My level of responsibility?

Post by The Yosemite Bear »

Ok, I have a job serving alcohol in a company owned pool hall/restaurant. I only serve beer & wine off the tap (No bottles), I don't sell cigarettes. Now I have a police officer, comming in, telling me I have to be more responsible, because he caught minors smoking and drinking from a beer can/bottles, at my back docks, next to the dumpsters/parking lot. (the kids fled, leaving behind the booze)

Now since I concern myself with the people I serve, keeping things nice INSIDE where I work, I thought I was ok)

So what in you oppinion does my area of responsibility carry over to>

Your level of Responblity only extends to what you have in your store plus anything you see, If you did not see it, its not your responbility to a point

yes, like I said thats, what I thought too

This Police Ranger is threatening to have me closed down, if the kids don't stop hanging out drinking beer I don't sell, at my loading dock at night were I can't see them, unless my name suddenly changed to Kal El.

And if it did, why can't is see through the skirt of that 22 year old, who dressed up as Hermoine and got into a cat fight with the 22 year old who dressed as Sailor Venus (last halloween)?

Unless you let clients put their drinks in empty bottles they brought or you let them roll cigarettes with the napkins, what the fuck that police officer was thinking?

How come the officer didn't understand your position.

Didn't you explain the situation to him?

To me it sounds like the policeman had a bad day and put the scare on you so that you would drive away the kids next time you saw them.

y'know, if it is your property, I think you do have legal responsibilty, but not certain.

But as a bartender, your job is surely not to sell alcohol to minors, right?

Ask him what applicable law applies to being closed down for kids that haven't bought anything there, doing shit on the property.

Considering that they were out back of the building you were in, it is not your job, seeing as you are bartender; it is the job of all else that work there to make sure that it is taken care of. Furthermore, considering the tap only circumstances, you can't be blamed for giving it to them.

The only way I can see you having any responsibility is if they somehow got the beer out of your place. Politely tell the officer that he has your permission to add trespassing to the charges against them if he ever catches them.

From personal experience: Some police officers are morons. Except report the crime, what else does you police force expect you to do???

What the police officers threatens, and what he can do are two different things.

If I were you, I'd go to the police station and file a report on behalf of your business, saying how teenage vandals are routinely messing up your place of work (litter) and you believe that they might be committing crimes (underage drinking). Add that the local police force is aware of this and is not doing enough to discourage the vandalism of your business property.

WHenever you find empty bear bottles, report it to the police and again complain how ineffective the local police force is. Maybe mention something about how the local paper might think this would make an interesting story (police know when and where a crime is taking place but are too lazy to do anything about it).

I'd go with Bean's suggestion. Put the poster, make sure you have the name of the officer right, and if possible try to get a nice picture of him looking menacing.

I do not see how you are responsible for the drinking habits of others that did not purchase from you. Besides, what are supposed to do, leave the bar and go check the docks? Then you are leaving your post and being irresponsible. Since this is on govt land, I would expect that it is the responsibility of the RANGER to deal with underage drinking on FEDERAL PROPERTY. But that is just me.

No, you're not responsible. However, you might want to get a security camera and speaker set up in back so you can know when the kids are there and then in the booming voice of God (tm) proclaim:

I can see you
