The three bozos is a good example of what's worse here. It's not gonna be some calm and calculating assassination. It's if the Secret Service doesn't catch it in time, people will get hurt just because these people are as dangerous to their surroundings as their target.

It's Fake Apology Time with this week's guest, the congressman who just used up his fifteen minutes of fame in a really stupid way!

Congressman sorry for likening Obama to Hitler
Posted: 02:38 PM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) — Republican Paul Broun is sorry for calling President-elect Barack Obama a 'Marxist' and comparing him to Adolf Hitler, the Georgia Congressman said Tuesday.

“I regret putting it that way,” he told WGAC radio in Augusta, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “I apologize to anyone who has taken offense at that.”

In an interview with the Associated Press earlier this week, Broun admitted to calling the future commander-in-chief a 'Marxist' at a recent Rotary club meeting, and said Obama has expressed support for policies similar to those of Hitler.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Broun told the AP. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may– may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun was specifically referring to a July speech by Obama, where the then-Democratic presidential nominee said he supports a civilian force helping the military when it comes to national security: "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded [as the military]," Obama said in the speech that was largely a call to national service.

Responding to those comments, Broun told the AP Monday: "That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did. When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun added. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

The Obama transition office did not respond to Broun's comments, and in his interview Tuesday to WGAC, the first term congressman said, “The point I tried to make is that he is extremely liberal, he has promoted a lot of socialistic ideas, and it just makes me concerned."

Ironically the Nazis were purportedly progressive in areas like smoking and animal rights, even though that was tied up in their nutty pseudo-science.

Now, what are the probabilities there's now a gun owner whose mentally unhinged, feels he has nothing to lose, and hears this stuff regularly? You get enough gun owners, you will satisfy practically any minority as being present..
Wow, I'm glad I don't work for the secret Service. The next 8 years might be a little crazy. Any other candidate have two assassination attempts when on campaign?
Off the top of my head, I recall that Theodore Roosevelt was actually *shot* while making a speech. He remarked that he was "fit as a bull-mouse (moose?)" and kept talking for several more minutes. This is when he decided that the Republican Party wasn't doing a good enough job, and he'd get back into the Presidency with his OWN party and fix things up. Unfortunately, to the split he caused, Woodrow Wilson managed to win the election. Teddy was a real Republican "maverick" unlike McCain. I'm sure I've seen several "motivational" posters around this site; showing several republican presidents with mottos like "TR: because one time the Republican party had a heart," "Eisenhower; because one time the Republican party had a brain" "George W Bush: because now the Republican party has just a chimp." Mentioned Lincoln too..

To clarify, Teddy Roosevelt was shot, but it went through a hugely thick speech he had and was deflected into a nonfatal area. Since he was an adventurer, avid big game hunter, and all around badass, he examined his own wound, determined it was nonfatal for at least a day, and gave a 2 hour speech starting with the words "I don't know if you comprehend what just happened, but I've been shot."

This was right before he travelled through time and defeated Hitler, though, so I doubt Obama would be awesome enough to have a bullet sailing at his heart pull out first in a game of chicken.

Cyborg Lincoln could do the same except with a 15 minute speech... But then, he was Cyborg Lincoln... Ah, thank god for Cyborg Licoln and Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt---travelling through time to fight Hitler before time-travel was even invented, and one of the bright spots of the Republican party.

To clarify what MRDOD was talking about, up until the time travelling bit...
While Roosevelt was campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 14, 1912, a saloonkeeper named John Schrank shot him, but the bullet lodged in his chest only after penetrating both his steel eyeglass case and passing through a thick (50 pages) single-folded copy of the speech he was carrying in his jacket.[82] Roosevelt, as an experienced hunter and anatomist, correctly concluded that since he wasn't coughing blood the bullet had not completely penetrated the chest wall to his lung, and so declined suggestions he go to the hospital immediately. Instead, he delivered his scheduled speech with blood seeping into his shirt.[83] He spoke for ninety minutes. His opening comments to the gathered crowd were, "Ladies and gentlemen, I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot; but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose."[84] Afterwards, probes and X-ray showed that the bullet had traversed three inches (76 mm) of tissue and lodged in Roosevelt's chest muscle but did not penetrate the pleura, and it would be more dangerous to attempt to remove the bullet than to leave it in place. Roosevelt carried it with him for the rest of his life.[85]

Due to the bullet wound, Roosevelt was taken off the campaign trail in the final weeks of the race (which ended election day, November 5). Though the other two campaigners stopped their own campaigns in the week Roosevelt was in the hospital, they resumed it once he was released. The overall effect of the shooting was uncertain. Roosevelt for many reasons failed to move enough Republicans in his direction. He did win 4.1 million votes (27%), compared to Taft's 3.5 million (23%). However, Wilson's 6.3 million votes (42%) were enough to garner 435 electoral votes. Roosevelt had 88 electoral votes to Taft's 8 electoral votes. (This meant that Taft became the only incumbent President in history to actually come in third place in an attempt to be re-elected.)
Sorry it's Wikipedia, but it explains it quite nicely for our purposes.

