So now I've got a Wii
And I'm looking for suggestions for games. I'd be particularly interested in fighting games with somewhat realistic movements, if such things exist (although I realize there's a limit to how realistic they can be, with no physical feedback and all).

Try Victorious Boxer's Revolution, or whatever the English Hajime no Ippo game got called.
Elsewise, Okami is fun, and of the wiiware games, Megaman 9 is quite spiffy. The big name titles are all kind of obvious as well.
Oh yeah, and No More Heroes. Hilarious and fun. Also a glorious deconstruction of video games in general, but you can totally ignore it if you like.

No More Heroes is fun, if a bit niche. Definitely worth a rental. There's also a massive selection of virtual console games out there worth grabbing.

Lost Winds is surprisingly good, if you have the patience for it. Prime 3 and SSB:B are pretty safe bets too, the latter especially if you have a few friends in the room.

I'm getting Monster Hunter Tri when it comes out. You might like it too.

Although it's not realistic by any stretch of the word, I highly recommend Super Smash Bros. It's the Tecmo Super Bowl of our generation.
Furthermore, some non-fighters you may want are Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, and Tales of Symphonia when it comes out if you played the original.

Re: So now I've got a Wii
for fighters on the wii, I gotta say I've gotten the most entertainment out of DBZ bodukai (sp?) 2, the voice overs are annoying, but damn is that game fun.

Re: So now I've got a Wii
I actually already have Mario Kart, and someone told me Zelda was actualy kind of fighter-ish in the way you have to do the sword work. I'm obviously going to have to go rent SSB just to see if I think it's worth buying.Qwerty 42 wrote:Although it's not realistic by any stretch of the word, I highly recommend Super Smash Bros. Re: So now I've got a Wii
Well, the swordplay in Twilight Princess (Zelda) isn't terribly intuitive. They did the best they could with building off of the Gamecube game of the same name, so it isn't 1:1 motion. That doesn't mean it's a bad game (quite the opposite: I've bemoaned the way the game ends, but the story is superb and the fights very intense in no small part because of the motion controls,) and it is a lot more realistic feeling than any other adventure game, just don't expect to come out of it a master fencer.Ted C wrote:I actually already have Mario Kart, and someone told me Zelda was actualy kind of fighter-ish in the way you have to do the sword work. Also, when you rent SSBB make sure you play rounds with friends. It's a wholly unremarkable single-player title, but it's one of the most fun multiplayer games ever.

SSBB is more than Worth it. The Force Unleashed is the closest thing you'll get to a real Star Wars adventure on a Video Game to date. Super Mario Strikers Charged is surprisingly addictive fun. Mario Kart Wii is ok if you're a fan. The House of The Dead has been remade for the wii and is awesome for fans of the original arcade
That's just my opinion and I got my wii on day one so I've been around the block.
Speaking of which, did you know you can buy classic games and programs (including an Internet browser) from which you can download? Ocarina of Time has never been better!
Qwerty 42 may be right about Zelda's swordplay but I'm sure the improvements to the swordplay in Force Unleashed are beyond better. But that game's all about the Force It truly is unleashed!

Re: So now I've got a Wii
Get Super Smash Bros Brawl, and look up your local chapter of the competitive scene. Seriously, competitive Brawl got me playing games again, and the community is great.
Super Mario Strikers is great. You can do online co-op 2v2- get a friend over at your house, with one wii and two controllers, and go in a team vs other people online.
Super Mario Galaxy is just beautiful. Though single player.

A more general tip: dig through discount and used game bins. Wii and Gamecube titles tend to end up getting (re)sold for $peanuts, and you can do some great deals, especially on games that are fun-but-not-worth-full-price. I bough NFS: Pro Street for 80% off last week and at that price, it's not a bad game.
Re: So now I've got a Wii
This. Go find an old copy of Soul Calibur II, if you don't own one already. That is currently the most played game on my Wii, and absolutely worth it.Bounty wrote:A more general tip: dig through discount and used game bins. Re: So now I've got a Wii
I recommend Godzilla Unleashed as a good, very unconventional fighting game. There's a bit of a learning curve with the controls, but they utilize the nunchuck and remote very well.

