*REFERENCE SITES*

-GENERAL/ORIGINAL-

10,000-year Calender! Never again have some little dick point out that the 18 of January, 4326 is a Monday, not a Thuesday like you claimed in your story. Only really useful to those of us who demand a truly anally retentive attention to detail. Recommended by Starbug.

Aliens Species Wiki. An online encyclopedia with profiles for non-human species from a large number of franchises. Recommended by rogrd.

Archive.org. Perhaps best known as the Wayback Machine, the people behind these page have devoted substantial amounts of effort and money to store abandoned webpages. If one of the links in this list doesn't work, try to find it in their archives.

Digital Dutch Unit Converter. Need to know how many meters there are in a light year? This site is for you. R. judgeking.

Edgar Governo, Historian of Things That Never Were. A website linking a large number of SF timelines. However, some links don't work anymore, or are totally speculative. R. Tai Falkenburg.

Lelola.net. An old favorite before the advent of Wikis, it covered a variety of Anime series, including Digimon < Sailor Moon, as well as a few obscure ones (Anyone remember Mon Cole Knights or Flint The Time Detective?). R. Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: The old Lelola archive seems to have been quietly removed by the author from the live web, but backups still exist, thanks to the Wayback Machine.]

Mecha Anime Headquarters. A site providing details on a number of Mecha used in Gundam, as well as a number of other series. Also episode guides for the every Gundam series. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg and Samas.

No Nonsense Self-Defense. Might be more geared towards Modern Day concerns on Self Defense, but from what I've read so far... It has quite a few articles which can help with learning about how combat can really work out, instead of shonen techniques. R. Master Basher.

The English To Geordie Translator. Useful for when you need a thick, northern-English/Scottish style of speech, but don't know how to write it naturally. Would recommend editing what it gives you, as it can be hard to understand a Geordie at the best of times... Recommended by Starbug.

The Grand List of Overused Science Fiction Cliches. Like TV Tropes, only in a list format that makes it easier and quicker to read. Still funny to read. R. Tai Falkenburg.

The (Hopefully) Official Canon Thread. Hosted in these very forums and started by thtadthtshldntb. This page contains notes about the canon policies of a number of fictional universes. Recommended by Steven Kodaly.

TV Tropes. An encyclopedia of narrative cliches. Very funny and very useful to avoid certain traps. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

Fantasy Name Generators. Exactly what it says. Also provides randomized names for characters of different geographical backgrounds, locations, pieces of enchanted gear and so on. Recommended by Luke Danger.

ColorQ World. Authors who dare to touch the ever touchy subject of different racial perspectives might find some things of interest in this page. Recommended by Manthor.

-Comics-

Comicvine. A portal about all things comics that contains, among other sections, an extensive encyclopedia about comic related matters. It covers fringe characters and titles not covered by any other online resource, but its articles can sometimes be less than perfectly comprehensive. Recommended by Manthor.

KMC Forums and Comic Book Resources. Forums with a focus in comics and comic related matters. KMC hosts a large number of respect threads that in some cases allow would be writers to see characters they might want to use at their craziest. Recommended by Manthor.

-Literature & History-

Alternate History. A board which claims to be the largest gathering of alternate history fans in the web, a claim that is probably true. Contains a lot of alternate history timelines, generic discussion and resources. Also, it has a fairly useful associated wiki, in case anyone finds the size of the board daunting.

Ancient History Sourcebook / Medieval Sourcebook / Modern History Sourcebook. Contains a lot of original texts from the time periods and later works concerning the same timeframes, ranging from the private letters of Admiral Nelson to the Communist Manifesto or Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. R. Average Bob.

Baka Tsuki. A community devoted to translating from Japanese light novels associated with certain manga/anime franchises (such as Fate/Zero, Slayers, Familiar of Zero...).

Corpus Scriptorum Latinorum. Is a link list that aims to act as the reference index for all literature written in latin that can be found online. R. Average Bob.

Internet Sacred Text Library. Contains tons of sacred texts and articles about them from different world religions, past and present, so it also includes lots of stuff about the Norse sagas and such. R. Average Bob.

ORBIS. I would like to recommend ORBIS, a very detailed mapping program by two Stanford professors about travel times and costs in Ancient Rome, allowing various options like prioritizing costs and speed, methods of transportation available, and so on and so forth. Very useful for people who are writing fiction in this time period, or calculating rough travel times for fantasy fiction set in a similar age. ^_^ R. Kei.

Perseus Digital Library. Contains classic (Greek/Roman) literature both in the original languages and translated to English. R. Average Bob.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Whole text of the classical Chinese historic novel, translated to English. R. Average Bob.

Roman History. By Publius Cornelius Tacitus. Exactly what it sounds like. R. Average Bob.

Association For Renaissance Martial Arts. Heard about this site from some arcane Berserk crossover fic, but if you're wanting a reference for Medieval Warfare, then it's probably a good place to start. R. Master Basher.

The Internet Classics Archive. Contains ancient literature (mostly Greek/Roman, but with some Chinese and Persian authors too) translated to English. R. Average Bob.

The Online Medieval & Classical Library. More of the same, but redundancy never hurt anyone. R. Average Bob.

Bhagavad Gita. Part of the Mahabharata Hindu epic cycle, translated into English. Recommended by A Little World.

-Science & Technology-

Airfighters.com. Photography of military aircraft. Also contains some articles about specific types of airplane. R. judgeking.

Arrow Digital Archives. A site with information about the Avro Arrow, an advanced jet fighter designed and then dismantled by Canada in the fifties. R. judgeking.

Atomic Rockets. Excellent page, full of extremely valuable information for those who dare to use hard sci-fi in their writing. Atomic Rocket Equations is a site that takes the equations presented in Atomic Rockets and offers them as an easy to use calculator tool. Recommended by Warringer and Tai Falkenburg.

Future Timeline. A speculative future history of humanity. Recommended by Manthor.

Internet Movie Firearms Database. Want to know what gun Spike Spiegel carries? (it's a Jericho 941, FYI). Then this is the place for you. Recommended by Starbug.

Jeff Russell's STARSHIP DIMENSIONS. A page with a large collection of starship models done at different scales, very useful when you want to make comparisons between different universes. [NOTE: As of 11-05-12, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page.] [NOTE 2: As of 24-06-13, site is back online.]

Kinetic Energy Calculator. I recommend the Kinetic Energy Calculator, an invaluable resource when trying to find out just how much damage a ballistic round of a given mass and speed would do. Recommended by Full-Paragon.

Modern Firearms & Ammunition. An extremely detailed online encyclopedia dedicated to listing and describing seemingly every military and police gun since 1900, civilian guns are also listed. The site is run by a Russian named Maxim Popenker, who has written several books about firearms, and is a fantastic resource for anyone that wants to use guns in their writing. Recommended by Cody Fett.

Nate Meier's Jet-Engine.Net. A page with a database containing the technical specifications of a vast number of jet engine models. R. judgeking.

Science Fiction\Space Technology:Tools for Learning. A basic education site that deals with providing beginners an idea of spacecraft systems. R. Tai Falkenburg.

ScienceWorld. Claims to be the best resource for math and science in the Internet. Potentially useful for authors who want to make sure that the numbers they throw around in their stories are correct. Recommended by Manthor.

Sci-Fi Airshow. A page that shows artwork of a number of old school aircraft/spacecraft (such as Space: 1999's Eagle) as if they were restored museum pieces.

Scifi Meshes. Perhaps another for beautiful artwork and some good fan made ships. Recommended by rogdr.

Starship Schematics Database. A website of canon and fanmade starship schematics for Star Trek, B5, Battlestar Galactica and Space Cruiser Yamato. For those who love making fanmade schematics. R. Tai Falkenburg.

