Question about the Rebel Fleet in RotJ

Post by TheSpaceman? »

I was looking at Rebel Fleet stuff on Wookipedia and I noticed this page: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DP20_frigate

So the question is, where is this "possible appearance" of the DP20 in RotJ? I've never noticed it before. Thanks for any help you can give.

Can't imagine. I suppose their are a lot of ships in the background, so its possible, but I can't recall even hearing about this anywhere before.

pretty sure it's not in there, though if you were really interested in finding out you would have re-watched the movie instead of starting a pointless thread.

To be fair, its pretty hard to watch through that battle 50 times to try to catch every single ship in the background of every single shot. Especially if you have it on old video tapes instead of DVDs, and can't pause.

If this thread were truely pointless, wouldn't it have been locked?

True it'd be hard if you had vhs, but if you have it on DVD then you can just play it at a slow speed and pick out the ships you can see. The only ones that you wont be able to see are the ones to far off to make out. Which is where the possibly probably comes from in the wookipedia page. You can pretty much say any ship that either the rebels or the empire used is out as one of those little specks of white light. Since no one can actually see them we can't prove or disprove what's actually out there.

I kind of wish it was their. The Corillian Gunship is a favorite design of mine, and both fleets seemed short on vessels of the destroyer/escort catagory at Endor. Since the Rebellion in particular needed its fighters for offensive purposes, it would have made sense for them to bring anti-fighter escorts and a multi-purpose Corillian design would fit right in.

Yeah, the movies needed more kitbash concept-art WEG nonsense, you're right. :D All kinds of EU sources place different classes of vessel at Endor.

Yes, but those EU sources don't count if they're overruled by the film. Do we ever see the entire Rebel fleet in one shot?

How the hell is this a pointless thread? A "possible appearance" of something typically has screen caps, and it's far easier to ask for those than to sit there with a DVD of Star Wars going at 1/2 speed. So I repeat: how the hell is this a pointless thread? But thanks to those who actually tried to help.

Any ship the Rebels had in serivce would have been present at the battle, as, according to the novelization, every Rebel had gathered for the attack.

If you wanted screen caps why didn't you say "does anyone have screenies of the DP20/CEC Gunship". Maybe I am over reacting, I just found the OP rather pointless.

It would have been cool to see the Gunship, and a dozen other EU ships at Endor. Even better those VSDs and Carrack cruisers mentioned in the ROTS novelizations could have made it on screen. Thanks again GL for creating the coolest universe ever and then taking a massive shit on your legacy!

I've read most of the ROTS novelization, and I recall no VicStars and certainly no Carrack cruisers. :?

Is there a shot that shows 100% of the rebel fleet clearly enough to identify every single type? No. Thus, the EU can (under canon rules at least) insert whatever silly crap they want and simply say 'offscreen' or 'that white dot there' and done, the ship was there. :)

Which is where that "possible appearance" bit probably comes from. It could have "possibly" been there we just couldn't see it

LCDR Needa was in command of a Republic Carrack cruiser. He had stand-off of sorts with the Invisible Hand as I recall.

Which is why every goddamn game that does Endor introduces an entirely new arrangement of ships, stupid secret crap, new fighters, the player being critical etc. Turns out the EU is crazy. :)

He's in small flotilla with a couple of Dreadnaughts and three Carracks sitting in The Invisible Hand's exit vector.

As for the Vicstar, I can't remember there actually being one actually present although they are reference in the narration which claims you could lose one in an Utapaun sinkhole.

ok then they could have shown the Dreads an the carracks, since I'm not 100% on that VSD any more.

I don't think that's it. The Wookie doesn't say that about any of the other ships added in by the EU, just that one. So I'd assume there's some glimpse of it.

Going back to the novelization again, it describes all sorts of different ships ("man-o-wars," Alderaanian cruisers, etc.), comprising a fleet that stretched beyond visual range.

I remember a mention of Alderanian ships (scouts I thought though), but I don't recall any mention of "man-o-wars". Age of Sail references seem more like something you'd find in Star Trek. :?

Are they any reasonably comprehensive lists of all canon vessels at Endor? I've tried Wikipedia, Wookiepedia, and the wiki attached to these forums, but to no avail. :(

Yeah I know, that's partly why I asked you guys. I'm not sure if it's reliable or not. However, if any ship were to be there that would be it, considering it was the original Millenium Falcon.
