Only the scratch of hard chitin on rock signals the approach of one of the most feared servants of the Shadow Lord. A set of glistening spikes and glittering mandibles continually click and scrape as this giant predator stalks its favoured prey- humans. These twisted and misshapen hunters are the size of an adult dragon and have been known to hunt in packs. A swarm of the mammoth Bebiliths cannot be stopped by anything known in this world…or any other.
I know of one thing. It's a newfangled invention called "fire".

Seriously, that's it? Angsty vampires, goblins and flying skulls?

Only the spiders are creepy ;)

I'm thinking my shadowbinders might be of some use here. Being able to manipulate darkness and all. Would direct exposure to sunlight destroy one of these crystals?

This is the inscription on the gates which protect the eastern approach to the Kingdom of Egypt:

"I am Pharaoh Atum-Ra, the king of the world, the great king, the mighty king, king of Thebes, king of the four ends of the world. Son of the great goddess Neit, honoured by the gods of the city of Sais, king of Upper and Lower Egypt, khrjep-prophet, renep-prophet, attendant of the gods who lie in Khet-Bjet, keeper of the Eye of Horus. At the call of Anubis and Asar I came up from the eternal sands and took my rightful place among the beings of the earth. The peoples of Dendara and of Abydos, of Qau and Amarna bow to me. I drove out the false gods from Tanis and Bubastis. I took Memphis and slew the false priests of Saqqara and Medyum. I returned the gods to their house in the great temples of Luxor and Karnak. I rebuilt the Walls-of-the-Ruler, so that all may know my name and worship me."

You may have guessed it: As befits a Pharaoh, Akum-Ra has an ego the size of the sun :). He may or may not be the incarnation of the eternal sun-god (hi Shady ), and he has a whole host of bizarre Egyptian creatures at his beck and call. Otherwise, though, Egypt is going to be a pretty cool (if weird) place where the folks are more preoccuppied with building gigantic temples, fashioning great magicks and doing other assorted awesome Egyptian things than with conquest.

I'll expand in a regular fashion, just keep your grubby hands off anywhere near to me and there will be no trouble.

That's excellent, actually. I wanted the North, as it's just across the water from me.

Frankly, I am thinking we should open up a politics thread where we can discuss our political predilections, make pacts/treaties etc. and begin to round out how our countries basic interactions are. This will allow us to avoid having people metagame alliances that make no political sense and allow us to have a basic idea how to RP interactions between diplomats/generals/etc.

I'm cool with the politics thread. Just so, that we hold off our expansions for a while, because some of us are still trying to decide on our OOB.

Indeed. I'd also say maybe our diplomatic relations aren't really going to be "allies 4 life yo!" yet, since we're remote enough from each other at this point that it'd be a little silly. Non-aggression pacts and trade treaties I could see though, unless you're like some war-mongering uber-expansionist regime or something.

Except for maybe Norseman and that person below him, and anyone else so close together that contact probably has been made between the two powers by now. But in my case (for an example), nobody is really close enough to me that I'd know much more about them than what my traders or explorers might have related. Slightly better than rumors I guess but not by much.

Just sayin'.

Well, the politics thread is in the same vein as the OoB. You probably need some info up in it just so people know what is going on. A big problem I have noticed in past STGOD games is that players write up their faction and then it gets played out highly opposite of what their OoB suggests it would react to the situations advanced. If your faction is anti-religion, any theocratic government will probably rile you up, and no real friendship could probably exist. A theocracy will probably have trouble cooperating with secular governments, but could work together well enough to functionally accomplish a mission together, but intergovernment cooperation would be next to impossible, while two similar secular govs can be best friends and dance in fields of flowers and bake cookies together.

I think we really need people to be willing to go to war for reasons that aren't purely strategic, because otherwise we are just making up a story for our chess game, and that kinda blows.

Non-aggression pact sounds very good, although I think I'll still station a good portion of my soldiers on the eastern border. Having a dark kingdom of brooding evil on my doorstep makes the Priests of Horus nervous, y'see. We didn't build the Walls-of-the-Ruler for nothing .

As for expansion to the Suez... That's a little close for comfort - Suez is pretty much next door from Memphis, my capital city. You can have the Sinai, but I'd prefer if those two counties immediately east of my borders were either annexed by me or were to stay neutral territory.

For my nation here, i will take a Bastard Hybrid of the Soviet Union and Tsarist Russia which is going to be called the Red Tsardom. Located on the Sight of Moscow and surrounding area.

Basic Information

Orginization-No Nobility besides the Red Tsar, the Tsardom is devided into districts run by elected councils (Soviets) and Tsar appointed officials (Commissars). Each area has a specific tax duty to the throne.

The Head of State is the Red Tsar (currently Tsar Mikhail-I), below him is the Supreme Soviet (made from representitives of each Soviet), a parliamentry house.

Largely industrialized capital of Moscow, science and technology handled primarilly by the Imperial Accademy of Engineering and Science. Public education mandatory between ages 6 and 14. All Midwifes state employed and certified in basic sanitation.

Has a fair sized population of Ursiods (Sapient Brown Bears with Thumbs and volcal cords)

The Tsardom's military is a standing army, including large forces of Flintlock armed soldiers (Streltsi), Rocket Artillery and Cannons, with cavalry support comming from the Ursiods and Light Cavalry armed with Sabre and Revolver from the Imperial Cavalry Accademy. Local soviets can not have their own troops, but must maintain local Police Forces to go alongside the Imperial Mounted Police.

Criminal Justice System makes heavy use of Prison Labour, including community service and being sent to Labour Settlements (Run by the Chief Administration of Corrective Labor Camps and Colonies, which, along with it's facillities is known by the Term of Gulag) with execution being done for serious crimes (murder, rape, treason), with only one form being used (firing squad). Children of Criminals get sent to state run orphanages/schools.

In General there is Religious Freedom, with laws against discrimination. However all Faiths worshiped in the Red Tsardom must be approved by the State, or be deemed underground cults and a Hazard to the Security and Well being of the Tsardom and her People.

Few spellcasters beyond Medics.

State ownership of all Steelmills, weapons factories, mines, bars and (most importantly) Vodka Distilleries.

Greatcoats very popular fashion item.

The Tsardom is Expantionist, and with a population that hates nobility. The Nobles of Newly annexed territory are either reduced to minor beurocrats in the Tsardom's infastrcuture, or if they put up any resistance go straight to were most citizens of the Red Tsardom think such ilk should go and get carted off the Gulag.
