This shit should be common sense.

Post by Bug-Eyed Earl »

The sheer amount of power conveyed in a Star Wars battle makes Star Trek look like nothing. And that's just from watching- other than a few minutes of reading for those who don't get that SW lasers aren't true lasers, it all should be common sense. But we still get the Darkstars of the world who can't accept it. really, there should be no need for this forum other than personal enjpyment, not passionate, insane debates that make no sense on the Trekkie's side.

Wouldn't you agree?

Most Trekkies who still think ST can win are so deluded it isn't funny. To them, a thousand to one speed, industrial, numerical, and firepower advantage are meaningless. In their minds ST would win because the Federation is supposedly smart and has better tactics.

[rabid trekkie]All hail the invincible power of Treknobabble![/rabid trekkie]

They think if they can spread enough bullshit, no noe will notice that their argument makes no sense. Its simply a distraction from the real issues.

If you put Trek ships in the Wars universe Trek dies.
If you put Wars ships in the Trek universe Wars dies.

Trek's fantasy physics would crush Wars ships.
Wars multigigaton weapons would crush Trek ships.

Trek physics probably wouldn't crush SW ships; SW ships are pretty resilient.

Trek ships, on the other hand, couldn't survive without Trek physics, since they will immediately fall apart if their technobabble fields (like ever-popular Structural Integrity Field) were to fail. Without all their subspace gizmos, Trek ships are junk.

Hm maybe Star Wars ships wouldn't be able to survive all the ship-sized singularities out there. Now how weird is that?

When I first came across this site (Spanky showed it to me early in highschool), I thought the idea of objectively comparing the technology levels of Star Wars and Star Trek by evidence was, though interesting and refreshingly intelligent by most internet debate standards, was pretty obvious. I mean, who else wouldn't admit that a 25,000 year-old spacefaring civilization spanning millions of worlds had better technology than one that had only been in space for 400 and had <200 planets, except a lowly, rabid trekkie whose only line of reasoning is 'favorite show>other show'?

Other than what was eventually covered in the new "SW vs ST in five minutes" page, I never really saw a use to arguing the subject any further than the obvious. Discussing minor technical details in a non-versus mannor is one thing, but the subject as a whole is such a dead horse, and I feel most people simply set it up like an arena battle just for their own unenlightening entertainment.

Wars ships aren't going to go looking around for all these fantasy physics phenomena. They'll never encounter them.

I'm waiting for B&B to put in something along those lines where they meet something with weapons akin to an ISD.

Common sense is indeed common; it's just not good for anything. Einstein had a very uncommon sense. Now that is worth something.

That would be too obvious. I'd rather have something like the orbital bombardment fans have eagerly waited for. Anyway, only the most deluded Trekkies think hyperdrive in olny 1.5c, or ST ships are immune to lasers, and although DarkStar doesn't say stuff like that, he brings up claims that are quite absurd (Such as a claim that the DS can olny generate 23.5 gigatons in one day, and that is enough to destroy a planet), and makes it even worse by never changing his views (If all rabid Trekkies were like him, we'd still have people saying the Enterprise's nav. deflectors would survive the DS superlaser)