Technovelgy.com. A glossary of many science fiction inventions. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

Wolf's Shipyard. A page that is somewhat similar to Jeff Russell's site, but also includes a large proportion of fan-designed ships for different universes that go from the downright silly to the awesome. Recommended by kingdragon. [NOTE: As of 24-06-13, site has moved to a new address.]

Global Security. A page that offers overviews about various military related topics across the world. Recommended by Manthor.

FARP - Fantasy Art Resource Project. A section of the Elfwood site containing many materials and tutorials designed to help budding creators. Of particular interest is the section devoted to writing. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

On Writing Erotica by Morgan Hawke. The advice there is surprisingly universal despite its specific dedication to the gothic/romance/erotica genres. It also has a very useful article on writing characters of a gender other than your own without making male characters sound effeminate or female characters seem butch. Reader caution STRONGLY advised. Recommended by Akraa. [NOTE: As of 04-07-11, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page.] [NOTE 2: As of 11-05-12, the page is back online.]

Planet Designer. In case you really want to be detailed, give this planet design simulator a try. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 16-6-09, this link no longer works, although this utility seems to offer the same kind of information.] [NOTE 2: As of 22-09-10, the page is back online.]

SFWA's Tips on Writing. Tips of the writing trade. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

The Mythopoet's Manual. Notes and observations about fantasy worldbuilding, although much of what is commented in this page could also be applied to sci-fi settings. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 30-08-15, the site that hosted this resource appears gone. However, there are for the time being online copies still available and the Wayback Machine has a seemingly comprehensive backup available, plus a Dropbox download link, courtesy of Fellow Sufferer.]

The Tough Guide to the Known Galaxy. A tongue-in-cheek dictionary of certain tropes in scifi. R. Tai Falkenburg.

World Builder Projects. A list of sites that may be helpful in developing worlds. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 31-08-15, the site is gone, but the Wayback Machine saves the day, as usual.]

The information in this page can bring a great deal of military common sense into your works, so if you are trying to portray a semi-competent military and have doubts, check this out. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 22-09-10, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page.] [NOTE 2: As of 11-05-12, site is back online.]

Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy. Another website on sf/f writing, was recommended by SciFi Weekly. A quick, easy to read course on writing scifi. R. Tai Falkenburg.

10 Tips To Improve Your Fiction Writing Skills. Self-explanatory. Recommended by Manthor.

5' Tools That Can Increase Your Writing Skills. A listing of some fifty articles that deal with different topics that can be used to improve writing quality. Recommended by Manthor.

BBC - Skillswise - English. "Practical literacy skills for adults". Looks a tad basic, but there is probably some use to be hand in referencing this. Recommended by Manthor.

English The Easy Way - Writing Tips. Though apparently aimed at non native speakers, some of the content here seems potentially useful. Recommended by Manthor.

Writing Craft & Technique. General writing advice. Recommended by Manthor.

Fiction Factor. Articles about honing one's writing skills. Recommended by Manthor.

How To Grow Your Fiction Writing Skills. Article with content that is perfectly described by its title. Recommended by Manthor.

Writing Skills - Getting Your Written Message Across Clearly. Article that offers some tips for improving clarity in writing. Recommended by Manthor.

Writing Fight Scenes - What An Editor Wants To See. Exactly what it sounds like. Fairly insightful nevertheless. Recommended by tortiecat.

Some Writing Advice That's Mostly Useless (And Why). Thoughts of an author about why some of the most commons forms of advice for novice and would be writers are not always useful or relevant. Recommended by tortiecat.

Hemingway Editor. Basically an automated beta reader to help you with phrasing things and making it more direct/bold. Don't use it if your style is intentionally meandering, but otherwise, it helps you see and visualize what parts make up your writing and where you can change things to be more direct and efficient. Recommended by Felix3D.

Writing & Worldbuilding - General Storytelling & Other Tips. Is about "writing tips, roleplaying and more". It has some interesting hindsight into creating characters, genres, and unoriginal plots to avoid. I notably liked the article regarding romance and healthy/unhealthy relationships. The one about creating a proper creeper (horror monster) for a story was spot-on too. Probably not the most advanced writing guide around, but an interesting one nonetheless that should be useful for new writers and those seeking to refresh their memories. Also uses examples. Recommended by ArnaudB.

Writing Meta. synecdochic's Writing Meta Table of Contents is a good general reference for the structure, mechanics, characterization, managing reader expectations, writing, editing, and providing helpful links to other sorts of related essays. I've carried the bookmark for it across two laptops, and it's always the first one on that list. In particular, her article about the beta reading process has heavily influenced how I beta for other writers. Recommended by Lavanya Six.

How I Write and Nine Stages to a Novel. Some articles about writing by author Garth Nix, apparently no longer available in the live web. Recommended by Manthor.

ALIEN VS PREDATOR

The Anchorpoint Essays. Pretty interesting speculation about the biology and social habits of the Xenomorph written from an in-universe perspective. [NOTE: As of 30-08-15, the website has been shut down by its creator. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page.]

Predator: The Hunted. A pretty decent fansite that appears to contain most of the known information about the Predators and their civilization. The parts that are speculation based in known information are pointed to be such. [NOTE: As of 11-05-12, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page.]

Alien Experience. A fan community that contains some amount of interesting information about the AvP franchise, as well as a decent sized forum.

ANDROMEDA

All Systems University Library. The best webpage that offers information about the Andromedaverse in the net.

AndroWiki. It is a very small wiki (~200 articles after two years of existence), but contains just about enough information to justify the removal of some claims about Allsystems.org being the "one and only" Andromeda resource in the net. [NOTE: As of 16-6-09, the website is still there, but seems to be having some trouble and won't let me access the Wiki entries.]

ASTERIX

Asterix NZ. Great New Zealand based website that is quite simply the best source of information for Asterix related issues in English you can find in Internet. [NOTE: As of 04-07-11, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page.]

AVATAR

James Cameron's Avatar Wiki. The wiki about the tall, blue cat aliens. If you are looking for mystic elemental kung-fu fighting, that's in the next section. Recommended by Manthor.

AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER

Avatar Spirit.net. In case the encyclopedic tone of the Avatar wikia doesn't suit your needs, try this fansite. Contains screenshots and transcripts from the episodes, several useful guides and articles exploring different aspects of the world of the Avatar world, such as its freaky fauna.

Avatar Wiki. Although this wiki is not particularly difficult to find, it is still worth the mention, as the removal of most of the Avatar related articles from Wikipedia proper has resulted in this becoming the best Avatar resource in the net.

-B-

BABYLON 5

The Lurker's Guide To Babylon 5. An excellent introductory page for those who haven't had the opportunity to see the series. There is also some interesting in-depth analysis of individual episodes.

B5 Spoiler Junkies Archive. Has an excellent collection of synopses that are almost transcripts of each episode of the series and movies. [NOTE: As of 22-09-10, site seems to be gone entirely and there seems to be no stored copy in archive.org. I hope that I'm wrong, but I think that this one might be lost for good.] [NOTE 2: As of 24-06-13, although navigation is extremely complicated, some of the lost content can be accessed through Wayback Machine backups of two of the previous addresses here and here.]

Voltayre's Encyclopedia Xenobiologica. Once again, a great reference page, although this one offers a much more indepth analysis of alien races and technologies in the Babverse.

The Babylon Project. The B5 wiki. Useful mostly for those who want to find out a detail ASAP and don't want to navigate through the long articles of the other pages.

Babtech On The Net. SD.net-style analysis of the technology, firepower and such of B5 starships. Rather versus minded, but useful for those who want to get an idea of the overall firepower avalaible to the younger races. [NOTE: As of 04-07-11, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page.]

