It's supposed to break down into three loads; gun, tripod and generator. Given that the SW equivalent of a Javelin/Stinger launcher has a built-in mini-repulsorlift, I would not be surprised if the E-Web components do (at least the generator, which looks really heavy). The bulk would still be awkward but it would explain how infantry can take one with them on an assault into a hostile base.

Slight nitpick, the PLX-2M fired repulsor drive missiles, the launcher tube itself wasn't repulsor equipped or if it was isn't stated as such- but yes, I can't think of any reason why it couldn't be that way.

Actually, if they can miniaturise a repulsor unit to fit in a shoulder-fired missile and still have it put out enough power to push something at low- supersonic speed, it seems less demanding if anything to produce a long duration low power unit to make something as heavy as a what, 0.1m3 generator more portable.

If a crew served weapon counts as a smallarm, then fine, it's feasible. I wish we'd seen it actually fire; we know they expected it to be useful against the Falcon, but it's pegged largely through RPG material and the books which use that as source as an anti- infantry weapon.

I personally rationalise this by assuming that it's anti armour use consists of sustained fire of reliably man-killing but not individually antivehicle bolts against a specific point on the target, burning through by repeated impact. This is largely a guess though.

The rebel medium MGs from the trenches at Hoth look a lot less clumsy, possibly only a two man crew, gun and tripod together. Probably not as zappy.

:banghead: Sten, Sterling, Sten, Sterling, know the difference dumbass! D'oh!

You're right of course, the Sten is way too plumbing appliance-looking to be a Wars gun.

I don't like either the Sten or the Sterling because they feed magazines from the left side of the receiver; I'm left-handed and can't support the magazine with my off hand, so they fuck up my aim.

The Bren .303 LMG, now...that would make a kick-ass Wars gun! Way better than the dressed-up Lewis MG that stormtrooper in the white was carrying on Tatooine.

Ah, right. I was looking at an older source; the PLX-2M seems to have been written up as a much more capable device in the NEGWT than it was to begin with.

That capability got added, the power and variety of the rounds it fires was uprated, it got more magazine capacity.

The built-in repulsor thing is useful to know. Presumably not a unique capability- too useful on other heavy and crew- served weapons.

Actually, wouldn't that help with recoil control, by increasing the effective weight of the weapon to soak up the kick? Not exactly keep-it-simple, but possible, possibly?

Vice versa, lighten it to make it easier to traverse0 theres an interesting wrinkle in there. I like it.

Lightsaber nunchuks. An awesomely retarded idea that began as a bad nerd joke and is now canon.

Rule of cool, indeed.

Isn't this due to Battlefront 2's game mechanics? After all, this is the same game where V-wings are the bombers while ARC-170s are fighters for the Republic, and the Rebels use Republic LAAT/i gunships as troop transports in space.

While it's really really really LOW canon (or was last time I checked LFL's canon policy) unless it's overridden by HIGHER canon, it stays. And it's not like that's the first time an asininely stupid idea wormed its way into the canon.
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

I liked the E-5 seen in use by B1 battle droids. Apparently around as powerful as the clone trooper rifle and obviously more maneuverable, but less accurate.

What are you talking about? Styrofoam rocks are the ultimate weapons when you are attacking an entire legion of the Emporer's "best" stormtroopers.

Either Han's DL-44 or the trusty E-11. Remember, when wielded by the right people, the E-11 is as accurate as a sniper rifle.

I like the E-11, simple workable blaster. It's like the AK-47 of blasters.

No way. No way in hell. I can't get down on the Bren, but the Lewis is boss hog. I would join the Stormtroopers just so I can Belgian Rattlesnake some rebel ass. (That sounds so wrong.)

Other than that, the A280 for there's little topping the StG44. Star Wars makes it hard, though, because all of the best-looking small arms (ie the ones in the movies, and particularly the OT) are vismodded guns that are cool in real life. So there's a little bit of cheating going on there too.

That brings up an idea for an interesting project - taking some more modern rifles and "Star-Wars-izing" them, especially with weapons from the 50's and 60's. It'd be cool to see a modified M16 or FN FAL, although a Korobov would just be plain lazy.

I'd find doing that a lot of fun. They didn't need to use much custom machining, most of them were just put together out of mismatched parts; a visit to any well-stocked home hardware or an automotive shop should cover pretty much everything, but right now I haven't got a gun and I haven't got the time or money for one, I've been swamped with so many other things, plus I've already been working on my lightsabers. No sense in starting one project when I already have one going.
