Accessing folders marked private on WinXP

Post by Andrew_Fireborn »

Right, so I bought a USB casing to get things off of my old computer's HDD.

Unfortunately, I'd marked the folders as private on that computer. I'm hitting a brick wall as my google-fu is apparently quite weak.

Does anyone know how to bypass it? It looked like it would work if I created a profile with the same name, but that just lets me into the now external HDD's "Documents & Settings" folder for that account and no further...

It wouldn't be an issue if I had an older shell that still worked, I could just plug the thing into it as the master and log in, but that's not an option...

You need to take ownership of the folder. This link looks like it should be helpful for you.
