Particles and energy can still pass through the field. I am beginning to think that the ship is actuall traveling outside of real spaceand acts sort of like a really poor hyperdrive. In theory, you would be disstorting hyperspace and this would cause sort of the same effect as opening two jump points at the exact same point in Babylon 5. Again, this is just a theory.
But it's a theory that is based solely on conjecture. There's no reason to believe that hyperspace has energy in it. In fact, Traitor seems to indicate that nothing exists in hyperspace. There isn't any evidence for this theory, and so it fails as a hypothesis. In order to formulate a theory, SOMETHING is necessary as evidence it. We have nothing.

Hyperdrive could make a good weapon... unless it starts leaking. ; )

Well, then we now have one kick butt propulsion system. Sorry, about the inconvience people.

OK, sorry, it's not a theory yet but just a hypothesis. There's a difference; a theory is substantiated and has evidence supporting it, while a hypothesis is basically an idea.

Don't worry about it. You weren't sure about something so you asked a question. That's what people are supposed to do.

If you had continued insisting you were right in the face of a mountain of evidence, that when you get flamed.

Stick around. Enjoy the board. Crush Trekkies.

I am a sensible trekkie. I think that we should just try to get along. But, Trek has one advantage, more hot chicks. I apologize to all women who are now offened by my comment. I am still in high school. BTW, I am not willing to go against the evidence because of the death and destruction rained down upon the uber trekkies in the hate mail area. I wish someone would put some chlorine in the Trek gene pool. I personally like fanasty a little more than scifi, so SW is more to my liking. I just hope that my writing skills improve enough so that I can write my own SW trilogy, (maybe I could talk Mr. Lucas into using it for SW 7-9!)

Not to be a smart ass or to say anybody's wrong, but for your amusment, a comparison between a hypothesis and a theory (according to the venerable dictionary.com):
Hypothesis n.

1) A tentative explanation for an observation, phenomenon, or scientific problem that can be tested by further investigation.

2) Something taken to be true for the purpose of argument or investigation; an assumption.

3) The antecedent of a conditional statement.
Theory n.

1) A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.

2) The branch of a science or art consisting of its explanatory statements, accepted principles, and methods of analysis, as opposed to practice: a fine musician who had never studied theory.

3) A set of theorems that constitute a systematic view of a branch of mathematics.

4) Abstract reasoning; speculation: a decision based on experience rather than theory.

5) A belief or principle that guides action or assists comprehension or judgment: staked out the house on the theory that criminals usually return to the scene of the crime.

6) An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.
A lot of people (laymen) do use the terms as if they are interchangable, in everyday speech...
