Re: Does anyone know where I can find some liberal radio podcast
You don't like to read? Radio is a format which is dominated by right-wingers. I could get into all the reasons for that, but I don't see why you would actually go hunting for radio format when there are so many text-based sources.chr335 wrote:I don't get to listen to the other side very much as I am sure all of you guess and I was wondering if any of you guys could recomind some good liberal talk shows so I can get some information from both sides?

Air America - or look up a specific radio personality. Rachel Maddow, Ron Reagan, Stephanie Miller, etc.

Also let me give a shout out for the The Young Turks. Liberal Radio show, Features a very amusing host. They put clips of their show up on the internet, they stream their show off their website, offer a limited free podcast of the show as well.

Also, one of the few shows who will compare John McCain to the Penguin from old TV shows?

Here's a few youtube clips to give you an idea of the show. All with as misleading names as possible except oneBlurb wrote:Young Turk (n), 1. Young progressive or insurgent member of an institution, movement, or political party.
2. Young person who rebels against authority or societal expectations. (American Heritage Dictionary)
The Young Turks, the first nationwide liberal talk show and first live, daily internet TV show, is a funny, smart, irreverent and entertaining look at politics, sex, news, pop culture, current affairs and personal stories. The show airs live online Monday to Friday from 6 - 9 pm ET. On XM Satellite Radio catch the show Monday to Friday from 8 - 10 am ET on channel 167.

Re: Does anyone know where I can find some liberal radio podcast
I don't know about podcasts, but the best left leaning radio shows are Rachel Maddow's and Ed Schultz's on Air America.
Randi Rhodes is more popular, but she's more a 'Hannity of the Left' than a genuine alternative to demagogic right wing talk.
Joe Madison (aka: The Black Eagle) is also a good show worth a listen.
My XM radio subscription is well worth the $13/month I pay for the 'America Left', 'POTUS 08', 'The Power', and the decade themed music channels alone, never mind the huge variety of other programming offered.
Of course I live in southern Indiana, so if I want progressive talk radio I have to pay for XM or Sirius, as the local AM stations are either Rush/Hannity clones or fundie Christian talk.

Re: Does anyone know where I can find some liberal radio podcast
If you like Maddow, check out her TV show as well. It's on MSNBC at 9 PM on weekdays and it's very good. She's extremely intelligent. Keith Olbermann is also good (he's on before Maddow) but he's a little bit more of a firebrand and less of a policy wonk. It depends on your tastes.
Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things... their number is negligible and they are stupid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: Does anyone know where I can find some liberal radio podcast
I watched Olbermann he comes off just a little too much like a political hack along the lines of Mark Levin but will check out Maddow.Metatwaddle wrote:If you like Maddow, check out her TV show as well. Would you mind elaborating on this? How exactly does Olbermann come off like a political hack?chr335 wrote:I watched Olbermann he comes off just a little too much like a political hack along the lines of Mark Levin but will check out Maddow.
Re: Does anyone know where I can find some liberal radio podcast
Well I almost never hear him criticize Democrats even when they are wrong just Republicans that is the same problem I have with right wing hacks like Hannity, Levin, Savage, and Limbaugh they almost never criticize the Republicans even when they are wrong though the right wing hacks don't bother to try and pretend they are neutral. When you ignore problems your own party has just because you like them more that is my definition of a political hack.JLTucker wrote:Would you mind elaborating on this? He has criticized the democrats before. I believe he's had a few special comments dedicated to them.

I am not saying he doesn't criticize them he just doesn't do it often and all of them mess up. I don't care if he wants to be vicious but do it to everyone.JLTucker wrote:He has criticized the democrats before. I believe he's had a few special comments dedicated to them.

Christ I don't know how you can decode this guy's posts, it's horrible. I hope English isn't his first language, and that he didn't PAY for those language classes.
I've listened to some older Air America stuff and it's ... interesting. Perhaps I got the bad shows or something, but their tone was somewhat off-putting from a non-American perspective.

Democracy Now, which streams, podcasts, and can be viewed on LinkTV (satellite channel).
Sometimes fringes into wacky-leftness, but overall one of the better news/analysis shows I routinely view or listen to.

Not a podcast, but I'm a subscriber to TheAmazingAtheist's YouTube channel. He's a libertarian in terms of his economic policy, but he's really quite tolerable. Here's a sample of his ranting about fundies.

Have you ever considered that perhaps one side "messes up" more often than the other and deserves more attacks than the other?chr335 wrote:I am not saying he doesn't criticize them he just doesn't do it often and all of them mess up. I don't care if he wants to be vicious but do it to everyone.
"Neutral" doesn't mean "dislikes both sides equally" when one would have to either invent reasons to dislike one side or ignore reasons to dislike the other. Or, if it does mean that, then it's not something one should look for in commentators.
This is all even more absurd when your thread is asking where to find liberal media and you discard the first one you look at because they don't attack the Democrats enough.

Re: Does anyone know where I can find some liberal radio podcast
There's a real double-standard here. Right-wingers are taken seriously even if they never attack their own side and even if they use all manner of incredibly distorted or trumped-up arguments (like "Obama's madrassa" or "Obama supports infanticide") to attack the other side. Meanwhile, left-wingers are supposed to be completely even-handed, even to the point of ignoring an imbalance in the actual on-the-ground situation if it favours their own side, otherwise they are felt to be hopelessly "biased" even if no one can actually find anything wrong with their criticisms.

He has had some stern words for Hillary during the Democratic primary when she was using some of the same attack tactics as McCain has been using.chr335 wrote: I am not saying he doesn't criticize them he just doesn't do it often and all of them mess up. Regarding Air America, how can I listen to it? I mean what AM frequency can it be found on? I went on their website but couldn't find anything. I live in New Jersey btw. if that makes a difference.Glocksman wrote:I don't know about podcasts, but the best left leaning radio shows are Rachel Maddow's and Ed Schultz's on Air America.
