Guilt

Post by Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi »

Whenever you do something for your own benefit, do you ever get these huge pangs of guilt and regret? For me, I get a lot of that. Whenever I do something like fake a sickness to get out of something, I'm crying over doing it later, wishing I had done "the right thing".

Also, whenever someone wnts me to do something, I don't want to let them down, so I end up doing it, making me easy ot manipulate. For example, inviting people for my birthday party I was planning, I ended up getting about double the origional list from people that invited themselves and said they wanted to be invided right after hearing of it.

Does anyone else have problems like that?

Guilt, like many other things, is a good concept in moderation.

Ah, who needs guilt?
You did it, (whatever it is) and you can't undo it. Move on.
Of course, people who rape and kill need lots of guilt.

Push down a little old lady then steal candy from a baby or small child. When you've completed this cackle widly for a few minutes and go and wallow in your own crapulence.

When i was in High School, i always left my homework for over the weekend till Monda morning, On a sunday i sat about and scratched my ass. Now every Sunday, even nearly 5 years after i left school, i feel like i should be doing something and i'm not doing it.

I am also used to being wrong. so when i'm accused to something i always go in the back foot and wonder if i might have done it and forgotten.

Nope. Because every time I do something for myself it's because I wanted to do it for a while, and it doesn't always just benefit me. Plus, it makes me feel better if it IS something I do for myself. Which isn't often.

Interestingly enough, when I fuck with someone I don't know or don't like, there's no guilt at all. For the people I don't know, it's "Tough titty, said the kitty" and for those I hate, it's "Serves you right, fucktard"

But when I accidentally mess with someone I know and don't particularly hate, I find myself scrambling to make amends immediately.

How odd.

I learned something from one of the greatest teachers I've ever had, Ric Loya, who's currently the Mayor of Huntington Park, California. I was always fascinated by his ability to give a direct, quick answer to anything. I'd want to go film something off campus, and before I even got the proposal out of my mouth, he'd say, "No" and that was that!

He told me he was a fan of Jack Lemmon and admired him, and learned that Lemmon would say the very first thing that came to his mind and then stick to his decision. No hemming or hawing over an issue.

What your problem is, is that you can't assert yourself, and its tearing you up inside. If you don't want to do something or go somewhere, SAY SO. If someone asks you for an answer, give the honest one! Don't worry about their feelings; because there's a hell of a lot of people out there that aren't worried about yours, and that's your job anyway.

The same thing applies to not inviting people. Tell them they weren't invited because they pull shit like coming to a party they aren't invited to!