B5Tech. Another tech-minded webpage, particularly interesting for the excellent computer models of the B5 warships of all races. Extremely cool-looking page and decent articles, too.

Babylon 5 Timeline. The timeline of the Babylon5 series, with discussion on astronomy, planets and prophecies However, I have no idea when it was last updated. R. Tai Falkenburg.

Battlestar Galactica Tech Manual. A neat page that does a fairly interesting analysis of the technology seen in the OBSG.

BATTLETECH

Patrick's Battletech Archive. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 22-09-10, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has what seems to be a complete saved copy of the page, including most of the graphics.]

Classic Battletech. Probably the first Battletech websites I found that had alot of the setting readily available for a first timer. However, the focus is on the classic battletech. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

BattleTech Wiki. A large Battletech wiki (6,000+ articles), although much of the material appears to be customized models of mechs (although these are clearly identified as such). Recommended by kingdragon.

BELGARIAD/MALLOREON

A Timeline For The Belgariad/Malloreon. Self-explanatory name. A nice, complete timeline for the events in both pentalogies. Site also includes a glossary of characters.

BLEACH

Bleach Wiki. A pretty complete wiki, but it has an annoying trend to describe the characters in bombastic and not-particularly-informative ways. Recommended by Manthor.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

Stakes and Salvation. An extremely detailed encyclopedia of the Buffyverse (only television series, not the season 8 comics) that can be downloaded in a PDF file. [NOTE: As of 16-6-09, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page, including the downloadable encyclopedia.]

Buffyverse Wiki. I suppose that the name is pretty self-explanatory. This one is not quite as insanely detailed as the encyclopedia above, but it does include the canon comics and seems to be one of the best online resources for Buffy lore.

-C-

CODE GEASS

Code Geass Wiki. Modest sized Wiki devoted to the anime series Code Geass and its related spin-offs. Recommended by judgeking.

CODOMINIUM

CoDominium Timeline. Includes and extensive time line with historical notes. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

COMMAND & CONQUER

EVA Central. Command and Conquer Wikia, done as an in-universe POV. Take note, its really three wikias in one, each covering seperately the Tiberium, Red Alert, and Generals timelines seperately. The Tiberium universe is the most comprehenisve, while work is beining done on the Red Alert one. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

The Command and Conquer Encyclopedia. Includes the Cannon of CNC, which was probably the source used before CNC3 came out. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

Renegade Community.
A fan-recreation of Westwood's Renegade site. Its backstory section provides info on the Renegade game. R. Tai Falkenburg.

Command and Conquer Movies. From the offical website, an archive of all the CNC FMV cutscenes up to Red Alert 2. R. Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 24-06-13, the official site seems to have been redesigned and the aforementioned movie archive seems to be MIA.]

CREST/BANNER OF THE STARS

The Abh Nation/Seikai no Monshou. Both sites provide information into the culture, technology, politics and history of the series. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

CTHULHU MYTHOS

Cthulhu Lexicon. Basically a listing of characters and beings of the Mythos. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: Site seems gone. Wayback Machine backup available.]

Russell's Guide To Interdimensional Entities. Depiction, profiles and size comparisons for the various horrid critters featured in the works of Lovecraft and other authors of the broader Cthulhu Mythos.

-D-

DARIA

Outpost Daria. More than just a fanfiction repository, this page was also a comprehensive source of information for this famous cartoon series. Though it has recently gone offline, the Wayback Machine seems to have an unusually complete backup.

DC

-Green Lantern

Green Lantern Corps Web Page. Contains quite a bit of information about the different members of the Green Lantern Corps, their enemies and other aspects of the Green Lantern comics.

-Superman

The Big Apricot. A fansite that explores the Superman movieverse with emphasis in the city of Metropolis. Contains indepth analysis, but also some original creations of the authors. The site also hosts a small archive for fanfiction set in the Superman Movieverse.

-Teen Titans

Titans Tower. This fansite is supposed to be the ultimate guide to all things concerning this superhero team.

DEAD SPACE

The Dead Space Wiki. The thing is, there's already a Dead Space wiki with quite a good amount of info in there and with new material coming in, this wiki would undoubtedly expand. Recommended by volrath77.

DIGIMON

The Digimon Encyclopedia. Probably the best source on the Anime canon out there on the net, with full entires for seasons 1-3, as well as neat trivia and episode guides. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

Digimon Wiki Second best site, covers all seasons. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

Crest of Hope. Another site that provides easier to access information regarding the series. R. Tai Falkenburg.

DISCWORLD

L-Space. Discworld & Terry Pratchett Wiki. Recommended by Starbug.

DOCTOR WHO

TARDIS Index File. The Doctor Who wiki. Although I'm not familiar with either this series or its spin-off Torchwood, the articles seem to be of above average quality and with over eight thousand entries, it is already a fairly large encyclopedia.

Doctor Who Chronology. Condensed timeline of the Dr. Who series. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

THE UNIVERSAL DATABANK. Not so universal, as the site hasn't been updated for years. Still, it does provide a neat glossary that describes people, places, events and even governments seen in the series before the 8th doctor. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

The Doctor Who Reference Guide. Includes probably every single Dr. Who work (canon and non-canon) with an enormous ammount of detail in the guides. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

DUNE

Dune Wikia Wiki. A smallish Dune Wiki that contains information from the godawful KJA prequels/sequels and that seems to be growing quite slowly. R. Tai Falkenburg.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

D&D Wiki. The focus of this wiki doesn't appear to be indexing characters and locations from official D&D settings, but rather the compilation of free to use materials released by WotC and user generated content that expands upon official mechanics. Nevertheless, it might be helpful to some. Recommended by Manthor.

The Hypertext d20 SRD. The page mostly contains the mechanics for the game system used in the various D&D settings, but also contains some amount of fluff information about magical creatures, magic spells and the like that might prove useful to some authors.

-E-

EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT

The Official Site. Makes for a decent starting point for Taelon/Jaridian information and has a good episode guide. Don't bother with the external links, because all the old companion pages (taelons.com, jaridians.com, augury.com...) are well and truly dead at this point. [NOTE: As of 16-6-09, the official site is gone. Wayback machine copy can be found here.]

The Taelon Synod. Not a bad fansite. Contains character profiles, a decent episode guide and a good collection of screencaps.

EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS (Tarzan, John Carter)

ERBzine: Edgar Rice Burroughs Web Museum. An "official" tribute site that has been on continued operation since 1996 with weekly updates. Difficult to navigate, but full of interesting information.

Resolute II. Another site for the early 90's scifi cartoon, with a wide range of info. R. Tai Falkenburg.

-F-

FARSCAPE

Official site. Has a decent character guide and a brief episode guide, but not much else. Can make for a decent introduction to the universe for those who are reading Farscape fanfics and don't know what the characters look like.

Farscape Encyclopedia Project. A not very big Farscape Wiki encyclopedia (slightly over 1000 definitions) with some rather unencyclopedic language in certain entries, but from what I've seen it seems to be the best Farscape resource out there at the moment.

Transcripts from the Terrace. This page apparently has transcripts for the complete series. The presentation hurts my eyes, but the content appears to be good. They don't have nothing about Peacekeeper Wars, unfortunately. [NOTE: As of 22-09-10, site seems to be gone and what's worse the saved versions in the Wayback Machine seem to have been retroactively erased by the hosting company.]

Farscape Transcripts. Exactly what it says on the tin. A complete trancript collection for the four seasons of Farscape and the miniseries 'The Peacekeeper Wars' put together by the people of Farcape fan-forum Terra Firma.

Farscape Fantasy. They have in their episode guides the best Farscape image galleries I've been able to find so far (at least, among the few still in working order). Worth looking through for those who aren't familiar with the series.

