which later would be used to launch milsats, or pressure through a launch with R-7 derivatives or Protons once they are accessible.

We might also construct a cosmodrome. Real-life Baikonur was made in 2 years and it was in the middle of zero infrastructure wasteland to ensure falling parts won't impact human settlements. It was in the 1950s. I think you could consctruct a basic R-7 launchpad in 2 years or so now as well.

Yeah, we ought to have the training facilities, rocket assembly all in one place.

Of course, we ought to have backup options....

Yeah, that's what I did as well. I wouldn't expect much space-related business from the CSR - after all, doesn't FASTA use rockets built (or at least designed) by you?
Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:Of course, we ought to have backup options....
Well, there's preciously few people in any credible position to object from a San Doradan launch, and we're not much farther away from the equator... Pick me! Pick meee! [/advertisements]

Also: I see we can expect some more business from Canissia? Sweet!

The FASTA will develop the technology we can later use to militarize the fuck out of space if we want to. Really, building a new launch pad is a question of money and will - if you have developed the boosters, it's not much problem at all.
Fingolfin wrote:Yeah, we ought to have the training facilities, rocket assembly all in one place.
I don't see why. Launch sites are partially restricted by geography. You can train astronauts wherever you want: if the program is civilian, near the launch site. If you want secrecy, far from the launch site.

Later on, of course, moon training will be moved to the JSC for convenience, but there's nothing stopping us from, say, training Space Force cadets in deep Siberia or something.

Yeah, the R-7 has been designed by the CSR, but FASTA contracts a lot of people for is engineering. The Saturn, for example, will be made by many subcontractors (since it will need ridiculously huge engine bells, for example).

Well, training elsewhere is fine.

The issue of course is assembling the rockets in situ.

That aside, we ought to look into alternative launch sites for other purposes.

San Dorado is an option of civilian launches. But I doubt they would like it if we launch military payloads.

Comona might be an option as well, but it's not inland and we have to ship rocket parts over.

In time of war, we need a short logistical train. We might have to launch either in Anatolia or somewhere in the CSR.

The rockets are assembled in situ. They are moved to the JSC as invidiual stages (which can, you know, fit inside rail cars at speed :) ) from the factory and then assembled in the Horizontal Assembly Building.

Later on, more and more assembly duties will be handled at the JSC, since monstrosities like the Saturn V are difficult to move.

The CSR is too far from whatsits, Shroomania is nearer to the equator. Shroomania, Byzantium... and Canissia.

Let's invite the Canissians into our game! They're an Imperium, mangs.

If they are too far, build bigger rockets.

And the MESS as it is, pursues their own program. I merely help cofund a bit of it.
