Which Boba Fett do you like better?
I grew up with the Boba Fett from the original EU, a man Formerly known as Journeyman Protector Jaster Mreel from Concord Dawn. He was a well-trained and deadly fighter, as well as an intelligent and competent Bounty Hunter. Nothing more, nothing less. He gets knocked into the sarlacc by a blind man while trying to kill a jedi, and manages to escape, (no mean feat,) losing only a leg.
To him, The Mandalorian Armor, in addition to being a virtual Swiss Army Suit of Doom tm is also a valuable element of psychological warfare, the armor of a long-dead race of feared warriors. This Fett is Cold, Deadly, and has his own, twisted code of honor. (Getting a message to Bria Tharen's Father about her death, preserving the music collection of the Butcher of Montellian Serat, etc)
He was a self-made man, and an interesting character.
Then, Lucas' depiction of Fett showed him as the young clone of an even more famous Jango Fett, in my opinion merely a way to use the "Cool Armor and Ship" again. Not very original, If you ask me. This Boba Fett is like Millions of other clones, except for the fact that he grows slowly, removing the mystery from the cool bounty hunter many of us grew up with. Later, post NJO authors made him even more wanktastically Manda-awesome, a Warrior, not a hunter, with a deep knowledge of history and hatred of Jedi, who is deep into weird, alive and well Mondo Mando culture.
I think It should be obvious which version I prefer, and I have explained why.
I'd lke to know your thoughts, Which Fett do you prefer, and why, and what did you think of the change to his backstory wrought by Lucas and co in the Prequels.

The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi Fett, which you left off the list.
Just a bad ass bounty hunter that has an itchy disintegration finger, that may or may not have history with Vader. He does jobs for Jabba, and is good enough to face down an almost Jedi, but got killed by dumb luck.

Storni Glass Prowler... now thats a quality joke option.
I'd have to go with Havokeff. No back story was the best. He was just an extra with cool armour and a killer rep that made Vader stop and take notice.

I have to agree with this. I had more fun coming up with my own kick-ass backstory than any that's been made for him (in the novels or the movie). In my opinion adding to all his feats and powers, while at the same time revealing his history has made him significantly less cool than a random merc who was respected even by Vader.

Re: Which Boba Fett do you like better?
I don't mind him being a clone turned bounty hunter, but I would have liked it more if he would have been just some random clone and not the unaltered son of Jango. He was not needed in Episode II at all except perhaps to eventually sell children's books.

Absolute, fanwank, ridiculous, EU type bullshit that wove a character into the story that completely did not need to be there. Even the character of Jango only served as "OMG KEWL BOBA VS OBI-WAN!!!!111!!!1" bullshit. It was all fanservice and it sucked.DrMckay wrote:I'd lke to know your thoughts, Which Fett do you prefer, and why, and what did you think of the change to his backstory wrought by Lucas and co in the Prequels.

Re: Which Boba Fett do you like better?
I agree with havokeff, original movie Fett should have been on the list. The jouneyman protector EU Fett isn't as shoehorned into importance as prequel Fett, or as obnoxious as the wanked-out current EU Fett, but he was still off IMO. "Sex before marriage is immoral" (paraphrasing)...meanwhile the guy works for Jabba who is a gangster and probable rapist. Yeah, right.
Watching TESB again, I can see why people originally latched on to this character. Vader's stern warning about "No disintegrations," his itchy trigger finger, and his willingness to stand up to Vader rather than get stiffed all make for a cool and badass minor character who isn't too over-the-top. His coolness came from his personality, not his ridiculous ability to fight Jedi with his bare hands as recent EU would have us believe.

I like the OT movie Fett best. I never even really cared about his back story as a kid--he was just a guy with cool armor and a lot of ruthlessness.

Re: Which Boba Fett do you like better?
I'm OK with the kiddie Boba turning into adult Badass Boba Fett. Vader knew who Jango was, after all he was at Geonosis. It stands to reason that somewhere along the line he found out that Boba was Jango's unaltered clone; since the 501st was so loyal to Vader, ironically it helps explain why Vader paid extra attention (and showed more respect?) to Boba in TESB. Boba was cut from the same cloth as the 501st troopers, but more ornery and independent.

Re: Which Boba Fett do you like better?
When you look at the 6 movies in order without the EU bullshit, the presence of Boba Fett is actually a nice little bit of continuity linking two eras. It also really sorta sells the changes that occur in the years between trilogies; while Jango Fett, Bounty Hunter wears shiny silver armour and uses dueling pistols, Boba Fett, Bounty Hunter has scratched and worn armour and uses a beat up looking rifle. Also, they both go out like chumps due to malfunctioning jetpacks.

Why was Fett even still at Jabba's? It has been what, 4 years? Does he have an unlimited tab on Tattonie?
Re: Which Boba Fett do you like better?
Yeah except when you go in order in AOTC Jango and Boba are main/important characters and Jango is a bad ass that is the template for a galaxy conquering force and stands in the company of Sith Lords and galactic leaders and can pick off fully trained Jedi and holds his own against Mace Windu. By the time you get to TESB Boba is a cool, but standard bounty hunter who can't afford new equipment, with two lines, that ends up getting his ass kicked by, basically a Padawan, and a blind guy with a stick only to die as a punch line "burp". Yeah... that is cool.open_sketchbook wrote:When you look at the 6 movies in order without the EU bullshit, the presence of Boba Fett is actually a nice little bit of continuity linking two eras. No, you have to take them in order they were created, or Boba is a complete fucking tool compared to his pops.

P.S. What the hell is "Storni Glass Prowler"? I've never heard of that.
And if I HAD to pick one of the options, I would take the canon.

Re: Which Boba Fett do you like better?
Canon Fett is a joke. He has almost no personality whatsoever that makes him interesting. HE was a side character serving as a "plot device" nothing more or less. At least the prequels if they had to include him gave him some measure of personality.
As for the EU, there re many different iterations of fett beyond the "journeyman protector" stuff and Traviss' version. As I (vaguely) recall the Sarlacc story (or stories) were of a different flavor (He was empathizing with the Sarlacc or some other nonsense I recall), and for a brief time Dengar and Fett teamed up (again a bit out of character). The Dark Empire Fett was slightly different (though more akin to the movies). There was one short story where Fett took on a small Imperial Garrison to capture a bounty, and the KW Jeter Fett from the Bounty Hunter Trilogy, of course, especially since it tried tying together some of those short stories.
There may have been some comic book versions of Fett too, but they tended to be more comical (like Fett in Dark Empire... such as Chewbacca jumping him and activating his jetpack and causing him to hit the ceiling headfirst.. or Fett somehow managing to crash into a planetary shield while chasing Solo.)
I tend to like the KW Jeter Fett the best.

What about an option for Post Dark Empire but Pre-AoTC canon Fett? I liked the idea of Fett being a former stormtrooper who murdered a superior officer.