Snurcher's Guide. This site is little more than a big index with many links to the pages that contain the actual transcripts, images and such. For those who want to bookmark a single page.

A Taste for Blue. A shrine site about the character Zhaan. Although I usually wouldn't consider linking to one of these, the web has some articles that explore in some depth the character and her fictional religion, which might be helpful for characterization. Minors should avoid the fic section of this one like the plague. [NOTE: As of 11-05-12, website is gone. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has a stored copy of the page.]

FOUNDATION

Encyclopedia Galactica. The best (and virtually the only) reference webpage for the science fiction universe created by Isaac Asimov. Some of the contents (particularly in the Space Travel and Chimerical sections) seem to be fan-created.

Who's Who in Asimov? A guide to much of the Foundation universe, with a listing of major characters and worlds from the series. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

FUTURAMA

The Infosphere. The Futurama Wiki. Recommended by Starbug.

-G-

GARGOYLES

GargWiki. A good, up-to-date Wiki that contains all known canon information about the Gargoyles universe.

Ask Greg Archives. This page contains literally thousands of questions that Gargoyles fans have asked the creator of the series for the last ten or so years. If you have some obscure doubt about Gargoyles, check here because there are good odds that it has already been answered. If you are out of luck, Mr. Weisman will eventually answer you, but it might take a couple of years...

The Gargoyles Fan Website. Contains an interesting primer to the Gargverse, an episode guide and some interesting essays.

GHOSTBUSTERS[/B]

[url=http://www.gbfans.com/]Ghostbusters Fans
. Claims to be the largest Ghostbusters fan community and this might very well be true. In any case, it provides plenty of info about the whole franchise and has a large forum (with a tiny fanfiction section).

GI-JOE

Yo Joe! Although it is primarily a site for collectors of Gi-Joe stuff, Yo Joe! also contains quite a bit of interesting information about the classic GIJOE universe, including an archive of GIJOE comics with extensive plot summaries and another for the filecards that came with the toys.

GOLDEN SUN

Golden Sun Universe. A Wikia to the RPG universe, with a wide range of articles of the game, with in-depth articles. R. Tai Falkenburg.

Golden Sun Realm. Useful quick reference. R. Tai Falkenburg.

GUNDAM

Gundam Wiki. Recommended by drakensis.

Gundam Official. The official website for the English releases of the Gundam series (ie. Gundam, Gundam Zeta, Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed). Based off the old Gundam Project by Mark Simmons, provides a number off glossaries and maps. Also character lists, but not very detailed. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 24-06-13, site is gone. However, the Wayback Machine contains a comprehensive backup.]

Gundam SEED Net. A fansite with a large amount of screenshots. Mentions all the series, but depth is lacking. R. Tai Falkenburg.

Gundam: High Frontier. A website that deals with the real world science of the First Gundam series. No, not the mobile suits, but rather on the space colonies that remain a trademark of the series. R. Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 24-06-13, the site is using a new address as a result of a format change in the page.]

The Gundam Project. Wayback Machine archive copy of a page that once upon a time was the most comprehensive Gundam information resource in the Internet. Recommended by Hyakushiki.

Ultimate Mark: Gundam Unofficial. A Gundam Project lite maintained by the creator of the original page. Includes translated information that is reportedly hard to find outside of the Japanese websphere. Recommended by Hyakushiki.

-H-

HALO

Halopedia. Essentially, the Halo Wookieepedia, an indepth and well sourced encyclopedia that is very probably the best guide for this universe that you will ever find in Internet.

Halostory Page. A pretty neat site that contains a bunch of stuff about the characters and the games, including complete transcripts for Halo 1 & 2.

HARRY POTTER

In the Harry Potter Lexicon, you will find everything you ever wanted to know about the wizards of Hogwarts and probably a great many things that you didn't particularly want to know.

HYPERION CANTOS

Hyperion Kronológia. A timeline of the Hyperion universe, from the birth of the TechnoCore in Earth to the end of the post-Endymion short story "Orphans of the Helix". [NOTE: Page has gone offline as of 22-09-2010, but the Wayback Machine has a full copy of the timeline.]

The Hyperion Cantos. A small fansite that doesn't offer much information about the Hyperion universe itself, but gives interesting insights about the background information and real life influences present in Simmons' work.

L'Infosphère. A small French fansite with a Lexicon and some profiles about the characters. Still, it might be of some interest for French-speaking writers who would rather read the info in their mother language. [NOTE: Site offline as of 24-06-13, Wayback Machine has a backup in the unlikely case someone is interested.]

Scificincinnati Hyperion Page. Contains an extensive review/plot synopsis of Hyperion, Fall of Hyperion and Endymion. Useful for the possible newcomers to this fandom.

The Hyperionverse Technology Thread. What the name suggests. A thread in the Stardestroyer forums created in 2003 and that contains a virtually complete description of the technological aspects presented in the novel tetralogy. Very nice piece of work.

HOMEWORLD

Homeworld Shipyards. Contains much of the background information about the Homeworld universe and a complete image collection of the different ships used in the games. A must for those who want to write about the sons of Hiigara.

Encyclopedia Hiigara. The Homeworld wiki. Not quite as high quality as those that have been already mentioned for other fandoms and a bit in the small side for an encyclopedia, but still worth the mention.

-I-

INFINITE STRATOS

Infinite Stratos Wiki. A small wikia for this anime/manga/light novel series. R. judgeking.

-J-

JURASSIC PARK

Jurassic Park Legacy. A fansite about the series that seems to contain some interesting information about both the novel and movie continuities. It also contains a (minuscule) amount of fanfiction.

-K-

KINGDOM HEARTS

Kingdom Hearts Wiki. With thousands of articles, a large and apparently active wiki. Recommended by The Aeon Offspring.

KNOWN SPACE

Known Space Timeline. Basically the timeline of Known space, updated since Fleet of Worlds. R. Tai Falkenburg.

Encyclopedia of Known Space. A glossary of terms used in the Known Space series. However, it was only updated up to 2005. R. Tai Falkenburg.

-L-

LEGACY OF KAIN

Dark Chronicle. The LoK fandom is one of those not so rare cases that has a single wiki page that sucks more than a black hole. Fortunately, Dark Chronicle offers the "Encyclopedia Nosgothica", the most extensive and comprehensive storehouse of information about these games anywhere.

Nosgothic Realm. It has the game scripts of all the games in the saga and the few items of information that cannot be easily found in Dark Chronicle or Wikipedia.

LOKFanatic Plot Guide at Gamefaqs. Spoiler-heavy plot analysis of the entire saga in a single file. Very useful for those who might want to explore the devastated realms of Nosgoth in their fics.

LORD OF THE RINGS

One Wiki To Rule Them All. The LOTR fandom wiki is not quite complete yet, but it is still a decent resource.

Encyclopedia of Arda. Another of many encyclopedias that deal with the Tolkien legendarium, but one that is a personal favourite of mine.

Ardalambion. The definitive guide to Tolkien's imagined languages, with extensive essays and even courses to learn Elvish, supposing that anybody is willing to devote that much effort to it.

Essays of Michael Martinez. Sizeable and thought-provoking collection of essays by an author that seems to get a thrill out of pointing the gaps in our knowledge about Middle Earth. [NOTE: Since Merp.com has been a source of endless annoyance for the last year or so, try this archived version in the Wayback Machine if the original link fails you.]

MACROSS

The Macross Compendium. A new incarnation in wiki format of a much older site, which claims to be the definite English language resource for this series.

MARVEL

Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe. A site extremely detailed bios, power descriptions and lists of appeareances for the more obscure denizens of the Marvel Universe. Spiderman you won't find in here, but if for some reason you need to know about the Aquarian or Sargon the Sorcerer this is where you want to look.

