Dr Who 2009

Post by Bedlam »

What do people want to see in the Dr Who specials this year? Should they link together to make a longer story? Follow a similar Theme? Be completely stand alone?

How do you want the next regeneration to occur? Who gets to kill the Doctor this time?

What whould you like the personality of the next doctor to be now that the actor has been decided? What type of companion would you like there to be?

As the new doctors going to be young I'd go for an older companion, perhaps a running joke of everyone assuming the companions in charge. I wouldn't mind multiple companions again perhaps a male and female companion.

One needs to have River's first meeting with the Doctor if Davies doesn't want to end his running by screwing Moffet before he's even started.
Since one of them will obviously have the Daleks in after he wrote their return excuse into the Christmas episode, they need to win. Achieve their objective for future use and escape more or less intact.

The only 'feature' I'm interested to see is 'doesn't suck'. If people with taste say it's good, I might even watch one.

I'd quite like to see the last special done with Tennant in the old-age makeup again, and him to keel over due to exhaustion at the end, like Hartnell.

Along this line I'd actually like a Doctor to die for a reason again; it'd do something interesting to the character if Tennant was killed while in one of his furious rages.

Why do we have to see him die?

Just have the new series pick up with a new doctor with Tennants doctor having lived for centuries after.

Otherwise that whole thing with the ER Lady will have been pointless.

Not really. The are lots of things the Doctor does that we never get to see. No reason why this couldn't be one of them. In reality, we may never get to see River again. Nor the Doctor's daughter.

I'm with Stark, anything that doesn't suck or fuck up existing characters' personalities (and I'm looking at you Journey's End) will do for me.

Because Journey's End cockteased us.

Even assuming they can't get her again (and yeah, I'd like to see her again), if you just plunk him in the old makeup, and state that he's now 1,495, then there's plenty of space.

Beeb
Doctor Who role for ex-EastEnder

Former EastEnders star Michelle Ryan and comedian Lee Evans will guest star in Doctor Who's Easter special, the BBC has confirmed.

Ryan will play the mysterious Lady Christina de Souza in the special episode, entitled Planet of the Dead.

"I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who and very excited to be joining David Tennant and the Doctor Who team," she said.

Evans plays a character called Malcolm, whose life becomes connected to the Doctor's in unusual circumstances.

Planet of the Dead is the first of four Doctor Who specials, marking the end of David Tennant's tenure as the Time Lord.

'Can't wait'

Ryan is best known for playing Zoe Slater in the BBC One soap and starring in the American remake of Bionic Woman.

Recently, there has been speculation that she could be cast as the Doctor's new assistant, when Tennant's replacement, Matt Smith, takes on the role next year.

It is not known whether this appearance rules her out of that role - Catherine Tate's character Donna Noble first appeared in a Doctor Who Christmas special 15 months before she returned as the Doctor's assistant.

Ryan said: "It is such a fantastic show and I can't wait to get started."

Executive producer and writer Russell T Davies said: "Michelle is one of the most sought-after young actors in the country and we are delighted to announce that she will be joining the team.

"As always the script is being kept strictly under wraps. However, we can reveal that Lady Christina is a woman with a mysterious past who's going to have a huge impact on the Doctor."

Filming on the episode has already begun in Wales.
I had also heard that the rubber faced maniac known as Lee Evans had a role as well, which points to a clear case of lunacy on someone's part.

Interesting... Was the speculation that Patrick Stewart would guest star and moreover as the Meddling Monk merely speculation, or will that be one of the other three?

Personally, what I want to see for the doctor again, possibly not for the specials, but for the new season, is a multicompanion Doctor. Some of my favorite times in the series were the times where he had several people kicking about in his TARDIS, and the interplay was quite interesting (hilarious as well, especially during the Hartnell era where he loved nothing more than to goad Chesterton on). And not just for a few eps at a time- have a 'full Tardis' for awhile. I'd also like to see some more UNIT stories when he returns to earth, trying to get them to stop relying on their force first philosophy, and possibly with the doctor taking a Companion from within their ranks.

I'd also like to stop the cock-teasing with the 'last of the time lords'. He's not, we know there are a few others randomly out there who were on the run from or had otherwise cast off Gallifrey (Reg Chronotis, for example, or the Tibetan mystic who helped #3 regenerate into #4), otherwise randomly cocking about the universe (the Meddling Monk), we know the Master doesn't stay dead, and Susan is on earth in the late 2100's somewhere unless the Doctor moved her around somewhere, and Romana was last seen in E-space, not counting the novels (which I tend not to anyways...)

I'd also like to see some other old companions again, even if to discover what happened to them. Especially Susan, Jamie, Zoe, Dodo, and some others like that. They never did get proper conclusions, and "got your memory erased" was just as cheap with Jamie and Zoe as it was with Donna (I'm still waiting for the amnesia to break down and the new Doctor to need to deal with DoctorDonna going psycho and a bit 'vengeful god' what with the Doctor's messed up psyche in her skull).

Of course, all that's just random thoughts of things I'd like to see, and I know you can't fit all of that into a reasonable frame and make a good show out of it, but I can hope for a little of it, can't I?

If Patrick Stewart becomes the Meddling Monk, I expect to see an explosion of ST / Doctor Who crossovers especially involving the Doctor mistaking Captain Picard for the Monk.

I'd like to see a single story span an entire season. And have it written by a single author (or set of authors) to maintain continuity rather than the current model of having different author write each episode.

Preferably I'd like to have the story about how/why River Song became such a close companion as to learn the Doctor's name, though you know that's never going to happen.

Oh, and having the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Master stay dead. Period.

And while I'm wishing, I'd like to have a pony :)

The daleks and the cybermen, MAYBE could stay dead, but the Master, I wouldn't bet on it.

As for season long Arc, it'd have to be done like the Key to Time or Trial of a Time lord, since I can't see 13 eps of a typical NuWho story working out without some sort of break up in the middle.