Re: So now I've got a Wii
Me and Zaia recently got a Wii too (my first console ever, in fact) I was wondering what FPS is best on the Wii, besides Metroid Prime 3 (which I plan on getting, all round it sounds good). Are any available with any kind of split screen mode? (I hear the Wii would have trouble with that kind of thing).

The N64 did splitscreen just fine, there's no reason the Wii couldn't - provided the game is designed well. Too bad not many developers seem eager to try a Wii FPS.Lord Woodlouse wrote:Me and Zaia recently got a Wii too (my first console ever, in fact) I was wondering what FPS is best on the Wii, besides Metroid Prime 3 (which I plan on getting, all round it sounds good). The only one I know with splitscreen is Medal of Honour: Vanguard, and that's not very good. MoH: Heroes 2 is a solid FPS, but it's only got online multiplayer, not local. Red Steel and Call of Duty 3 are sort of decent if you can get them cheap, but they don't have MP at all. Far Cry and Brothers in Arms are terrible.
That's about it, I'm afraid. the Conduit looks good but that's still some months away.
If you can find two decent controllers, track down a copy of Timesplitters 2. It's a Gamecube title but it runs great on the Wii, and it's one of the best local multiplayer FPS packages on any console. Imagine GoldenEye's MP with flamethrower-toting monkeys in a Chinese restaurant fighting snowmen.

Re: So now I've got a Wii
Aye, I got that sense from what I've gathered so far. It seems slightly illogical to me that a multiplayer orientated system like the Wii has such a lack of multiplayer FPS games on it, especially since to me the control system is the most suited to a FPS among any console past or present (to the point where I, a born and bred computer gamer, doesn't balk at the idea).Bounty wrote:The N64 did splitscreen just fine, there's no reason the Wii couldn't - provided the game is designed well. Oh well, I'm going to choose between Heroes 2 and World at War. From what I've read the controls of the former are superior, but the cinematic feeling of the latter is better. Anyone here played both?
Also, RPGs... I realise there's not really anything out at the moment worthy of mention, but has anyone heard much about upcoming RPGs for the Wii that sound like they might be worth a gander?
...and that little tank game in Wii Play, basic as it is, is very fun. Anyone know of a more detailed version as a full game that might be around?

Re: So now I've got a Wii
I've got Heroes 2, and while I can't compare it to CoD (don't own that one), I can say that it really lacks immersion. The levels are pretty good, but it's less an FPS and more a rail shooter with free movement. Or just a plain rail shooter, if you pick the "rail shooter" mode that uses the exact same levels as the single-player game. You'll spend most of your time crouching behind cover picking off Germans crouching behind cover while waiting for your health to reload.
As a game, it's pretty fun. As a historical FPS, it's... hollow.

Re: So now I've got a Wii
Can't help with the first question, but there is at least one good RPG for the Wii: ToS:DotNW, although it's not worth picking up if you didn't play its predecessor. FF:CC:EoT looks like a good cheap buy coming up next spring, as well. And, sadly, WiiPlay Tanks doesn't have a fuller version.Lord Woodlouse wrote:Aye, I got that sense from what I've gathered so far. From what I gather Tales of Symphonia has atrocious voice acting, which really spoils the game along with the thing being apparently far too linear and dated. I've already decided it's a substandard RPG unworthy of my time until I have reason to believe otherwise.
From my understanding the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game is going to be a big full price RPG, rather than a cheap little thing. It's been in development for a good number of years, apparently.

Well, I won't contest the voice acting. However, I think the game thrived on taking a linear plot style and inverting it, like when the angels you're saving the world for are actually just using you as a way to resurrect their Goddess through the death of the Chosen one, which spurs on the entire second half of the game, which is looking for a way to destroy the organization you'd been helping before, but I can't change your mind for you. From what I gather Tales of Symphonia has atrocious voice acting, which really spoils the game along with the thing being apparently far too linear and dated. You may be thinking of The Crystal Bearers, which has indeed been in production for forever. I was thinking of Echoes of Time, which certainly doesn't look like a fifty dollar title:From my understanding the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game is going to be a big full price RPG, rather than a cheap little thing. But, in my experience, it's a quality multiplayer title regardless of appearance.
