We're trying to make the USN sound decent, right now I've seen Michelin travel maps with more military bravado.
Actually it was the tradition of the navy for a long time to name cruiser for cities (with a few noteable exceptions) and battleships for states.

now the navy is naming it's sub's that way.

SBN's (boomers) get named after states
USS Alabama
USS Rhode Island
USS Ohio

while SSN's(fast attack) get named after Cities:
USS Los Angeles
USS Cheyanne
USS Orlando
All the more good names for Her Majesty's RN, good chap. :)

Too many synonyms... plus it's French. The French have a ship named that (boat I think actually, class of boomer). so they can keep it.

I'd like the build the CSGN Mark II Strike Cruiser design, only with the Mark 26's, and Tomahawk launchers replaced by one vast 256 cell VLS farm.

[1] Quincy
[2] San Francisco
[3] Houston
[4] Cleveland
[5] Helena
[6] Boston

All named for cruisers which performed well in battle, though several ended up on the bottom anyway, except for Boston which is named for the first guided missile cruiser in the USN.

Actually, the new SSNs are going to be named after states (at least partially).

Fuck that. I'm tired of this political nonsense for ship naming. The old methods actually made sense.
