Dungeon Keeper 2 and Vista 64
I've got some problems playing DK2 on Vista, but I believe it's driver related. Ingame, the screen is blank until something moves, and then that screen area will statically move around if you pan the camera. Apparently, this is due to driver changes made by Nvidia at some time in the distant past (like 58.60 or something). My question would be, is there any way to get around this? DK2 is fucking cool.

I have similar problem getting DK2 to work reasonably well, but on XP. I do know that nVidia loves to drop old games from their drivers to my extreme annoyance (I'm running some godawfully old video drivers right now so I can run Neverwinter Nights). You can do what I did to play CoD4 and swap fucking drivers every time you want to play one game or the other, but that fucking sucked. I'm not sure what else to tell you, unfortunately.

A virtual machine? Load up one of the earlier versions of windows and play it in that.Stark wrote:I've got some problems playing DK2 on Vista, but I believe it's driver related. The game requires 3D acceleration, which means using VMWare Workstation (not cheap) and hoping that it works.Dominus Atheos wrote:A virtual machine? Load up one of the earlier versions of windows and play it in that.

Based on this idea, I went ahead and tried this.
The tunneling of direct 3d traffic works flawlessly on workstation 6.5 (but BSOD on 6.0.4).
UNFORTUNATELY, what that means is that it passes all the requests through to Vista, which then screws the whole thing up in exactly the same way.
So you get a nice DK2 in a window under vmware ... with black blocks where your graphics should be.
