Re: Left4Dead Demo
Hours of fun on it last night with two mates and a third random guy who turned up but was fairly cool about it. Mainly on advanced, arse-kicking all the way. Those Tanks are bloody tough, fortunately, we brought 'guns'.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
Just started preloading! Was playing with a couple friends earlier this evening, I make a B-line for the safehouse, and one of my friends sets off a car alarm. I end up nearly dieing, because I now have to hold off zombies at the bottom of the stairs instead of standing in the doorway of the safehouse with pistols picking off zombies as they come down the stairs while avoiding friendlies.
Also, I agree with Tycho about using open channel for voice. So much better than push-to-talk. You don't have to think, you just say "Help-help-help!"

Re: Left4Dead Demo
I recently bought Farcry 2 and Call of Duty: World at War before I downloaded the Left 4 Dead demo.... now I have yet to even play Farcry 2 and can tell I probably won't now and COD:WAW is also going to stop getting played once L4D actually drops on the 18th. Money wasted and I hate that...
oh well at least this game kicks ass.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
Does anyone else have a hard time connecting to online games?
Re: Left4Dead Demo
Not only do I have a hard time finding a server from the lobby, but after trying to set up a dedicated server on my second computer, I find that no-one but me can connect to it.
I was, however, pleasantly surprised when I connected to my former room-mate's hosted game, as the university usually blocks servers of all sorts.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
That pipe bomb is amazing. I was put in the Subway safe room because of my low health so my two teammates could open the door without risking my death (We were playing on Expert), and about three hoards of zombies ran off at them from my entrance, but they only saw one. When they got killed, I found the dozens of zombies from the two hoards milling around the weapon table in the subway tunnel. I tossed a pipe bomb, and every one of them went up in a cloud of blood.
Then I pulled my pistols and fired a few shots at the top of the subway train. There was a pause, then a single zombie fell onto the table. The response: "I didn't even see him there!"

Re: Left4Dead Demo
The demo is pretty damn awesome, and I'm so far having fun with it and will definately be picking it up when it actually comes out. I'm up for an online demo game if anyone else is. I'll have to connect the console to my internet and actually check if I have some time, but if all else fails, I'll just use my brother's profile.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
Good lord I cannot stop playing this. I am going to be in trouble when the FULL game gets into my hands tomorrow.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
Has it been confirmed what the fourth scenario is going to be? I think it's called Death Toll, but I haven't found anything on what the location will be.

This game sounds good. I have a soft spot for coop games and zombie games and this looks like it fits both rather well.
Apparently nobody can see you without a signature.
Re: Left4Dead Demo
I for one think this game is pretty fucking awesome.
Does anyone know whether the "random" hordes that just appear sometimes are the Director or are scripted?

Re: Left4Dead Demo
There isn't much scripted in this game from what I've read. The director controls everything. Sure, if you shoot a car and set the alarm off, the arrival of zombies is scripted, but the actual number and where they come from is up to the AI and is, at least from what valve says, determined by how fast/slow and how well the players are moving along.Zablorg wrote:I for one think this game is pretty fucking awesome.

Now, from what I've read of people modding the PC side, the director is limited time-wise by the number of "special" zombies it can throw at you. I believe on normal difficulty, it's around 45 seconds. This doesn't mean that you'll have to deal with one every 45 seconds. It may wait and throw multiple ones at you at once, or stagger them.
But, I have just sat around and done nothing for a bit and been mauled by a zombie horde. I did nothing to set them off, but the music started playing (also controlled by the AI) and only a pipe-bomb from another player managed to keep them off us.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
Clearly, we need SDN steam group games. And the more the merrier.
As an aside, I've been ordered to use less pistols by some of my usual co-op partners. I like to think I'm conserving ammo, but I guess I should actually use things that are dangerous. Well, more dangerous.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
Just played it today, and all I can say is 'holy balls'. Maybe I'm just easy to please, but this was one of the best FPSs I've ever played. Mostly due to the '180 degree spin' button. Not really, but I do love that feature.
Re: Left4Dead Demo
^^What's wrong with pistols? It's not like you can shot and kill zombies 200ft away with a shotgun.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
Pistols are less powerful and, if dual-wielding, have a longer reload than any other weapon except the shotguns, which allow you to just end the reload and continue firing with whatever shells you loaded in. Really, unless you've ran out of ammo for your primary weapon, the pistols should only be used to hit targets too far for a shotgun or not valueable enough for your primary weapon (a single Boomer or several zombies standing in the distance, for example).Braedley wrote:^^What's wrong with pistols? That was my friend's guess, though it seems a lot different from the other three locations, not to mention the difficulty of maintaining claustrophobia mixed with open spaces and objectives on a highway while keeping it balanced. I wouldn't exactly want a Tank smashing through our group while trying to pass between a few wrecked cars when we have nowhere else to run.Highway?

Re: Left4Dead Demo
The pistols kills zombies in two hits though, at least on normal they do. Plus they don't run out of ammo, so you can conserve shotguns/uzis/better weapons for the tougher enemies.

Re: Left4Dead Demo
Holy shit the ending of Death Toll is insane. You face off against a Tank before making it the house to radio for a boat pickup when the opposition shows up. Two Tanks along with hordes of regular zombies. You also have to run from the house you've been using as a fire base to the boat as yet another fucking Tank and a shitload of zombies come screaming at you.
Dead Air was a cake walk aside from having to trigger the barrier and fending off the zombies.
Pistols are definitely a viable choice as I managed to get the Akimbo Assassin achievement with little difficulty on Advanced. You just have to avoid wasting shots and aim for the head more.

Just a thought: Should this topic be merged with the current Left4Dead topic?
