Oddly enough I can't find a transcript or any reporting what so ever from the main stream news sources (CNN, MSNBC, etc.) but recently our illustrious Senator and part time Gaff machine Joe Biden has revealed his difficulties with addition:
“John’s last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S,” Biden said, miscounting.
Yessir, the gaffs keep on coming.
Odd how Qauyle was absolutely crucified over a spelling error and this is going completely unreported.

Because deliberately spelling potato wrong on a blackboard is worse than mistakenly saying three instead of four? He was just thinking of the word "job" as opposed to the plural.

Quayle's error was a little more, erm, significant than this one. Quayle actually "corrected" a youngster who'd already spelled "potato" correctly. Biden's gaffe appears to be little more than a slip of the tongue, and anyways, he doesn't have the track record that Quayle had cultivated prior to the "potatoe" incident.
73% of all statistics are made up, including this one.

Dan Quayle was a nitiwit in many respects, Biden is not. Do you have a point to make?
Oh, but wait - the true contents of that sentence are this: "The liberal media slanders McCain. Bias. WAAAAAH." If you want to make that accusation, do it and back it up. Don't bother us with drive-by posts like this.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? Biden has always had kind of a quirky personality and comes off as....odd, but knowledgable. I think that has helped him work these gaffes into his political persona.

A slip of the tongue is hardly relevant at this stage. If mudslinging if the "DAT DERE NEGRO'S A TERRIST!" variety isn't going to have an effect, you can sure as shit no one cares that the vp-to-be accidentally said "three" instead of "four."
This is actually pretty mild by the standards of gaffs in this campaign. Like Obama's "57 states" or whatever number he gave, McCain's more serious mixup about the Iraq/Pakistan border or his comments about Spain, etc. Ironically, Biden probably has the fewest serious gaffs on either ticket.

On a more constructive note - and feel free to split this tangent if you'd like - what are the odds that, given that Obama wins now and again in 2012, Biden would be the primary contender for the nomination in 2016? He's 66 already; in eight years he'll be older than McCain is today. Is it likely we'll see Biden hustled out for some young turk, as Kennedy doubtlessly intended for Johnson?

I'd say very unlikely. He'll not run when he's that ancient, I suspect. For anyone whose going to play the 'Selfish politician' schtick, it is worth noting Biden breaks that mold by his act of still living in Delaware because of his family's situation.

That's a shame, since I think Biden would make a damn fine President, and I find him immensely appealing on a personal level. Still, I suppose that political reality always triumphs, and I'm certain he won't prove to be as much a vindicative and ambitious old jackass like Lyndon Johnson was. Let's just hope that whoever does take up the mantle proves to have Obama's vision and sense of purpose.

Biden strikes me as the kind of guy who knows when to say "enough is enough" and shuffle off to a tropical beach (or some other comfortable retirement spot) for the rest of his days. I doubt he'll run in 2012, much less 2016.

Appalling! Simply, absolutely appalling. Throw Biden out of the Senate and send him back to grade school. Completely unacceptable for a man running for Vice President. I am utterly disgusted! My eyes are practically bleeding at the atrocious occurrence
Oh wait, this thread is completely without substance. How is this news?

You can't have fair and balanced news coverage if you don't dig up something to use against the guy! It makes everyone else look bad.

I expect he will run in 2012 if only because it would upset the early environment to have the entire FOX News apparatus screaming "dissent in Democratic ranks" for a couple extra months if Biden gets dropped from the ticket. Admittedly second term would be the time to bring an up and comer like Schweitzer in MT or Kaine (who will be out of a job in 2011) in VA.

That's actually not that uncommon. Back when I worked in Washington last summer, I saw Senator Tom Carper and Congressman Mike Castle getting on the same 7:10 train that I was taking to Washington on weekdays. I never saw Biden; I think he took an earlier train.
