L4D mod ideas.

Post by Pulp Hero »

I've been playing L4D the last few days, and I'm already itching for some modding.

This realism mod has some things that are attractive, but I've heard it instals like crap and having no flashlight is a big downside.

I'm not a modder, but this is something I'd like to see in mod or patch form:

- M16 has three round burst and 30 round magazine.
- Red dot laser to replace in-game cross hairs.
- Ability to bring up iron sights/optics, which increases accuracy while slowly the character down. Along with this, more inaccuracy while shooting from the hip.
- Ammunition is measured in remaining magazines (except for shotguns) and instead of big ammo piles you find boxes of shells/magazines as random items.
- Fewer or no special zombies. (except for the witch, who should be much more powerful. It ridiculous how much people are scared of her, but how weak she is.)
- Sprint button.
- "Special" weapons scattered on the map with no ammo reloads- stuff like an M-79 with a few extra rounds, a flare gun that attracts zombies (like the pipe bomb does) or a SAW with a single drum.
- Some day time maps. I look the eerie look of zombies in the day (ref: 28 Weeks Later (epecially the very beginning) or the very end of Slither.)

Would these be difficult to impliment, and would they make gameplay better?

I'm doubtful that making the weapons inaccurate without using the sights would be any fun in a game where most of the time the players are running around trying to avoid dozens of fast-moving zombies for a good portion of the level. The game relies either on spraying into a mob or split-second shots for self-defense against single zombies that take players by surprise. I have never once played a round of L4D where standing still and taking careful aim actually helped more than it hindered except when taking potshots at long range. The same goes for the M16. A 3-round burst won't take down many zombies, and only having ten "shots" would be pretty damn frustrating when facing down a horde.

The special weapons, however, should definately be implemented. The current weapons are already getting dull.

I'm mostly thinking in terms of a niche mod with stuff that drastically changes current gameplay.

What about iron sights combined with slower, but more durable zombies?
