Here Q picks up every non banned SD.net Member with more than 50 posts (and there loved ones, see below) into the Star-Trek universe circa 2370. However, instead of dumping us in an area in which we will all get killed in a few weeks he gives us our own fleet.
More specifically, every board member (along with up to twenty friends and family members) has been transported to the star trek galaxy in an unclaimed star system not too far from the Federation, Cardassian Union and the Klingon Empire. The System has three planets, one Mars-like, one Mercury-like and one Earth-like. On the Earth like world is some industrial facilities and a few nice cities and such for your families to live in. Board members (based on post count) have been given command of a starship with a complement of marines. They are as such...
Regular Posters with 50-1,000 posts are given a Jem'hadar Attack Ship equipped with improved amenities (Replicators, Infirmary, chairs and such), 50 Marines and the Rank of Commander
Regular Posters with 1,001 to 2,500 posts are given a Defiant-class Starship, 100 marines and the Rank of Captain
Regular Poster with 2,501 to 5,000 posts get a Intrepid-class Starship, 250 Marines and the Rank of Rear Admiral
Regular Posters with 5,000 to 20,000 Posts and Mods minimum get either a Galaxy-class Starship or a D'deridex-class Cruiser, 500 marines and the Rank of Admiral
Regular Posters with 20,001 Posts, Supermods and Administrators get a Sovereign-class ship with two Defiant-class ships, 1,000 marines as escort, as well as the Rank of Admiral of the Fleet
People with a VI or other such negative title get a Danube-class Runabout and the Rank of Ensign
The Marines are human and have been outfitted with Modern Body armor and field equipment, as well as being armed with AK-74s (with and without grenade launchers), FN-p90s, USAS-12 Shotguns, Dragunov SVDs, Grenades, Colt M1911s and Katanas as well as having Mortars and Rocket Propelled Grenade launchers, are as capable fighters as Modern First world soldiers are and (like the crew) all speak with heavy Japanese, Italian, Scottish, Australian or Russian accents.
The Planet has in orbit a set of repair yards capable of servicing the entire fleet at once, as well as spare parts factories and ammunition works to replace torpedoes and shuttles and such. The Star has an antimatter production farm capable of supporting the ships needs. For Crew and marine replacement, there is a clone works capable of growing and neurologically programming an adult human to be a good marine/crew member in six months and able to produce 25,000 people at once.
What happens?

What about other fleet assets?
Also, with the number of board members, you're going to have a lot of Admiral ranks.

I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.
It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Didn't we have something like this before which results in a significantly more rationalized fleet.

Re: SD.net Starfleet (RAR!)
Sweet, I get an attack ship.
One question: are your marines loyal to you or too the chain of command? I ask this because with a population this large and... diverse, their is sure to be at least a jackass or two who immediately goes rouge, and tries to either settle some grudge with WMDS, start their own empire, or go genocide some Trek world for laughs (or all of the above). If marines are loyal to the chain of command, that would negate this problem in large part.
Also, are we given knowledge of how to operate the tech ourselves? The VIs don't get crew, so if the answer is no they drift in space until we rescue them or they die.
Presuming we know how to operate the Tech ourselves, and that our crews follow chain of command, I would do one of two things: I would assume my command and request permission to do some sort of deep space survey mission away from the inevitable front lines, or I would grab a runabout and leave with anyone else who would come. I know how Mr Wong and the mods run a forum, but I don't know how they'd run a country or a fleet, or weather one run by them would be one I'd want to live and serve in. If the crews are loyal to us personally, then I simply go my own way, probably to explore the Beta Quadrant. But I give my clone marines a chance to leave. I don't use slaves.

I'm taking my Galaxy and getting as far away from you nutters as possible. The ship's fairly self-sufficient, given some improvisation; time to go explorin'. Weave through the local powers' territories, find myself an unclaimed swath of space, and start the adventure.

I would try and get my hands on some people willing to form a task force to test the waters and look for occupy-able systems to exploit for the home planet. With my personal goal being fame gathering so I can get a nice, high paying, little effort, job in the coming intergalactic government.

