David Walliams for the 11th Doctor?
David Tennant is leaving his role soon, so he's going leave quite a big vacuum after being in the role for a longish time, but David Walliams has been seriously considered for the role of the 11th Doctor? Full story here.

David Walliams in frame to become 11th Doctor Who
Bookmakers have slashed the odds on David Walliams replacing David Tennant as the new Doctor Who after a flurry of bets.

The Little Britain comedian apparently sparked the betting frenzy after admitting he would accept the role if it was offered.
He has admitted he is a fan of the cult BBC series, and has even appeared in audio productions of the show.
He was also rumoured to have turned down the offer of writing an episode for the second series of the programme.
The 37-year-old was on the shortlist to take over as the timelord before Tennant.
William Hill, the bookmakers, have now slashed the odds on him being the next Doctor.
His odds have been cut from 33-1 to just 8-1.
Meanwhile Paddy Power and Ladbrokes have suspended betting on who will take over from 37-year-old Tennant.
Rupert Adam, a spokesman for William Hill, said: "We had a bit of money suddenly put on David Walliams 15 days ago and then we had a flood of bets.
"His name had come out of the blue but these are quite significant moves in the market."
Other names to have been put forward for the role include Cold Feet star James Nesbitt and Paterson Joseph who played Mark Grace in Casualty.
Life on Mars star John Simm and his co-star David Morrisey have also been linked to the role, along with Notting Hill star Rhys Ifans and Catherine Tate.
Re: David Walliams for the 11th Doctor?
Some of the names suggested are over the top. John Simms can't be the doctor unless can provide a very strong rationale why the Doctor would take a form of the Master. Similarly, Catherine Tate is inextricably linked to Donna Noble.
James Nesbitt would be a great choice.

You forgot about Chancellery Guard Commander Maxil (Colin Baker) and the Doctor's later regeneration (Colin Baker) into a form very much like Maxil's. There is precedent. Though I would not be too keen on seeing Simm as the Doctor.B5B7 wrote:Some of the names suggested are over the top. My vote would still go for this gentleman:
Robert Lindsay, best known as Capt. Edward Pellew from the Horatio Hornblower telefilm series and (seen here) as Det. Inspector Michael Jericho.

Actually, he's probably better known as the hapless dad from the My Family sitcom. Hornblower is a bit more... niche.Robert Lindsay, best known as Capt. Edward Pellew from the Horatio Hornblower telefilm series

As for the OP, I hope not. A proper actor please.

mm....personally, I think Simon Pegg would make an awesome Doctor. That's just my opinion - it's just kind of, in my mind's eye, he's about the perfect mixture of Tennant and Eccleston - two of the very best Doctor's in my opinion. (Behind Baker, of course)

He's too busy being Scotty, anyway.Chardok wrote:mm....personally, I think Simon Pegg would make an awesome Doctor. I always thought Alan Davies would be a great Doctor, though it'd probably seem more like him being typecast if he played it as I expected.
Re: David Walliams for the 11th Doctor?
Now if Pegg plays the Doctor the same way he acted as Shaun in Shaun of the Dead, it would make DW quite interesting.Chardok wrote:mm....personally, I think Simon Pegg would make an awesome Doctor. Actually, I think he'd be better playing the Doc in a way similar to Tim Bisley.
Which means he needs Jess Hynes as his companion.

None of these are nearly as good as Paterson Joseph, to my mind.
Yes, but to be fair, Simm's master is a much more major character.Patrick Degan wrote:You forgot about Chancellery Guard Commander Maxil (Colin Baker) and the Doctor's later regeneration (Colin Baker) into a form very much like Maxil's. There is precedent.

True, but so was Astra in "The Armageddon Factor", and Romana regenerated into Lalla Ward in the very next serial. Besides, the effect on the Doctor of waking up looking like his worst enemy would be...interesting, to say the least.

Please... If you can say that about a throwaway scene, you must not like half of what's been done in the programme the last four decades or so.NecronLord wrote:And it was one of the most spine wrenchingly awful cringe-worthy moments in 40 years of Doctor Who. Re: David Walliams for the 11th Doctor?
The whole serial was entirely rotten. It brought back Davros, reduced the daleks to robots with no creativity (literally none), introduced another, laughably dressed, race of robots to defeat them, whose brains could be scrambled by a dog whistle, and who wore their brains on their belts so they could be removed and reprogrammed with pin switches on the side...Patrick Degan wrote:Please... Retarded behaviour from established enemies, retarded behaviour from the companion, retarded behaviour from the new enemies... And finally, bizzare, mad, behaviour from Davros, too.
Destiny of the Daleks was entirely too Hitchhikers. While some stuff later (and now) sucks just as hard, it at least, as a rule, tries to be dramatic. Destiny verges into outright parody.
The single best thing about that serial is Romana's pink outfit. And... that's about it.

Re: David Walliams for the 11th Doctor?
Granted, the way the regeneration was handled was probably a bit too humor oriented, along with the rest of the serial, but Time Lords having a say in their regeneration wasn't without precedent even then. Troughton's Doctor was offered a choice at the end of Troughton's run, though he rejected all of them. Presumably whatever let them shape his regeneration was at work in the Romana Regeneration.

Re: David Walliams for the 11th Doctor?
The stupidity of that regeneration is not in that she could shape it (though there was none of the usual pyrotechnics and disorientation). It's that as far as we can tell, Romana threw away one of her lives for the sheer sake of being bored and raising a chuckle. It had already been established that time lords had a limited number of lives.Ryushikaze wrote:Granted, the way the regeneration was handled was probably a bit too humor oriented, along with the rest of the serial, but Time Lords having a say in their regeneration wasn't without precedent even then. Hell, as far as it's presented in the episode, she used up about six in taking on random different forms to adjust to taste.
It was Adams' first serial as script editor, and it shows. Fortunately, his later work in the series was immensely superior.

Heh heh. Poor K9. Always getting written out of stories because of location shooting problems.

Re: David Walliams for the 11th Doctor?
I dunno... if "location issues" required sitting out something like The Power of Kroll, I'd be quite happy with that.
Having said that though, the problem in The Leisure Hive wasn't so much location filming (IIRC there was only about five or so minutes of it at the start of the story, and everything else was done in-studio) as JNT's borderline psychotic hatred of K-9, which resulted in him being horribly smashed apart, broken or blown up in just about every S18 story until his exit from the show later in that season.

You could handwave in Catherine Tate because there was that human/time-lord Meta-Crisis during the thing with the Master, and perhaps there was some DNA contamination or... something.

Re: David Walliams for the 11th Doctor?
David Walliams does not seem suitable for playing the Doctor, but I wouldn't mind at all if he turned up in Doctor Who as a villain or something, he seems more suited to playing a bad guy.
