You always know what you're getting with a Bethesda game... lol.

Re: Fallout 3 or Farcry II
Steam dislikes my credit card all of a sudden .
I'll be getting Fallout 3 (by hook or by crook), since I'm a massive Fallout 1+2 fanatic, and the original Farcry bored the heck out of me. (although Crysis and even more so Warhead were fun), so i'm rather biased in agreeing with your purchase/recommendation of Fallout.

I guess you're too stupid to know Far Cry 2 has absolutely nothing to do with Far Cry, I guess? If you're going by brand loyalty (ie, 'Fallout is good') why not run with it (ie, 'Bethesda are hopeless developers')?

Re: Fallout 3 or Farcry II
Oblivion didn't actually offend me aside from being filled with miles and miles of nothing of interest whatsoever. But I find that I usually take games at face value - as long as there aren't any bugs that actually stops me from playing (ie. crashing the game), I'll continue to slog forward in the face of whatever gameplay elements stands between me and victory. But that sort of "I intend to beat everything in this motherfucker regardless of what it tries to do to me" attitude means that I can blame myself for enabling game developers to get away with making games with mediocre or even poor gameplay elements. Me and fanboys.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.
Re: Fallout 3 or Farcry II
Yeah, Oblivion really suffered from blandness, but the amount of bullshit that was fixed with mods was absurd. I'm not interested in another Bethesda 'full of bugs and the community will fix it' game with 300 fedex quests.

Re: Fallout 3 or Farcry II
One game I borrowed from a friend and didn't like has a different developer for its sequel, that I don't find interesting beyond graphics and the engine, and it's odd that I'm not up to date with who's making it? (In case it isn't clear, i'm talking about the Farcry games, jackass)Stark wrote:I guess you're too stupid to know Far Cry 2 has absolutely nothing to do with Far Cry, I guess? How will I live down the shame. And I have made my thoughts on Bethesda and the Fallout sequel quite clear in the past, brand loyalty (and lack of thereof in Bethesda's case) included .

I hate it, the lack of money is the root of all evil, and I'm dealing with no money due to sickness and car repairs. On the bright side the new roomate seems to be working out well.

Re: Fallout 3 or Farcry II
I came home with Fallout 3 in my hands today only to discover that one of my two GeForce 8800GTS(G92) is out of commission AND the first PCI-E x16 slot (out of 3) on my motherboard is also out. The other gfx card works in slots 2 and 3, however the board will only allow you to boot past POST if you have a gfx card in the first slot. After some more investigation, it looks like the root cause of all of this is the massive heatsink/fan on the CPU. The back plate that holds the thing to the motherboard seems to have been touching the board and causing short circuits.
So I have to RMA the motherboard, graphics card (both EVGA) and order a new, more reasonable heatsink. A Zalman 9700 should be quite reasonable for a Q6600.
The slight upside to this is that until I get everything fixed, I have no reason to unwrap the FO3 box. So if it turns out the game is a buggy mess after all, I can still return it within 30 days, wait a few months, and then pick it up again for a lower price than the $50 now.

Or you could have just said 'I made an ignorant and uninformed statement that was totally wrong', like people do when they make a mistake. Sorry, I imagined you might have a spine.DEATH wrote:One game I borrowed from a friend and didn't like has a different developer for its sequel, that I don't find interesting beyond graphics and the engine, and it's odd that I'm not up to date with who's making it? Re: Fallout 3 or Farcry II
I wonder (or actually fear) if they'll tone down certain parts of the game as opposed to Fallout 2. No, I don't mean the gore and violence, as it's obvious that it is a part of a wholesome education for our children, I mean that in FO2 you could become a pornstar, be forced into a shotgun marriage (and get the "Married" debuff), as well as get involved with all kinds of lowlifes (like the scientology parody).
I guess I'll find out soon enough (by the million cries of terror that get suddenly silenced).

Well, I guess I'll find out about what is good and bad in Fallout 3 for myself in a bit.
I forgot that it was coming out on my birthday.

Been playing FO3 for the past few hours. Just got into Megaton and talked to a few people there. Big thumbs up so far.

Same here, color me pleasantly surprised. The only things I've found annoying so far are mostly little aesthetic bits (why bother with the fucking hyper detailed face creation system if I can't rotate the camera around to see my character's face?) and weird minor bugs/weird graphics engine quirks. For example switching on my Pipboy radio yields music which skips and stutters until either the song is half over, and for some reason, those pointlessly physics enabled objects (like bottles that go flying off a fucking table when you brush up against it ) seem to use a lot more processing power than you'd think they would since anytime I'm in the Megaton tavern or Vault 101 (where there are an assload of the things) my frame rate slows down rather noticeably whereas looking out over the sprawling expanse of the wastes or the crazy detailed patchwork architecture in Megaton is just shiny.Arthur_Tuxedo wrote:Been playing FO3 for the past few hours.
