Why do people hate midi-chlorians so much? So it was a bit of technobabble. Big deal. Most SW fans would agree that TESB is the best of the OT, yet it has the most technobabble when Han is desprately trying to repair the Falcon just prior to entering the asteroid field.
Aluvial dampers? Argh, thats not it, bring me the hydrospaners!
How come no one has any complaints about this but midi-chlorians seems nearly unforgiveable?

I don't quite agree that ESB was using technobabble. In my experience, technobabble comes down to usage: is the term dropped naturally, or is it used to "explain" or, even worse, pretend to sound scientific. For example, from Apollo 13 (great movie, BTW), Houston expresses concern about the middle gimbal. This leads Hanks' character to remark "Freddo, inform Houston I'm well aware of the goddamn gimbals! I don't need to hear the obvious, I got the frappin' eight ball right in front of me!" In this case, nobody makes any attempt to explain what the heck a gimbal is to the audience, just that it's important to not go tumbling off into space. Same kind of thing in SF; use your made up terms in a way that lets the audience grasp the gist without stopping and explaining. When Han goes through the ship it's no different than going to your mechanic (if you've ever had that fun experience) and having him rattle off something you don't know and tell you you need something you don't understand ("Yeah, I'm gonna need a 3/17-inch Unfastened Huck Bolt. That'll be expensive.").Darth Servo wrote:Why do people hate midi-chlorians so much? So it was a bit of technobabble. Big deal. Contrast this with the "reverse the polarity of the neutron flow" bit and it sounds far more natural.

I'm actually tempted to vote for lucas. If you take one look at B&B's work, you pretty much already know you're going to get shlock. You expect them to be crappy.
Not exactly the case with George, though. George is the equivelant to a 31 year old starting pitcher in the Major Leagues who had one of the best fast balls around in his youth, but has since lost it. Now he's hanging on thanks mostly to his well-established reputation, and pulling out all sorts of cheap gimmicks to get by (jar jar binks stands out as proof to this). While everybody's hoping against hope he can make a come back, the guy is obviously done. In baseball, it would be only a matter of time before said pitcher gets sent to the minors and eventually opts for retirement, but with George, he's gonna be around as long as he wants to stay around.
B&B are simply minor leaguers that got promoted when they weren't ready. George is a former ace who's lost his best stuff.

I don't know how anybody can compare the two at all. GL is at best a damn good writer. B&B at best are the worst writers of all time.

Lucas could never create the nightmare that B&B (aka: the f*ckup fairies)
forged from the pits of Hell.
forged from the pits of Hell.
Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.
Yet what he creates tends to be total shit. Example: Ode to Spot.
Purely subjective. Believe it or not, there are people who like that poem.
There are people who like to eat shit too. Those people are idiots.- Darth Servo and Bounty.

There can be no comparison. B&B are clearly the spawns of Satan.

You know...I never seen Braga in the credits of any show lol.
Rick Berman was the person that I know of.
I wish I was older like now when I watched voyager and DS9.....cause then I can see the bullshit as they are.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

A pox on both their houses, so far as I'm concerned.

Why are we still going over this topic? You already know the right answer.

You know, I agree, and this has been bothering me. Where the hell does Braga stand if he appears nowhere in the credits?Soontir C'boath wrote:You know...I never seen Braga in the credits of any show lol.

Good question? He seems to be the silent partner. Maybe he wants Berman to take all of the shit when Enterprise gets canceled?Zaku-chan wrote:You know, I agree, and this has been bothering me.
