Can't import Firefox favorites

Post by Bug-Eyed Earl »

My old computer had Windows XP, my new one has Vista. Before I switched over, I backed up all of my old Firefox bookmarks via the "Import and backup" option in "Organize Bookmarks." It created a .json file named as the date I saved it. I tried to import it on my laptop, and it worked fine. But on my new computer, using the same method, nothing happens. I know I'm doing it right because it worked on the laptop(which is much slower than my new computer). Also, despite the fact that after looking under "options" to see if it is saving my history and seeing that Firefox is currently set to save the websites I've been to for 90 days, after I close Firefox, it forgets every site I've been to

It does auto-complete for the two sites I have bookmarked so far, so I supposed I could start bookmarking again, but that's a lot of bookmarks to make. If I bookmark a message board, it will auto-complete for the forum home page, but not for the sub-forum I usually go to. So the two problems are that 1) it won't import my bookmarks, and 2) it won't save my history except for bookmarks.

I checked to make sure I have default administrative capabilities when I log on as myself. I had things set up so I never had to log on on my old computer (which was set by someone else), and now I have to log on after I'm away for too long, so if I torrent something, I usually set a video to play while I'm away so that won't happen. I don't know if that is the cause.

IIRC, Firefox allows you ti import and export bookmarks as a webpage. It's a bit of a kludge, but it might work to get your bookmarks from the laptop to the Vista PC. As for the other issue, I've no experience of Vista, sorry.
"So you want to live on a planet?"
"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"