Dumbshits like Broun really need to be careful of what they say, because speaking of assassination attempts:
More threats against Obama since election

Law enforcement officials say he's getting more than other presidents-elect

The Associated Press

updated 7:48 p.m. ET, Fri., Nov. 14, 2008

WASHINGTON - Threats against a new president historically spike right after an election, but from Maine to Idaho law enforcement officials are seeing more against Barack Obama than ever before.

The Secret Service would not comment or provide the number of cases they are investigating. But since the Nov. 4 election, law enforcement officials have seen more potentially threatening writings, Internet postings and other activity directed at Obama than has been seen with any past president-elect, said officials aware of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the issue of a president's security is so sensitive.

Earlier this week, the Secret Service looked into the case of a sign posted on a tree in Vay, Idaho, with Obama's name and the offer of a "free public hanging." In North Carolina, civil rights officials complained of threatening racist graffiti targeting Obama found in a tunnel near the North Carolina State University campus.

And in a Maine convenience store, an Associated Press reporter saw a sign inviting customers to join a betting pool on when Obama might fall victim to an assassin. The sign solicited $1 entries into "The Osama Obama Shotgun Pool," saying the money would go to the person picking the date closest to when Obama was attacked. "Let's hope we have a winner," said the sign, since taken down.

In the security world, anything "new" can trigger hostility, said Joseph Funk, a former Secret Service agent-turned security consultant who oversaw a private protection detail for Obama before the Secret Service began guarding the candidate in early 2007.

'Increased chatter'

Obama, of course, will be the country's first black president, and Funk said that new element, not just race itself, is probably responsible for a spike in anti-Obama postings and activity. "Anytime you're going to have something that's new, you're going to have increased chatter," he said.

The Secret Service also has cautioned the public not to assume that any threats against Obama are due to racism.

The service investigates threats in a wide range. There are "stated threats" and equally dangerous or lesser incidents considered of "unusual interest" — such as people motivated by obsessions or infatuations or lower-level gestures such as effigies of a candidate or an elected president. The service has said it does not have the luxury of discounting anything until agents have investigated the potential danger.

Racially tinged graffiti — not necessarily directed at Obama — also has emerged in numerous reports across the nation since Election Day, prompting at least one news conference by a local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Georgia.

A law enforcement official who also spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly said that during the campaign there was a spike in anti-Obama rhetoric on the Internet — "a lot of ranting and raving with no capability, credibility or specificity to it."

There were two threatening cases with racial overtones:

# In Denver, a group of men with guns and bulletproof vests made racist threats against Obama and sparked fears of an assassination plot during the Democratic National Convention in August.

# Just before the election, two skinheads in Tennessee were charged with plotting to behead blacks across the country and assassinate Obama while wearing white top hats and tuxedos.

In both cases, authorities determined the men were not capable of carrying out their plots.

Poster with bullet going through head

In Milwaukee, police officials found a poster of Obama with a bullet going toward his head — discovered on a table in a police station.

Chatter among white supremacists on the Internet has increased throughout the campaign and since Election Day.

One of the most popular white supremacist Web sites got more than 2,000 new members the day after the election, compared with 91 new members on Election Day, according to an AP count. The site, <link purposely taken out by me because I don't want to link to these shitstains from this site--FSTD>, was temporarily off-line Nov. 5 because of the overwhelming amount of activity it received after Election Day. On Saturday, one <...> poster, identified as Dalderian Germanicus, of North Las Vegas, said, "I want the SOB laid out in a box to see how 'messiahs' come to rest. God has abandoned us, this country is doomed."

It is not surprising that a black president would galvanize the white supremacist movement, said Mark Potok, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, who studies the white supremacy movement.

"The overwhelming flavor of the white supremacist world is a mix of desperation, confusion and hoping that this will somehow turn into a good thing for them," Potok said. He said hate groups have been on the rise in the past seven years because of a common concern about immigration.
As SirNitram suggests, all we need is some joker to get riled up even more from inflammatory language. Especially when it isn't coming from hate groups.
