Technically, the Syrian caliphate dominates a lot of land, just that it's mostly desert. It is up to the area around Cestiphon.Steve wrote:Fin, you want to draw that up?
Sadly, I don't really have the ability to draw nice maps and I plainly suck at using photoshop or illustrator. Much less have the software.
I would like to remind Zor that doing any dickery in that area has a habit of drawing me in, along with my nice bomber force.

Before I go to bed, a few items
You don't need lots of drawing skills to load up photoshop/paint shop pro/MS paint/whatever and draw some free-form lines, if just to give us some broad ideas. If you want I can cooperate with you on fine-tuning a map.
I don't think Zor would do something to draw the wrath of the Byzantine Empire.
And finally, Zor, the Conference is going under elastic time I figure, there's no way I'd be there IC longer than a week. I have a country to run and an election campaign to deal with.

Getting the LEM, SM and CM there means I need the durn Ares V and that isn't until later, I still have to figure out how to get 5 or 6 RS-68s to work in concert with each other...which is half the reason I am going to be playing with 5 and 7 CBC variants of the Delta IV over the next few years.
Our Moon is so small you only need 50-60 tonnes of lift capacity to replicate Apollo, and something like 80 for Orion. Hence why the FASTA Moon rocket is a Saturn III rather than a full-blown Saturn V which is considered a "superheavy" booster (and actually not like Saturn at all, closer to Energia in looks and with provisions for strap-on boosters)
Christ I keep forgetting that. I was planning my Moon shot based upon need roughly 40-45 tonnes to TLI based on Earth's escape velocity. This is all in order to support a 4 person crew with SM, CM and LEM. Given that Earth is suddenly smaller and thus less massive I could probably be orbiting the moon sometime well before the end of the decade...well shit. Ares just got bumped to workhorse of moving shit into space instead of moon rocket...now if I can just finish getting the Delta IV series online...

Yes, and with lower surface gravity to boot. The moons are also all pretty small things:Shroom Man 777 wrote:Wait, our world is smaller?! :O
EDIT: Astronomical data:
Miranda, lunar orbit, 198 km radius, surface gravity ~0.17 m/s²
Two captured astroids like Phobos and Deimos, in an erratic orbit with closest approach at geostationary orbit.
World surface gravity is 9.02 m/s².

Our world is neglibly smaller. The big savings come from the fact that you need to get orders of magnitude less fuel to get back from the moon.

9.02 m/s² surface gravity for our world is a nontrivial change.PeZook wrote:Our world is neglibly smaller. The big savings come from the fact that you need to get orders of magnitude less fuel to get back from the moon.
Mimas' escape velocity is ~259.5 m/s, compared to ~2380 m/s for the real moon.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.

Honestly, I'd like to see our planet have a decently-sized moon, and the Phobos/Deimos analogues put into sane orbits, though it's probably too late for putting in a big moon.

It's fine with an exception of a few details, such as the MiG-105 from the SNC. That has already been tested, and flown, with full autonomous operation. But that's classified, so it's fine.
Of course, there's the Buran but that's not public yet. The Energia/Ares modular rocket is on its way....
But the SNC position is to use space for uses both military purposes and civilian research, but the time for civilian travel, nya, we aren't go get involved in that.

It's not like we'll use it up anytime soon ; And because it's so small, we could use heavy boosters to start mining it far more easily than Earth's moon
BTW, I just realized something. 10% less gravity means more range for all airplanes and missiles

Eight per cent less gravity, actually, but yes. But it's so small it'll be less likely to have awesome resources for the taking, plus I want my real estate. Mimas also has less surface area than many countries on the planet!

Of course, the surface area is small, but, well...it's not like hundreds of kilometers of dead wasteland is prime real estate, anyway

Side Note to Phongn: Stas didn't bother to post, but he assumed that we did more tests on the warheads to miniaturised them, which is why we started deploying nukes in Iskander missiles.

Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread V
Is it that impossible at this point? I mean Wilkens was already doing his plans based on a bigger moon, though it would probably throw FASTA for a bit of a loop.phongn wrote:Honestly, I'd like to see our planet have a decently-sized moon, and the Phobos/Deimos analogues put into sane orbits, though it's probably too late for putting in a big moon.
I suppose the question is, has anyone sent anything to orbit the moon(s) or otherwise done anything where a defined power (thrust, whatever you space boys call it ) is indeed set in stone or too late to change? If not, I don't see any reason we couldn't do a change if there's a sufficient consensus.
Of course if anyone has orbited the moons based upon their current size and they don't have the technical ability to do so with larger moons, then yes it is too late.
