Department of Faith-Based Hookers
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus police arrested a man they say was responsible for a Web site where customers could post reviews of prostitutes.
Robert Eric McFadden is accused of trading information about online escorts and prostitutes who worked the streets, including a 17-year-old girl. Police say he also helped organize a $10-a-ticket raffle that offered an evening with a prostitute.
The 46-year-old McFadden was arrested Wednesday and faces numerous charges, including compelling prostitution involving a minor.
No attorney for McFadden was listed with the Franklin County Jail.
McFadden formerly served as director of the Faith-Based and Community Initiatives office under Gov. Ted Strickland. He was transferred to a job with the state prisons department in 2007 and laid off in March 2008 due to budget cuts.

Yup, the job attracts just about the grade of moral giants you'd expect.

Not really. You are just used to the idea that there is a correlation between faith and morality. That misconception will fade in time.Zixinus wrote:You can't make this shit up. This is too surreal for words.

Re: Department of Faith-Based Hookers
So what's the crime? The raffle I can see, but reviews of hookers? What's wrong with that?
Re: Department of Faith-Based Hookers
well the fact that one of them was 17 kinda plays into it a bitStark wrote:So what's the crime? The raffle I can see, but reviews of hookers? What's wrong with that?

Re: Department of Faith-Based Hookers
Yeah, so soliciting minors; but the article starts with 'lol article with reviews of hookers', which isn't the issue at all.
Re: Department of Faith-Based Hookers
Yeah, that was my question. Apperently, according to the article, the crime is: including compelling prostitution involving a minor. What ever the fuck that is, can't wait to see what happens to that in court, not that I want people egging on assholes to fuck a kid, but really; compelling prostitution?Stark wrote:So what's the crime? Another article with a bit more info...
---
COLUMBUS — Gov. Ted Strickland's former director of faith-based initiatives faces seven felony prostitution charges, including some involving minors, according to Franklin County Jail records.
Robert Eric McFadden, 46, of Dublin, was arrested by Columbus police on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
"Obviously, this is a very sad, shocking and appalling situation," said Keith Dailey, Strickland's press secretary.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said police believe McFadden operated and promoted a prostitution ring run through Craigslist, an online buying, selling and swapping service.
Two arrests were made two months ago involving the case and further undercover work led police to McFadden, O'Brien said.
McFadden has been involved in Democratic politics, working for Catholics for Kerry in 2004, Catholic Alliance for the Common Good in 2006, and Sen. Hillary Clinton's primary bid last year. Strickland appointed him to head the Office on Faith-based Initiatives, a post McFadden held from February 2007 to October 2007.
Dailey said, "He was not a good fit for the role... It was a mutually agreed to decision that the position wasn't working out for him."
He faces two counts of promoting prostitution, two counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, two counts of pandering obscenity involving a nude minor and one count of compelling prostitution, O'Brien said.
He is due in court today, Jan. 15.
According to McFadden's resume on file with Strickland's office, he majored in criminology at Ohio State University.

I guess even if they're streetwalkers and that's illegal, they could argue it's 'promoting' crime in the same way, say, a site about awesome graffiti might do so?Knife wrote:Yeah, that was my question. But hey, turns out he was in this balls-deep, so the first article was just a bit misleading in tone (ie 'lol site reviews hookers').

Re: Department of Faith-Based Hookers
I've got no idea, since I know even less abotu American prostitution law than Australian. However the second article suggests that the website is peripheral to the fact that they've linked him to actual prostitution; in this context the review website isn't just an amusing jape but possibly directly linked to a craigslist-based prostitution ring (assuming they can actually tie him to it).Knife wrote:So compelling prostitution is really an accessory to the crime?

You'd think that's be one of the first things you check.

I meant the, *ahem* Pimp should check that stuff, because of all the extra shit you get into once Sexual Misconduct With A Minor comes into play.ArmorPierce wrote:Right, because the john will ID the hooker.SAMAS wrote:You'd think that's be one of the first things you check.

Again, that's assuming they don't just think they'll never get caught, or don't give a fuck about that.

Re: Department of Faith-Based Hookers
Which, as with every other offense involving minors, doesn't change a damn thing. Its the responsibility of an adult to know if someone is a minor or not, it isn't the responsibility of a minor to identify themselves as such (excepting of course attemtpting to do so through forgery or falisification of documents and records). Obviously in this case the act is illegal but the fault for not checking still lies with the adult not the minor.ArmorPierce wrote:I got a feeling that they guy might have not even known there was a minor involved in this.Ender wrote:well the fact that one of them was 17 kinda plays into it a bitStark wrote:So what's the crime?