Leader's Lair. A fansite containing an extensive, but not exhaustive number of issue summaries, along with a number of character biographies and list of appeareances for some of the best known characters of the Marvel 616 universe. Several years out of date, but still worth checking for information about classic Marvel stories, particularly those concerning the Incredible Hulk. [NOTE: Site seems to have disappeared in 2014, but over the years the Wayback Machine has built a fairly extensive backup.]

Marvel Chronology Project. A site that aims to list every appeareance of every Marvel character ever in chronological order. Useful if you are researching somebody in particular for a story.

Marvel Comics Database. The unofficial Marvel wiki. Reasonably extensive, though by no means complete.

Marvel Universe. The official Marvel wiki. Contains some information missing from the other wiki and the article format is better for reading.

-Hulk

The Incredible Hulk Online. A fansite with a good amount of information about Bruce Banner's famous alter ego, his friends and enemies. [NOTE: As of 11-05-12, the page has been transformed into a blog about Hulk-related news and merchandise, but the old site has been preserved and the Wayback Machine has a backup of the page in its old format with all the useful info.]

-Spiderman

SpiderFan. A fansite that contains detailed summaries/reviews of about a zillion comic issues where Spiderman appears and an extensive collection of biographies of secondary characters/allies/enemies. Useful.

-X Men

UncannyXMen.Net. Another excellent fansite, containing lots of issue synopses, character biographies and indepth articles about many concepts that might be of interest for authors writing about these superheroes.

MASS EFFECT

Mass Effect Wiki. Recommended by bullethead.

MASTER OF ORION

History of the Galaxy. Long document from the official site about the history of the conflict between the Orion races and the Antarans, prior to the events of MoO III.

METAL GEAR

Sons of Big Boss. A site on Metal Gear series with timelines, a number of articles, character profiles (not too detailed), weapons and vechiles. Moved from its old site, so few of the links are blank, but can be found on the old site. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: As of 22-09-10, this site seems to have gone offline in a permanent basis, but thankfully the Wayback Machine provides a seemingly complete archived copy of the page.]

Metal Gear Confidental.
Covers several of the games up to MGS3. The MEtal Gear Solid section has alot of detail in the character sections. Some sections are blank or missing, but the info inside is helpful. R. Tai Falkenburg. [NOTE: After being a source of viral attacks, the site has finally gone poof. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine delivers a copy once more.]

Metal Gear Wiki. Basically the Wikia of the Metal Gear games. R. Tai Falkenburg.

METROID

Wikitroid. The Metroid wiki. Recommended by judgeking.

MONSTER RANCHER

Pojo's Monster Rancher Site. After Lelola, the only other site the covers this cult favorite. Covers mostly the games, but has an episode guide and section on characters. R. Tai Falkenburg.

-N-

NANOHA

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Wiki. Self-explanatory. Recommended by judgeking.

NARUTO

Leaf Ninja. Major Naruto information page. Good quality and apparently very thorough. Recommended by nick012000.

Narutopedia. The Naruto Wiki. Quite large and reasonably comprehensive. Recommended by Manthor.

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION

EvaWiki. It seems to be an unusually thorough fanwiki. Recommended by Shockz.

The NERV Archives. Very good fansite containing plot summaries for the series, character guide and an analysis section, among other things.

-O-

ONE PIECE

The One Piece Wiki. Online encyclopedia of this popular and long running manga series. Recommended by Manthor.

ORION'S ARM

Old/New Orion's Arm Website. This webpage is the heart of the Orion's Arm project to create a collaborative sci-fi setting. Claims to be firmly anchored to hard sci-fi and contains information that could be useful to other world-builders in their own endeavours. Recommended by Manthor.

-P-

POKEMON

Bulbapedia. A large Pokemon wiki. R. judgeking.

POWER RANGERS

A Writer's Guide to the Power Rangers Universe. Database that covers pretty much everything there is to cover from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers 1 all the way to Power Rangers SPD (season 13). Highly recommended. [NOTE: As of 24-06-13, original site has been gone for a long while and link now redirects to a Wikispaces-hosted copy of the old page. If the old format is needed for whatever reason, however, the Wayback Machine has a backup.]

Power Rangers Central. Though not as exhaustive as the Writer's Guide, Power Rangers Central is still an excellent resource that covers all seasons that have been aired so far. Includes image galleries, an extensive database, character guides and episode summaries.

PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA

Puella Magi Wiki. A wiki dedicated to all things relating to Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica/Puella Magi Madoka Magica. R. judgeking.

-R-

RANMA 1/2

Ranma 1/2 FAQ. This used to be the very best Ranma reference page around, detailing everything from plot summaries to character descriptions, until the page went down. Fortunately, the friendly folks of the Wayback Machine have a very complete copy of the FAQ. [NOTE: As of 12-05-12, the Wayback Machine backup has been retroactively wiped out from existence. If someone knows where I may find the FAQ again, it'd be appreciated.]

Ranma 1/2 Perfect Edition. Nowadays the best Ranma resource around. Includes character guide and extensive plot summaries for both manga and anime, as well as a small gallery and a neat collection of links.

ROBOTECH

RoboTech Infopedia. Recommended by Starbug.

-S-

SAILOR MOON

WikiMoon. It's a pain trying to find comprehensive (or even sane) Sailor Moon sites. This is one of the few I managed to find that might be helpful. Recommended by Tai Falkenburg.

Hitoshi Doi's Sailor Moon Page. Contains a substantial amount of info that could be useful for fanfic writers, including plot summaries of every episode in the anime and a timeline of major events. This fan's webpage also contains additional subpages for other Magical Girl shows, such as Card Captor Sakura.

The Sailor Senshi Page. Contains a decent amount of information that can be used as a reasonable primer for the Sailor Moon universe.

Dies Gaudii. Weird Sailor Moon fansite with a number of articles about the etymology and mythology that frames the characters of the series. The link section leads to a number of places of interest.

SPACE: 1999

Space: 1999 Net. A collection of fan-sites, helpfully gathered in a single web-location, which cover a variety of topics about this show, from character/episode guides to game mods that mimic the architecture of Moonbase Alpha.

STAR BLAZERS

Cosmo DNA. A fansite of large proportions that contains a great deal of information about the Star Blazers/Star Battleship Yamato series in its various incarnations. It also hosts a number of fan comics, including Star Blazers Rebirth (formerly hosted at the official site).

STAR CONTROL

Ultronomicon. Covers SC I and II, filled with articles on the species and events in the game + references. R. Tai Falkenburg.

STARCRAFT

Starcraft Wiki. A good Starcraft encyclopedia that contains plenty of information about game units, storylines and the non-game elements of the franchise. Recommended by l33telboi.

STARGATE

Gateworld. A major resource, useful particularly for its Omnipedia and its complete collection of Stargate Atlantis Transcripts.

SG1 Solutions. Has a not particularly good wiki and an excellent, complete transcript collection of every single episode in all ten seasons of SG1.

Arduinna's Stargate Handbook. A very indepth and comprehensive resource for all things Stargate (both SG1 and SGA) that, unfortunately, last updated around two years ago. As a result, the SG1 information only covers the very beginning of the Ori story arc. Still worth checking for Goa'uld and early Wraith info, though.

Stargatecaps. The page name says it all, doesn't it? The largest screencap collection of SG1 and SGA in the web, for those times when you need the visual input that an encyclopedia entry cannot provide.

Stargate Wiki. A largish wiki (3,500+ articles) that draws heavily from certain non-canon elements, such as novels based in the television series and the RPG published by Alderac Entertainment. Recommended by kingdragon.

