Problem with iTunes

I got itunes on my new computer. My old one had XP; this one has Vista. Now, when I try to change the info for a track via "Get Info," the box is all greyed out and I can't enter anything.

I've tried everything detaialed here:

Every time I click Properties on the Folder, the "read only" Box is filled with a smaller box instead of a check mark, and it always has the box in it, no matter how many times I click it. Can anyone help me with this? I'm betting this is more of a Vista poroblem than an itunes problem.

Did you copy your library from XP directly? I've seen Vista 'decide' that certain files aren't yours - you can resolve that by going into security in the properties menu and either changing the owner or opening up the rights to other users. If that's the problem, that'll fix it.

All my music is on an external hard drive, so I simply moved it from one PC to the other. I've never had to deal with security settings on my PC, so if you give me an explanation as the process you just mentioned, I can try it and get back to you on it.

Okay, if you right click -> properties on the folder, you should go to the 'security' tab and see a window showing the 'rights' different users and groups have to access the folder. The easiest way to fix this (and this isn't security-sensitive stuff or I wouldn't recommend it) is to click on edit, then set 'all users' from the list to 'full control' on the tick boxes so that basically anything goes. If Vista isn't letting you edit the file information due to user rights, this will fix it.

I just tried that, and it said:

"An error occurred while applying security information to (file name)." I clicked OK, and it started to go down the list for every file in the folder, saying the same thing.

Take ownership of the files, then modify the permissions.

Ownership settings are in security too, 'advanced' -> owner tab -> edit.
