And now, The opening of my Alternate Nemesis...

Post by Sothis »

The price of failure had always been high, she had known that when she had planned and plotted the downfall of her enemies, the enemies of her people. Not one had she expected compassion or even another chance from the Senate. And so it was, that she had been banished, to the mines.
Her former rank of Commander had served in some steed, for she was not a labourer, instead, a supervisor, responsible for some two-hundred miners, for making sure they met their quotas, for keeping Section D-12 on target.
Even so, her career was finished, her honour stripped from her, and even other Romulans viewed her with disdain. Only in the other supervisors did she find comfort. Together they had swapped stories of how they came to be on this barren, dark rock. From time to time, she had been rewarded with a few comforts of home, for ensuring targets were met, but it wasn’t enough, wasn’t nearly enough.
Her fall from grace had been due to the actions of one cursed ship, and her cursed captain. She had burned with rage for the first few months of her demotion, now that rage was replaced by a cold hate, a thirst for revenge that could not be quenched.
As time had gone by, so had that time showed on her. Where her features had been smooth, lines of age were beginning to show. Where her hair had been blonde, small traces of grey could now be seen. The eyes though, still blazed, for she was a fighter, who would never give in. All she needed was an opportunity.
After so much time though, she began to wonder- would she be doomed to serve out her remaining years on the dark, cold wasteland?
Fate though, was good at granting opportunities to people, in the strangest ways. An accident in Section C-12 had killed the supervisor, and several miners. A replacement had been requested, but until then, she was told she was in charge of both C-12 and D-12. It was whilst conducting an inspection of the mining shaft that she met him, and her eyes had bulged from surprise.
Supervisor Sela was face to face with Jean-Luc Picard, the famous Federation hero, Captain of the Enterprise.
Only it wasn’t Picard. Sela had heard a report stating the Enterprise, along with Picard, to be exploring the Great Arm, a loosely populated region of space, on a long-term survey mission. That region was weeks away at warp 5.
Requesting a word in private with the not-Picard, Sela soon learned of the Empire’s secret plans, abandoned plots to defeat the Federation in war. This man, was Picard, cloned shortly before the destruction of the Enterprise-D, as part of a plan to infiltrate Starfleet and cause chaos in the event of a war. As relations had thawed between the Empire and the Federation, the plan had been abandoned. The clone of Picard had been sent to the mines to die, an embarrassment to the Senate, and perhaps a possible reason for a war that was now undesirable. Why they had not simply killed him, Sela did not know.
The spirit of the man, even if he was just a clone, was incredible. Behind those eyes, was someone always thinking, planning, no doubt looking for a way to escape. Sela wondered what his original programming had been, if his loyalties to the Senate were still intact, or if years of hardship at the hand of Romulan overseers had eaten away at him. To talk to, he sounded exactly like Picard, though he would grimace, darken over, as though he too were harbouring a hate of him.
Sensing an opportunity, knowing that the sharp mind and faculties of this clone were intact, Sela set about getting the clone on her side. She would use him to have her revenge, against Picard, the Enterprise, all those who had foiled her and held her back…