STAR TREK

Memory Alpha. The Star Trek Wikipedia and all-around one of the best fan-pages in the Internet.

Memory Beta. Contains pretty much all there is to know about the Star Trek expanded universe (licensed works that aren't part of canon, such as books and videogames). Recommended by judgeking.

Ex Astris Scientia. Another very good Trek resource with particularly interesting details about the spaceships of Trek.

Daystrom Institute. I know that this site has something of a history in the versus debating community, but from what I'm told it is still a more than decent guide to the Trek universe. Just be sure to check the color coding and remember that anything written in white font is fan speculation.

Warp Speed Calculator. Exactly what it sounds like. In case you need to know exactly how much a warp factor is equivalent to. Recommended by judgeking.

Psi Phi: Star Trek Book Database. Site has been wonky lately, there is every reason to assume that the page is not long for this world and, in any case, there have been no updates since 2008. Nevertheless, it remains a somewhat useful resource.

STAR WARS

Wookieepedia. Very probably the single best wiki about a fictional universe anywhere. No matter how obscure, rare or retarded is what you seek, Wookieepedia probably has an entry about it. Hell, it even has an entry about Star Wars wank, which is canon ;).

Galactic Empire Databank. As the name suggests, this one is about the Imperial warmachine. Not as good as Wikipedia, but definitely worth checking for info, particularly in RPG related matters.

Star Wars Databank. Again, not quite as good or as extensive as Wikipedia, but still worth mentioning. Particularly because it is 100% canon and if there's something wrong there it is because someone in Lucasfilm screwed up. [NOTE: As of 12-05-12, the SW Databank has been replaced with a largely worthless encyclopedia, but the Wayback Machine has backups of the databank so we are good for the time being.]

Star Wars Timeline Gold. The best and most complete SW timeline there is. No more, no less.

The Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia (CUSWE). Essentially, Wookieepedia's grandma and for many years the best SW resource in the Internet. Although it doesn't have photos for its entries, CUSWE deserves a mention just for being such a veteran... and it could be useful if you need a secondary reference site because Wookieepedia is down or some such thing.

Fan Fiction Resource board at Theforce.net. Very particularly check the Official New Fan Fic Index thread, that is a list of all the resources that this forum offers. [NOTE: As of 12-05-12, the Jedi Council Boards is undergoing a forum migration that has invalidated these links. The status of the previously available resources is undetermined at this point.] [NOTE 2: As of 24-06-13, the boards are active once again, but they are having some issues with old posts. In any case, links updated.]

The Star Wars Technical Commentaries and Domus Publica. Two sites with plenty of analysis and good essays about the SW universe. Of particular interest in the former is the study of Imperial and Rebel military ranks and in the latter we have some intriguing insights about Imperial society, beyond the basics that we see in the movies. [NOTE: As of 24-06-13, Domus Publica has been gone for a while. Wayback Machine has a backup for interested readers.]

SUPER ROBOT WARS

The Gate of Magus. Information in varying detail about the Original Generation characters and mecha from the Super Robot Wars games. R. Samas.

-T-

TENCHI MUYO

Tenchi Muyo! FAQ. One of the very few Tenchi Muyo reference pages in English, this FAQ explains the different 'canons' of the Tenchi multiverse and hosts a number of articles about some of the most arcane oddities in the OVA continuity.

TERMINATOR

Terminator Wiki. A wiki of apparently acceptable quality, although it seems to be a bit in the small side (less than 600 entries). R. Argosh.

TRANSFORMERS

Teletraan I. The Transformers Wiki. Recommended by Starbug.

-V-

V FOR VENDETTA

V for Vendetta Shrine. A shrine for the comic, provides a timeline, a few articles, etc. R. Tai Falkenburg.

-W-

WARCRAFT

World of Warcraft Universe Guide. Aka the WoWWiki. Recommended by Manthor.

WARHAMMER 40K/WARHAMMER FANTASY

Official Games Workshop page. The official sites hosted by Games Workshop have a lot of interesting resources, such as background information, little known factoids...

40K Wiki/HammerWiki/Lexicanum. Three wikis about the Warhammer settings. The first covers the dark, grim future, Hammerwiki is about the Fantasy setting and Lexicanum has a version for both universes.

WHEEL OF TIME

A Beginning. A decent sized wiki (1200+ articles) that has been growing steadily for two years now. Good resource for quick consults.

Seven Spokes: A Wheel Of Time Chronology. The most interesting feature of this site is, of course, its excellent chronology, but it also contains some interesting information about characters and a few maps about key points in WOTverse history.

The WOT Encylopaedia. The page that the WOT wiki wants to become when it grows up. This page is at present the best WOT resource out there, with extremely detailed summaries of every single chapter of all the books that have been published so far.

The WOT Faq. Your friendly neighbourhood primer to the WOT universe. It is now fully updated (check the sky for flying pigs).

WORM

Worm Resources Thread. Created and maintained by Ack. Can also be located at Sufficient Velocity and Questionable Questing.

-X-

X-COM

UFOpaedia. A rather acceptable Wiki that provides information about the enemies of humanity and the technology used by X-Com in the games, although much of the information focuses too heavily in the in-game statistics.

X-COM: UFO Defense. Another site for the X-Com series, covering the first two games with screenshots of the various UFOpedias. R. Tai Falkenburg.

*ARCHIVES*

-GENERAL-

Fanfiction.net. I suppose that I don't have to explain this one. It is, after all, the single largest repository of fanfiction in the Internet. Adult material cannot be posted in FF.net, according to the (often ignored) site rules.

FictionPress. A sister site of FF.net and one of the biggest (if not the biggest) place to find original fiction in Internet.

Archive Of Our Own (AO3). Mid-sized multi-fandom archive that seems associated with the Yuletide organization. Navigation is a bit awkward.

Ficwad. A smaller archive that hosts fics of all genres. Essentially, like FF.net with a buggier interface and adult content allowed.

Skyehawke. Another generalist archive, created in 2003 and which currently has 16,000 fics in total. Accepts adult content. Recommended by Sean Mulligan.

YourFanfiction. Small generalist archive that apparently was created or popularized in the wake of FF.net's last mass deletion of fics. Thus, a majority of its three or so thousand fics are works formerly hosted in FF.net and reposted here. Sadly, the administrators of the site have stated that they can no longer run the site themselves and that if no one else steps up to take charge of the matter, they'll have to close the page. Adult content is allowed, incidentally. Recommended by DTravler. [NOTE: Site went offline a while back and, as is usual for such pages, the Wayback Machine backup is deeply inadequate.]

Yuletide. Also known as The Obscure Fandom Fic Exchange. An archive that contains several thousand fics (generally short stories) written for a large number of fandoms, ranging from futuristic cartoons to religious literature.

AdultFanfiction.net. Like FF.net, but for adult content. Described sometimes as the Uberpit of Voles. And with good reason, since no matter how weird your fetishes, there is something in this archive guaranteed to creep you out. Reader caution required. Recommended by Manthor.

Crossover Fanfiction Archive. A small archive formerly hosting around four hundred crossover fics, which disappeared sometime in early 2010. Though parts of the site are stored in the Wayback Machine, only a few of the stories seem to have been saved this way. Nevertheless, listed here for the sake of completeness. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Anime (general)-

Mediaminer.org. A pretty large archive that mostly hosts fanfictions based in anime/manga universes. Adult content allowed.

Shoujo-Ai Archive. An archive solely focused in anime/manga fics that explore lesbian pairings and relationships. This site contains stories that range from the purely romantical to the downright pornographic. Reader caution advised. [NOTE: The archive is gone, but for the time being a 2014 mirror has been generously set up by SV denizen grawity.]

