And why the hell is Stas working together with Shep? Sweet Jesus Christ!
Because I need Astaria's sea cargo ships to go down once and for all. Shep offered a way to do it, a way which was far more resultative than my first blind-rage strike.

If Astaria's ships go down under, I doubt it would seriously hamper their nation (they are already a fucking autarky!). However, it would prevent slaves from being shipped to Astaria. For a good period of time.

Hrm... Fingolfin is right. Things were more interesting when it was OMSK-MESS, rather than with the UAR and shit.

I loved Stas' caricatures, with those dudes yelling "OMSK THREAT!" and all that!

I fleshed out the Invisible Hand ocean surveillance vessels a bit more in the OOB. They aren't exactly T-AGOS-23 replicas, as I stated before. Merely carrying the Sonar same package, but are larger and are armed. Plus, they come with 2 engine systems, water jets and screws. Screws for up to 30knots, waterjets at 12 during silent operation.

Shroomania would also like to pitch the option of using nuclear-powered sonar buoys , spread them around the places we'd like to listen to, but can't patrol due to the fact that we don't have binillions of submarines.

Er... I would instead recommend Radioisotope thermoelectric generator instead, given that these buoys are going to be huge using those reactors...

But that aside, buoys have their weaknesses in that the thermocline layer if I am not wrong, will reflect off the sonar.

I think a series of floating buoys and sea floor mounted sonar might be better. Of course, it's not that simple since floating buoys can be found and destroyed.

The buoys submerged beneath the water might be a better bet, but that increases the complexity of the buoy.

What if Shroompeace lays their hands on those? And maybe facilitate a disaster :) They could do it to spread the anti-nuclear hysteria ;)

That's still nuclear power, right?

Anyway, it'll be the same nuclear energy that powers those satellites... in space!

Yeah, Shroomania will provide nuclear batteries for FASTA's space stuff, but before we do that, we might as well test designs in buoys.

Of course, buoys will have their share of drawbacks... but Shep suggested them! It'll work!

And Shroompeace won't know. We won't tell anyone that they're nuclear. :D

EDIT:

I was actually thinking of how awesome it would be to have unmanned submarine probes that patrol the oceans, never needing to refuel thanks to their nuclear reactors and stuff. They'd listen in on sonar and shit, and report their findings, and would never stop patrolling!

But that's silly.

I'm thinking of deploying probes, but there are a lot of difficulties. For one thing is patrol range, which is bound to be limited. There's no way for them to report their findings without some... cable floating up to the surface.

Well, one idea would be large sonobouys that had multiple sonar sets at various depths along a line. Power could be solar and ocean thermal (exploits the difference in temperature between the deep ocean and the surface).

So this is what i have been thinking:

We build a series of buoys anchored to the ocean floor. The buoy would be one long thick segmented cylinder. The buoy is subdivided in 4 sections (or more really). Each section will have acoustic hearing equipment located not only on the body but also 4 point cable arrays stretching out from buoy itself.

The buoy might extend up to the sea surface with a solar panel at the tip. I'm not sure if this would be done, because I don't want a ship to go over it and destroy the panel or get entangled with the buoy. Alternatively, the buoy would be 50meters below surface.

Planting these buoys would take years. For starters the seafloor must be thoroughly mapped. If we assume that it is mapped, we can plant all the buoys within 2-3 years.

For communication to the outside world, I think we need to lay cables on the seafloor to receiver stations. Like Comona, Crete.

Also, I apologize, but I am going to glaze over King Brandon's trips to the CSR and Canissia, and assume I did a decent job of convincing people that the Vineyards are a nice, safe, happy, and not going to destroy things if you set up a branch office there, place.

The ASF-10Cs are generally valued at $75M/unit, though for bulk orders they can be lowered by about five to ten percent I figure (given Cascadia's historic friendship with Alaska and standing business interests by Boeing Corp, it'll probably be a 10% reduction or more: say $65-$67.5M/unit depending on the extent and timing of the order).

I figure that when not counting hardware differences, the Cascadian and CSR propositions can be measured by Cascadia's proximity to Alaska and relationship, permitting a short line of supply and ready, easy access to spare parts and even licenses to produce them, while if the CSR is anything like the Soviet Union their aircraft will seem very cheap compared to their real world cost (in the USSR the military did, IIRC, typically "buy" its equipment at cheaper costs than was real due to how the Soviet economy was arranged).

Oh Cascadia's Condors are the leading candidate for the reasons that you've mentioned, but the other options passed the first round as well.

I put my aircraft priced at 60 million, falling to 55 million for mass production. From GlobalSecurity, they list the fighter at 58 million, but that is largely because of the way the Europeans chose to produce the aircraft. The aircraft here is produced locally in Byzantium, and we are the only current users of the new aircraft, being a local development of the aircraft itself. Moreover, I would guarantee that any aircraft deal will be fully provided with maintenance training, and spare parts.

To flesh the fighter out a bit more, the fighter, like the F/A-18, F-16 or F-15, has a two seater and one seater version. The two seater is of course, used for air-to-ground attacks (cost a 3 million more than the single seater). The single seater of course has air to ground capabilities.

Just a notice that by now the KC-22s (An-22s) that Cascadia acquired from Shepistan and sold have been finished with quality inspections and are probably mostly delivered to the purchasing nations. 12 went to Langley, 60 to Tonkin, and 50 to Shroomania.

The remaining eighteen not bought by another nation and not assigned officially to the Cascadian Defense Department have been sold to other.... sources.

Very good! Very good!

Su-34: $40 million
Su-35BM: $55 million
Supply rate: 10 vehicles per year

You are paying for bulk shipping, of course. But that's a minor factor in the cost.

Marius:

Is it too late for Shroomania to enter the F-16XL and the F-15 ACTIVE with 4.5 generation technology, including super cruise and avionics and all that neat stuff for $50-60 million per plane?

Here is mein post selling them.

I can also offer stratellites (lower part of the post).

Er... I would instead recommend Radioisotope thermoelectric generator instead, given that these buoys are going to be huge using those reactors...
That's what I recommended to Shroomy; use RTG buoys to trickle charge the batteries on the buoys for intermittent use etc.

How are they deployed in real life? I can't find much technical data on the SOSUS system. Then again, the SOSUS is bloody old technology.
