Nothing that destroys an army in a single shot, or a city.
That's the thing with magic and why I said from the start that we have to ensure things don't go out of hand.

And yes you can make the werewolves whatever value you want. Like by a quirk Baerne's dragon knights are cheaper by the hundred than my serpent riders, which is a lil odd but there ya go.
Really? I'll just go and fix that...

I'd say magic does about 1-1.5 times as much damage as the points you spend, dependent upon situation (calling a flood after luring an enemy into a floodplain will do more than fireballs while its raining).
The advantage being that they don't get to use any non-magic to fight back. They might be able to burn out magical troops dissipating bits of the spell with counter-magic, but generally you get to hit them with no chance for them to fight back. The other big advantage is going to be that you can do strange exotic things like teleporting a few hundred troops into a fort, walking on water, or buffing your troops, or maybe just raising some skeletons that can fight out a siege for you.
The disadvantage is that it is one shot and done. Summoned units might be able to fight for a while, but after a day or so they are going to fade, whereas 5000 points of troops might be able to eat though 6 or 7 small 1000ish point armies if they get some down time between battles.
The whole idea is that the balance between magic and tech is maintained. Physical troops are useful for some things, magic is useful for others. If you need to win a battle, magic is awesome, if you want to win a campaign troops are where it is at.

I think that's an overcomplication, I mean we pay points for the mages, shouldn't magic basically be an abstraction, as in witches are worth 300 points because they automatically use magic in combat.
Well, mages use magic as their attack/defense for their points value. They also get other mild bonuses just like any other unit that has a high point per dude would (cavalry are extra fast, siege weapons can hurt town/buildings, giant moles could burrow, etc.). Then you have epic magic which is the giant spells you cast from your pool.
Mages magic is not very magical outside special circumstances, Epic magic is fucking huge. Like teleport armies, raise legion of undead, make a heterosexual version of sweatin' to the oldies style huge. It is also super limited use and is just for that one time bang you need to get through a big battle or defend a very important territory. You can't run a campaign on magic unless you have mass amounts (Baerne might as he has huge magic reserves) or can use it very carefully (Setzer looks to be going this route).

Also, sorry I am quite in the politics thread after suggesting it. I am having a minor bit of writers block. I just can't get the start of the post right. It's very frustrating.

Could I play? once I have a history and OoB, obviously. I was considering setting up shop in eastern Spain with a nation part Christian reconquistadores and part elvish immigrants from northern Europe. I'm not sure what I'll say has happened to Granada, I could try to integrate bits of it as well... Anyway, I'm sure my warriors will provide some challenges for those casting imperialist eyes toward the peninsula.
O, I've read some of the OoB thread and it seems everyone is starting with 3 fortresses or less, is there a rule about the number of fortresses we can begin with or something?

Superman: Take over the world... Or rob banks, I'm not sure.
I'd kind of like to put down an ultimatum for basic OoB creation. You don't need it to be perfect, but playable. I don't really expect any large conflicts turns 1 or 2 but could we try to schedule that we can start by next weekend. We need to get going soon or no one is going to keep with it.
Late entries will be fine, we'll just balance them on the fly.

Could someone who is familiar with the rules post it in the Kingdoms thread or something? It's hard enough to look back and forth for the rules.
I'm cool with starting off, since the first thing that would come would be occupying the surrounding lands.

Yeah, we really need to get this thing started. Otherwise it will die, people will lose interest if we wait much longer.
Anyway I plan on expanding North(*winks at Paul*) and East(I have a God Emperor to fight. ).
Soon rivers of blood will flow.
Shall we hold off the gladiatorial combat for a year? After all, it's nice to have huge armies on both sides and both of us engage in combat till it's a bloody stalemate.

A year works for me. I have a lot of Barbarians to slaughter(turn into loyal followers) in the meantime.
It shall be a glorious battle.
I might have to make a Shroomanian B movie about it.
Does anyone object to starting the actual game now? If not, should we have a new thread for it, or just use the politics one?

I don't object to starting the game. Considering the slower pace of a medieval-ish setting, it shouldn't be too hard for people to catch up. There's hardly going to be any blitzkrieging done, after all.
If we want to make things more interesting, we could have a NPC power in the east, for the pacific rim is now the stomping ground of a new powerful steam punk-esque nation, a mighty expansionist power devoted to their God-Emperor's will. An land which commands a massive navy of massive steam powered iron hulled warships while on land Armies of fanatical Musketeer Ashigaru led by Katana wielding Samurai warriors fight alongside Yokai, Tengu and Oni. Fear Europeans, for the world now faces the wrath of the Empire of the Rising Sun!