The Fanfiction Forum. A board that used to be the hangout for a number of rather prominent fanfic writers for a number of anime fandoms. However, the board's administrator vanished a while back and registration has been closed for just as long, so if you want to check the fics that were only posted in there you'd better head for TFF Archive instead. [NOTE: Following the relocation of the TFF community to a copy of the old boards, the old address has been largely abandoned and TFF Archive has been shut down by its creator as redundant at this point.]

The Fanfiction Mailing List. An old, old, old mailing list that did much to popularize anime fanfiction in the nineties, having been the hangout for many well known authors and the place in which many classic fanfics from Ranma and other fandoms were first posted. If you have any doubts, check the FAQ or visit the Archives. Recommended by Mindpron.

The Lost Library of Florestica. Anime fanfiction archive, last updated in 2007. It is home to a fine number of classic fics and its contents are generally regarded as being above average. Some fics marked with lime and lemon signs have adult content. Recommended by Mindpron.

Anime Addventure. The Anime Addventure, started in 2005 (Roughly) is quite possibly the largest and longest running round robin in existence. While it started with Ranma fanfics, it now covers pretty much every series known to man, with close to 900 currently active threads operating. Recommended by Nemuikougi.

-Videogames (general)-

IcyBrian's RPG Fanfic Library. An archive of 1200 stories set in different RPG videogame, although Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7&8 are by far the biggest sections. Recommended by MrEmperor. [NOTES: The archive is still online, but database issues make navigation problematic at best. Nevertheless, old copies of the site in the Wayback Machine remain functional.]

-Anita Blake-

Pomme de Sang/Sourdre de Sang. Archive for Anita Blake fanfiction, containing some three thousand stories. That this place contains adult content (plenty!) goes without saying. Recommended by Haek'Set.

-Babylon 5-

jumpnow.de. A webpage that contains a moderately large archive of Babylon 5 fics, mostly stories containing Sheridan/Delenn romantic elements.

-Battlestar Galactica-

Galactica Fanfic. With four hundred stories in its archive (including some crossovers), this is perhaps the largest online repository of BSG fanfic outside of FF.net. Recommended by BobDL.

-Blake's 7-

Hammer to Fall: A Blake's 7 Story Archive. A now disappeared archive that used to be one of the main repositories for B7 fanfic in the Internet. Fortunately, the fine folks of Archive.org have collected a complete copy of the page for our use.

The Blake's 7 Library. Also known as the Hermit's Library, THE definite online archive for B7 fanfiction containing six hundred stories. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Buffy The Vampire Slayer-

Better Buffy Fiction Archive. An automated archive of moderate size (502 stories) for tales once recommended in the Better Buffy Fics List. Adult content allowed.

I Need A Parrot... A moderately large (~1000 stories) archive for Xander centric stories, including crossovers. Adult content allowed.

Twisting The Hellmouth. A fairly large archive containing several thousand Buffy crossover fics, as well as a number of pure Buffy/Angel fics. Adult content allowed.

Xanderzone. Another rather large archive for Xander centric stories. Includes crossovers and adult content. Allows femslash, but no slash. Recommended by Teal_Thanatos.

-Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers-

The RRDatabase. An archive for fanfiction and fanart based in this old Disney cartoon series. Contains a number of links for this fandom, a somewhat rudimentary episode guide and other useful stuff. [NOTE: As of 10-12-13, the site main page seems to be down, but is at least partially up.]

-Daria-

Outpost Daria. A Daria fan site containing a fan fiction archive of hundreds of stories, including crossovers. Last updated in 2011. Recommended by Sean Mulligan. [NOTE: Site offline as of 24-06-13, so link redirects to Wayback Machine backup.]

-Doctor Who-

A Teaspoon And An Open Mind. A large archive containing several tens of thousands of fics about Doctor Who and its spin-offs. The archive accepts all fics for as long as they are "related in some way to Doctor Who", including crossover fics and stories with adult content.

-Fallout-

No Mutants Allowed. A Fallout community that hosts a smallish fanfiction section.

-Gargoyles-

The Gargoyles Fan Fiction Website. A long lived and moderately large Gargoyles archive, including some crossovers. Has a separate section for fics with adult content.

-Ghostbusters-

Sheila's Real Ghostbusters Fan Page! Allegedly, the largest online collection of Ghostbusters fics and crossovers outside of FF.net. Also contains some non Ghostbusters fanfiction by the archivist and a rather complete collection of links for other Ghostbusters online resources. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Harry Potter-

FanficAuthors.net. A page originally created by the authors Jeconais and Crys to host their own fanfiction, which has since expanded to include the work of a number of additional authors (personally invited to join by the webmasters). Most of the fics in this page are Harry Potter, with a number of crossovers and a fair amount of adult content. Recommended by Sean Mulligan.

Fictionalley. A very large HP fanfiction archive divided in a number of sections: Schnoogle (novel-length fics), The Astronomy Tower (romantic stories), The Dark Arts (darkfics and assorted angstfests) and Ridikkulus (comedy/parody). Crossovers accepted. Adult content allowed.

HarryPotterFanfiction.com. A very old archive of HP fanfic boasting a large archive of 70,000+ fics. Good, if uninteresting interface. Admits crossovers. Recommended by ACE Albert.

La Société des Femmes Dangereuses. A page containing an archive of a number of HP fics written by a group of associated female writers. Last updated in 2006. Recommended by Sean Mulligan.

PatronusCharm. An archive for fics picked by the denizens of the 'Dark Lord Potter' forums. Focus in 'independent and darker' main characters, but fic quality is supposed to be better than average. Recommended by Perspicacity.

Portkey.org. Declares "No Fancy Slogan, Only Good Stuff". Without judging quality, it is a large archive of several thousand fics. Includes adult content and (a few) crossovers. Recommended by Sean Mulligan.

Sink Into Your Eyes. A Harry/Ginny archive with four thousand tales in its collection, including some crossovers and stories that are not Harry/Ginny despite the archive focus. Reportedly there are some very good fics in here. Recommended by Mindpron.

The Sugar Quill. A moderately large archive, not updated since late 2008. Considering their story submission guidelines, the archive was conceived as a haven for authors who regarded themselves as book purists (explicitly rejecting fics based in the WB movies). Therefore, the archive contains no crossovers whatsoever. Recommended by Sean Mulligan.

-Hercules: The Legendary Journeys-

The Less Than Legendary Journeys. A minor archive, containing a relatively few crossovers. Includes adult content, mostly slash, and a couple of crossovers. Last updated in 2006.

-Highlander-

HL Fiction. Also known as the Highlander Fiction Automated Archive. At just over a thousand stories, this archive is considerably smaller than Seventh Dimension, but still active at present. Accepts crossovers and adult/sexual content, but all hosted material must be related to Highlander in some fashion.

Seventh Dimension. A rather large (3,300 fics) archive for Highlander stories, including crossovers. Not updated since 2007. Decent Links section.

-I Dream of Jeannie-

Jeannie Sisters. A IDOJ fansite with a comparatively large fanfiction section, dominated by a post-season 5 fan continuation of the original series. Also contains multimedia resources and mildly useful facts about the series. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Lord of the Rings-

Henneth Annun Story Archive. A pretty large (4000+ fics) archive for LotR fanfiction. Crossovers accepted. Adult content allowed.

-Lost-

The LOST Fan Fiction Archive. A moderately sized archive (690 stories, as of the latest updates in 2006) for fics of the LOST series. Seemingly because of it being abandoned by its archivists long ago, the site is no longer functional. However, old versions safely stored in the Wayback Machine remain fully operational. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-My Little Pony-

Equestria Daily. A blog that acts as the central hub for much of the recent wave of MLP fanfiction. Though not a true archive itself, the page contains extensive listings of fanfiction and links to locate said fics.

