SGA 5x16: Brainstorm

Post by FireNexus »

Good episode, but doesn't the government have access to an essentially unlimited quantity of carbon-free energy in the form of naquadah? It seems like the characters in the know are essentially ignoring this fact.
I had a Bill Maher quote here. But fuck him for his white privelegy "joke".

All the rest? Too long.

Outside of any logic or reason, this was Rodney McKay kicking ass, taking names, and getting the girl. If you like Rodney, it's a great episode; if you hate him, it's awful. I happen to like him.

I think the best thing in the episode was Bill Nye calling 'dibs' on Dr. Keller. The runner-up was him slapping Dave Foley.

I was a little puzzled as to why he didn't take an axe to the ICE, since that would've been a bit easier to break.

Given the fall of the Goa'uld, wouldn't there we an abundance of naquadah mines out there ripe for the taking?

Would be a little difficult to explain to the public how this element not natural to Earth is available in abundance and will save the world (I mean lives).

They need to make the SGC public first really.

If the people of earth are so damn stupid as to have a fleet of space battleships operate right under their noses, and their governments go from backwater planet to galactic superpower and toppler of multiple ancient regimes and still not realise what's up, I don't think an abundant source of magic free energy would concern them much, especially as they're getting direct benefits this time.

There's also an abundance of jaffa out there running around in ha'taks and building a prosperous civilization, who also need that stuff. And have the contacts to get it.

I happen to like McKay (finding him one of the only reasons I still watch the show) but that doesn't always guarantee a good episode. This, on the other hand, was a good episode. I would put it up there with one of the best of the season. It was a "fun" episode which also had the benefit of allowing McKay some character growth and didn't have a reset button at the end or didn't have Keller at the end running away screaming from McKay, realizing her mistake. It took elements from a previous concept without making it a total rehash, and had plenty of humor to go around. I also enjoyed Bill Nye and Neil Tyson's inclusion.

All and all, one of the strongest episodes this season that, for me, hearkened back to the good old days of SG1.
It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.

Very good episode. Although I do like to see the Rodney ones.

The SGC's naquadah reactor really has too many rough edges to be a comercial design. It is fine a military implementation, but trying to get a backpack sized reactors which can generate multi-kiloton explosions on an overload as a civilian reactor will be interesting.

Although the whole love triangle with Ronon was the hight of failure, I do like seeing Rodney get the girl.

I also think one of the reasons that he did the TNG cameo was that he was a huge fan of the original (at least I'm pretty sure that's the story). He may just be too busy to become a fan of TV shows now, let alone do a cameo.

Personally, I think Bill Nye should have had a cameo and just a cameo, but that's just me. I did like his "I'm an engineer, I can do math" line though.

Okay, this episode was made of win. It was hilarious, dramatic, and altogether fun.

This episode will be totally worth it if we get to see Sheppard and Ronan walking by Kellers quarters at the start of the next episode just as Rodney walks out. Bonus points if they make it obvious that its first thing in the morning.

I got the giggles every single time Bill Nye went into "educational!" mode, as if from sheer force of habit every time he opens his mouth he has to start teaching everybody. At least until Dr. Keller said, "Now's not the time!"

And later, slap!
