General reminder for everyone watching this thread what we are offering are recommendations but the actual code work for the permissions may take some time. I know its popped up in a couple places some frustration with the lack of implementation. The problem is that Mike is basically working the new edit permission rules in by hand on a new board system so please expect delays in any implementation.

OK, I finally got time to debug the edit time modification, and I think the problem was the group identification code. So I stripped it out and just put in the forum exception code, which means that anyone should be able to edit their own posts in the Fanfic or OT forums. I'm still working on figuring out why I can't make a global exception for the Senators group.

Any chance to add the other forums we've been kicking around to the exception list (STGOD, ARSE, and AMP come immediately to mind)?


Oh yes and I just checked and can edit old posts in OT, I don't have anything on the front apge of fanfics to check there but I would assume that is workign as well.

That's an easy mod. Do we have a consensus on what that list will be? Right now the exception list is (7,9) where 7 and 9 are the forum ID numbers (that's what the software understands internally) for the OT and Fanfic forums.

Off-Topic
AMP
G&C, including the subforum for STGODs
ARSE
The Senate
Testing

and I guess whatever private forums previously allowed editing (all of them?)

I think that should do the trick, unless anyone has any objections or additions.

The only one I think there isn't a solid consensus on is the main G&C. The others all have support and no objection near as I can tell. G&C we haven't really discussed much but there is at least one objection and I'm kinda iffy but don't post there really at all so I can't say if it would be worthwhile.

Just checked the ability to edit for Fanfics . . . and I noticed that I now have the ability to lock topics I've authored in that forum. Was this intentional, or a happy accident of setting the permissions?

I'd be objecting to making main G&C editable en-masse. I can see the reasoning for post-editing in the STGOD sub-forum, but I'm not seeing it for the main G&C forum. Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

7: Off-Topic
9: Fanfics
35: C&C Fanfics
14: AMP
45: STGODs
38: ARSE
42: Senate
21: Testing

Please let me know if there are any problems. I manually edited it with ssh and vi, so you never know if I slipped up

The slurping sound is a little loud over here keep it down Anyway near as I can tell my principal wish has been granted and I can edit my OOB in STGOD. I know OT and apparently Fanfic were up but can't comment on the others as I don't really have posts to speak of, or at least no desire to search back through a couple months to get to a relevant post.

Add on to Hotfoot's point I've been getting a few quesitons about G&C. If the coding work isn't too much its probably worth adding to the unlimited edit list.