Fimfiction. Probably the largest archive for the MLP fandom in the Internet. Adult content allowed.

-Neon Genesis Evangelion-

Darkscribes. A small (250 fics or so), but apparently influential archive in the NGE fandom. Also hosts a number of crossovers. Recommended by Satori. Unfortunately, they have gone offline as of 04-07-11.

-Ranma 1/2-

Ranmafics. An old page containing a substantial number of crossovers between the Ranma 1/2 manga and other settings. [NOTE: Offline as of 24-06-13, so link redirects to the mostly complete Wayback Machine backup of the site.]

The Penultimate Ranma Fanfic Index. Although it was last revised in late 2005, the Ranma Fanfic Index is still one of the best ways of finding thousands of old Ranma 1/2 fics. [NOTE: As of 12-05-12, Rakhal Stormwarden has shut down the fanfic index because of loss of interest, but the Wayback Machine has extensive backups of the site in its glory days, so we're good in regards to this.]

-Sentinel-

Cascade Library. Still active archive with over 2,000 Sentinel fics, including crossovers with other series. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Shadow Chasers-

The National Register Fan Fiction Archive. Formerly the SCFFA. Main online repository of Shadow Chasers fanfiction, including a large proportion of stories previously published in fanzines. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-SitComs-

Sitcoms Online Fanfiction Board. Contains fanfiction for a number of classic TV series (chiefly sitcoms such as The Cosby Show, Cheers/Frasier, Gilligan's Island and such). Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Smallville-

The Level Three Records Room. A fairly extensive collection of Smallville fanfiction. Contains some crossovers and the archive FAQ notes that adult content is allowed, so reader discretion is recommended.

-Space 1999-

Space: 1999 Fiction Archive. A small (225 stories) archives that probably is the largest active hub of creative work for this fandom.

-Stargate-

Area 52: The HKH Standard. A large (10,000+ fics) archive of Stargate fanfics with a slash or femslash theme. Recommended by ACE Albert.

Heliopolis. One of the older and larger Stargate fanfic archives around with sections for both Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis. Adult content allowed in the Helio 2 section.

Jackfic.net. Tales from Stargate Command and the Pegasus Galaxy. An archive for Jack O'Neil-centric fics. Rather small, but contains a number of resources that might be useful for writers of Stargate fics. Recommended by nemo1986.

Stargate SG-1 Fanfiction & Multimedia. A fansite containing a rather large archive of Stargate fics (some adult content, some crossovers, no slash) and multimedia resources (screen-caps, video files and such). Also has a useful links section. Recommended by ACE Albert. [NOTE: Archive seems to have disappeared, with no copy in the Wayback Machine, but according to the Fanlore wiki, the archive's contents are supposed to have been relocated to AO3.]

The Alpha Gate. Yet another Stargate SG-1 fanfic archive of rather decent size (4,000 fics), this one with a focus in Jack/Daniel slash. Some crossovers, but no Atlantis or season 6 fics whatsoever. Recommended by ACE Albert.

The Stargate Novel Archive. An archive for novel-length (150+ KB in raw text format) Stargate fanfiction with hundreds of fics in its collection. Inactive since 2005, but still worth visiting. Recommended by yip_e_ki_yae. [NOTE: Archive relocated to a new address, link modified.]

Wormhole Crossing. A smallish archive for stories involving crossovers between the Stargate series and other fandoms. Recommended by her3tic.

Wraithbait. The main Stargate Atlantis fanfic archive outside FF.net, with approximately 9,000 stories in its collection. Accepts crossover and adult content (including slash). Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Star Trek-

Trekiverse. Old archive for Star Trek fanfiction posted in the Usenet group alt.startrek.creative and related subgroups, plus the odd submission that allegedly form the largest collection of Trek fanfiction in the net. Inactive since 2008. Archivists ask readers to be considerate in their bandwidth usage and to abstain from doing thinks like downloading the entire archive in a single day. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Star Trek VS Star Wars-

alt.startrek.vs.starwars Fanfic Archive. A moderately large archive spawned in the old ASVS Usenet group, mostly containing Trek vs Wars crossovers. Has a minor number of non crossovers fics of other fandoms, such as the Culture or 40k. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Star Wars-

Fan Fiction forum at TheForce.Net. The largest Star Wars forums around had a proportionally large fanfiction section that has been unavailable for over a year now, but having recently completed a data migration to Xenforo they are open for business again. Sadly, some issues during the transfer (Xenforo limiting posts to 10,000 characters) has lefts the old stories unreadable for the time being, though there is work reportedly being done in the matter and the mod team over there hopes to correct the issue shortly.

Fanfix.com. An archive of Star Wars fics and crossovers that vanished from the Internet in 2003, along with a number of decent works that weren't hosted elsewhere. Thankfully, the Wayback Machine saved it for our enjoyment. Recommended (and link provided) by Sean Mulligan.

The Pad-Ani Fanfiction Archive. An archive for fanfics focused in the Anakin/Padme pairing which used to have a modest collection of 150 fics, until it went offline in late 2009. Fortunately, the Wayback Machine has an archived copy and seems to have actually saved the stories in this case. Recommended by ACE Albert.

-Tenchi Muyo-

The Tenchi Muyo Fan Fiction Archive (Old version). The TMFFA was once a much more active and considerably larger site, but after a number of difficulties the more modern version of the site was taken down. Nonetheless, TMFFA remains the only place to read a largish number of old Tenchi fics. There is an adult section under the 'Lemons' subsection that contains some dowright creepy stuff. You've been warned. [NOTE: The site seems to have gone the way of the dodo in the live web, but the Wayback Machine still has a working copy.]

-The X Files-

Ephemeral: The X-Files Fanfic Auto Archive. An archive of X-Files stories, containing some 2,500 fics. Recommended by Malaskor.

The Annex. A (long inactive) archive for novel-length X-Files fanfiction.

The Gossamer Project. Allegedly the largest X Files fanfiction archive in existence.

-Total Annihilation-

The Junkyard. Once upon a time, one of the main repositories of TA "war stories".

EDIT 1 (24-4-09): Seeing that previous post size restrictions have apparently been lifted, the entire list is now in the OP. A minor update will be done in the next few days.

EDIT 2 (16-6-09): Checked the link validity for reference pages and added a much needed entry for Archive.org. Started adding fic archives for a number of fandoms.

EDIT 3 (21-8-09): Added a few links for Marvel and Gi-Joe stuff.

EDIT 4 (22-9-10): Major overhaul with general link revision. Additions for Evangelion, Power Rangers and Avatar. Some additional stuff will be added over the next few days.

EDIT 5 (1-4-11): General link revision. Included contributor additions and some extra stuff for Marvel.

EDIT 6 (11-5-12): General link revision. Added some stuff for Space: 1999, plus a couple extra links to fanfiction archives.

EDIT 7 (27-9-12): Added buncha new fanfiction archives that I found about through old threads for Anita Blake, Daria, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, X Files and a whole bunch of additional series.

EDIT 8 (24-6-13): General link revision. Added some stuff for a number of fandoms and some contributions.

EDIT 9 (12-6-14): Added a number of contributions. Will do a general link revision over the next few weeks.

EDIT 10 (30-8-15): General link revision. Added various contributions for a number of fandoms (including Ghostbusters), fixed various links and some other stuff.

This topic has hereby been made a Fanfic forum announcement due to its general usefulness to writers. That is all.

That link is dead; I think this is the same guy/"dictionary" though.
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

Well, after a long time ignoring this, I decided to give it an update. Most dead links have been updated/redirected to saved copies of the original pages and the majority of the new resources suggested by contributors have been added.

As always, comments and criticism are most welcome.
