Fran Drescher for Senate

There is no God!
Fran Drescher: Senate Seat Should Be Mine

According to New York magazine, "The Nanny" star Fran Drescher wants Hillary Clinton's Senate seat:

Fran Drescher wants to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate. She says she's qualified. "I've just been given the appointment of U.S. diplomat," she said at a party for Le Cirque: A Table in Heaven at that restaurant on December 3. "My title is public diplomacy envoy for women's health issues, and I just got back from a four-country European tour of duty. I believe next I'll be sent to the Middle East." ... What else makes her a good candidate? "I'm an authentic and honest person," she said. "And I think Capitol Hill needs more of that."
Mediabistro adds that "Drescher has considered her run before but has never quite made the leap." In fact, US News & World Report quotes her voicing her interest way back in 2007:

Her activism began grimly, when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. ... Along the way, she says she won first lady Laura Bush's help and was rewarded with a nomination to be a special U.S. envoy on women's health issues. Her appointment is stuck in the usual bureaucracy, but she swears there are no skeletons in her closet. "I'm a good girl, I am," she says. Her further political goal: being a New York senator. "If Hillary wins," she tells us of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, "I want that seat!"
Really, just... what?!

There is precisely one movie scene with Fran Drescher that I enjoyed: ho-ho-ho.

She should be asking about the Illinois seat instead, I hear it's availiable if you've got a few extra bucks.

She could be an ambassador to a post-Soviet European micro-nation ruled by a dictatorial Stalin-impersonating Timothy Dalton.

I'm surprised the Republicans haven't been courting her. Even against a Democrat-filled senate, a filibuster by Ms. Drescher would be a lethal weapon.

If Drescher started filibustering the entire Senate, regardless of political affiliation, would instantly vote for cloture.

Followed by execution.

FUN FACT:

If used in combat, Fran Drescher's laugh is considered a warcrime.

But, serious WTF. Being a "good person" and a womans rights something or other in Europe as photo-op bait doesn't exactly qualify one as a Senator. Grrr, this is why I hate celebrities thinking popularity = skill.

Honestly when Caroline Kennedy, who basically stayed on the sidelines of the last 20 years of Democratic fights against the Far Right, is being talked about as the leading contender for the seat one can easily guess that political involvement and support for Democratic party principals is not exactly the leading selection criteria.

Not that I don' like Caroline Kennedy but she's basically trying to waltz in at the top without having done any work in the trenches.

I seem to recall hearing something about her being in a porno when she was younger - could this come back and bite her, do you think?

Maybe. But then again, she could get Spinal Tap to hold a concert for her, so it'd probably cancel out. :P

I've never heard of her doing porn.

I did a google check, and she has never done one. Topless scenes yes, but no porn.
