I used to do that too. Then I had my first week of teaching first years. Half of them hadn't seen a westerner before, so out came all of the camera phones so they could show their parents. Nothing makes you relax in front of a camera quite like having hundreds of photos taken every day.

Yeah, I'm a bit gunshy of cameras, so to speak, and tend to compensate when having my picture taken by adapting a fairly rigid pose (Meredith managed to get some genuinely relaxed pictures of me, though god knows if she'll ever put them online. I've actually pressed her to).

You have a few facial features that look vaguely Eastern European and your screen name probably puts a bit of a subconscious emphasis on those. If you had a stereotypically British or Irish (screen) name, people would probably think "Northern European!"

I have that same problem for some reason, I always look stiff or forced in pictures unless I'm on my mountain bike or there's a sexy woman beside me. Even the latter fails at times.

Screw that. I was using the timer, so it was hard enough getting myself in the frame, let alone looking decent. It's a reall ass having to go over and press the button again and again.

I dunno. People ask me in real life too, and I don't go around introducing myself as "Lusankya" then. Instead, I use my real name, which just screams "English!"
