Does anybody still have one of the older versions of the map, without some of the labels? It'd probably be easier to recolor those. As well as being useful for making a bit of a smaller map but still being able to read the country names.

It'd probably be good as well to replace the Border States inset with a Velaria inset.

Why didn't anybody just ask me for the GIMP file with all labels, countries, insets and such as separate layers? :D

Would that be compatible with PSP8 I wonder? Or if GIMP is free I could suck it up and have a second program...

And I knew somebody had it, but I didn't remember if it was you, Marina, or a third mapmaker I seem to remember us having before.

I'm not sure, but GIMP is free and rather unobtrusive. Me and Marina both have a copy of the file, and there was no third mapmaker :D

Another question is just what military threat your legislators thinks merits maintaining biowar stocks? Shepistan is gone. The Old Dominion has no rival and if your defense options need anything it's the means to maintain your expansion and combat any mutated strains of bio-agents that might spring up in the affected zones.

CSR for one.

For another, the lesson from Shepistan wasn't "OMG we better hide and not rock the boat!" It was "Man, bioweapons are effective."

Well, I would point out that given that the organisation behind the treaty isn't fully there, and that OD just rejected the treaty, there's a very high chance of the treaty ending in utter failure. For now, the SNC will watch and wait (or at least the smaller members) but yeah...

Technically, Japanistan still exists, too. It would be unrealistic, in-character, to ignore them just because we know that OOC Skimmer isn't involved anymore.

And there's probably some paranoia about ever-running unknowns in such places as Khitan, Frequesne, and the Archipelago. Small bands of politicians from various Nationalist-Defense Hawk parties will want to maintain superiority over anything that could 'potentially' rise up.

One does not just "switch off" the culture of a country that has spent the last several hundred years in a semi-war footing. :)

We all signed it, insofar as I know.

PS: As far as I'm concerned you can just assume you're now a fully accredited FTO member. We've got a joint air and naval command (JNAC) set up with its headquarters in Indhopal. You're probably not very interested in the naval part, but you could contribute to the aerial bit quite a lot I'd think. Radar coverage of the interior is probably something we don't have much of right now.

Right, which is why Wilkonia is trying to pressure the OD into acceptance. If IRT and Japanistan are the only major players who are not signatories then it becomes much easier to push minor nations into accepting, conversely if the OD is seen as rejecting it so that the MESS can have biowepaons while the majority keep their hands clean then the whole thing falls down after I've spent several millions of dollars getting the first round of survey teams set up.

Total aside but after the MESS conference the first wave of inspections should be kicking off. I'm making a Cascadian head of the Agency since they would have tons of prestige after the Astarian "cure."

Also treaty page updated to reflect Steve and Ryan's acceptance of the treaty, Steve's acceptance obviously being older but I just kept forgeting to update the thread.

Hmm. Does FASTA have any use for aerospace scientists? We can also produce parts.

Forgive my supreme ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by processing and reprocessing? My reactors currently work with natural uranium. My mines, altogether, can produce about 150 tonnes* of uranium a year, and my nuclear plants go through about three quarters of that.* How much can you handle?

Bioweapons treaty has Miratian support, for whatever its worth.

*If these figures are unreasonable, I'll willingly correct them. I'm having difficulty finding useful means of calculating the fuel requirements of a nuclear power plant.

Wilkens bringing up the Q-cure reminds me that aside from Stas saying "they're both dead and leave it there" and a poll indicating that about half to two-thirds of players wanted the bio-attack either retconned or blunted by the Q-cure, there's been pretty much no wrap-up for Astaria and even Japanistan post-Pathogen War.

If I were to sit down and write a wrap-up that covers the ultimate fate of the sovereign nation of Astaria as well as their South Velerian alliance and what's been going on in Japanistan, could we just accept it and not have a short argument that results in everyone basically doing as they please? *gives a sardonic look at SiegeTank bringing back up the "ZOMBIE" stuff*

It was when Shep, Skimmer, and Veg left the game, me too for a bit. Basically a bunch of us were working to undermine Astaria, which still practiced chattel slavery, and Shep decided to just be done with it and demanded Norseman surrender or he'd be subjected to overwhelming bio-warfare attack. Norse tried to undercut the issue of slavery by having his IC self abuse war powers to order the nationalization of all slaves, from which they could be emancipated over time (and any foreign nationals held could be found and freed), but Shep deemed that unacceptable and launched an all-out bio-attack with air and sub assets. Hence the "Pathogen War". And one of his posts relating to that involved the viruses mutating and some turning people into "zombies".

Fin, I haven't written it yet, I wanted to see if people would be okay with me doing so. I can start tonight and tomorrow.

I like the idea of a "28-Days-Later" type pathogen, where they're not truly "zombies" (ie, walking dead people) but basically hyper-adrenal, enraged people going on maximum angry brain chemistry. It can be an interesting side plot for a bit. Imagine an astronaut on a failed orbit that has to crash land... uh-oh...
