Companies that update software and drivers for compatibility

Post by Dominus Atheos »

I was thinking about Hav's problem with his scanner, and was wondering: What companies have been good about issuing updates to software and drivers to provide compatibility with the newest operating systems? Microsoft is coming out with a new OS next year, and probably every 3 years after that, and Linux updates it's kernel and distributions every few months. So what would be a good brand to buy if I want to keep something for more then a two or three years?

Hewlett Packard is good at keeping their software drivers up to date, as is Samsung. I'd stay away from Brother, especially if you're investing in an all-in-one.

Apparently Xerox is OK at it since, after SEVEN tries, my drivers updated for Vista. :D

If you get a printer that talks Postscript or PCL you're pretty much assured of compatibility. Same goes for any print servers that can talk LPR.
