If it doesn't have a hyperdrive it's not the Falcon. It's that simple.
That's one opinion. I was actually looking for the opinion of the guy doing the project, but yours is still useful.

Just to nitpick: I don't believe that the land that this project is on is particularly useful -- the building site is "a secluded 88 acre tract of wooded land", after all, and it needed a road to be built to it.

If I had the money, I'd like to build a 1:1 scale of an ISD. :)

If I had the money, I'd build a 1:1 scale model of the Death Star, maybe DSII. :P

On a more serious note, a full-sized Star Destroyer would make an awesome theme park/restaurant/shopping center/offices (with prime space probably being up on the bridge tower). On a practical note, would any of the members with engineering experience be able to weigh in on the feasibility of making a freestanding object 1600 meters long? Would current steel (or composites, or any material) be able to stand the strain? How many supports would be needed? Or would something like this only be really possible if it was floating?

You could just build from the trench up.

I think structurally, the main problem with a Star Destroyer, would be counterweighting the bow, if you wanted an unsupported bow.

You could build a transparent glass-walled foyer under the bow, perhaps being the entrance area. And you could fire fireworks out of the turbolasers.

As a theme-park an ISD would certainly get boring if it was all-ISD, as mentioned earlier in the thread, different areas could evoke different Star Wars sets. I don't just mean interiors - 1.6km is big enough to put Endor/Naboo/Tattooine exterior sets inside.

In fact, you only really need to build the edges of the ISD and the tower - the rest can be open area filled with theme park areas, and could be covered with removable textured grey tarpaulins in order to make it look right from the bridge. Gah, enough fantasising.

(I didn't use the PM because I thought that the answer might be of general interest.)
Good question.
That is still undecided.
The current inclination is to build the facade of the hyperdrive but leave most of the aft section open for other things like storage.

I saw some web site hits coming from this board so I thought I'd check it out.
Welcome, Chris!

I did an article on the Falcon's demise at Elstree Studios on my webpage. There's a few more pictures there (Taken by Pete Briggs)
than the sw.com article: THE FATE OF THE MILLENNIUM FALCON
Sweet.
Excellent article and pics.
I linked to it from the project blog. Hope that's OK.

I don't think he'll be answering through this forum. Poe recently excused himself from it.

Since no one on Earth can build a functional hyperdrive, the obvious solution is to put the facade of a hyperdrive to hide the water heater, the circuit breaker or other utilities, a closet or other storage space, etc.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Well, yes, it's an obvious solution. What I wanted was the actual builder's intended solution.