In that case, I'd prefer to head off and explore alone, but an attack ship's not the best for that role. I'll probably stick around the mods and admins for protection from the Dominion, Borg, rouge board members, and every local power who will see my Jem-Hadar ship and think "kill!" Not sure what I'd do about crew. I hate using guys who are, essentially, my slaves.Zor wrote:Your crew and the marines are loyal to you first and the rest of the lot second. Just call me Admiral Bean, Notorious Smuggler, Privateer and gun for hire of the Federation and failing that, I'll find the sanest local power and rent myself out as a system defense fleet. Also I will find the bat shit craziest French Admiral's hat and wear it during all official actions. Lets be honest I'm flying the equivalent of a natural gas fuel airplane. Sure it's fast and pretty well armed but fighting is going to get me killed.

I wonder if I could sell my Jem-Hadar ship to someone and purchase a vessel and crew more to my tastes? Besides, being in a Dominion ship is an invitation to get shot at. I might even end up accidentally triggering a new Dominion War.
So I probably sell my ship at the first opportunity, and try to get hold of something better. Some powers with hostile feelings towards the Dominion might pay good money for a Dominion ship to turn over to their intelligence operations.

Can I trade my Intrepid in for something a little more, well, not Voyager? Say, a couple of defiants or a Klingon Destroyer-Analog Bird of Prey?
Also, seeing as we have access to top of the line Romulan Warships, do we all have access to cloaking technology?

Re: SD.net Starfleet (RAR!)
A Defiant and a hundred marines is a pretty sweet deal (although, aren't Defiant-class ships supposed to hold far less personnel than that?) Too bad that my little ship doesn't have a holodeck. Anyway, if 'we' act reasonable enough, I'll take an explorers job for the Greater SDN Solar Imperium or whatever we call ourselves; if not, I'll do the same except for the Federation. Cataloguing gaseous anomalies in the Beta Quadrant seems like a pretty safe way to ride out the inevitable shit-storm that's going to descend upon local space in the wake of our arrival .

Are you kidding? Guns and swords? We have just become the premiere anti-Borg force in the Galaxy! The Federation will be buying us all the hookers and blow we want to save them from the Borg.
I'm taking my D'deridex (you can keep your self-propelled suicide bomb Galaxy) and going Privateer, baby!
Admirals get girlies, too. It's the uniform and the pay grade.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

Effective immediately, I'm replacing both the AK-74s and P90s in my inventory with Heckler & Koch HK416s (some fitted with AG36 grenade launchers), replacing the Dragunov SVDs with Heckler & Koch HK417s, and replacing the katanas with claymores. After that, we'll see what happens. In any case, due to my membership in the PRFY, there will be liberal amounts of hookers and blow involved.

Well, with all of the dissent, Stardestroyer.Planet will not be able to wrest any sort of control over the various factions and lone wolves. So I guess I'll just have to take my attack ship and go become God to some random pre-Warp Scattered Race. Preferably a civilized* Scattered Race, but I'm not that picky, as I have the modern amenities of my ship to fall back on, simple as they may be.

Can I trade my attack ship for a Intrepid? I know voyager sucked, but the design is sound and I would rather be off exploring new worlds and pointing them in the direction of the federation when they wonder who let a planet die to preserve the (now nonexistant) culture.

With that being said, I like Coyote's idea. I wouldn't mind being part of a company of swashbuckling Borg-toasting ne'er do wells who send space stations into throes of decadence at the mere suggestion of us taking shore leave there.

Shouldn't the accents not matter thanks to the universal translators? I mean you'd just hear a digitally altered version of your crewman's voice that will sound just perfect.

As Admiral Flashheart, i'll be taking my fleet and scooting off away from you lot before the Warsies start slaughtering the Federation and the rest start slaughtering every neighbouring empire for laughs before being pummeled by a last ditch confederation. (GermanWW2 Style ).
Even if my prediction fails to unfold, I'll be laughing from a year or two's worth of travel, i'll conquer a pre-warp (or warp capable, but weak) civilization and i'll set myself up as emperor while I have fun going over the Federation Genetic engineering databanks and cloning technology. Have fun you lot
