Thank you for fucking up the poll and admitting it, dumbass.

Xerxes: since this is more of a poll and not a debate (particularly one about laws and tax, like that one was), I don't think there'll be any problems.
I'm hoping so, Spanky. But as the other thread was evidence, some people here have some very negative reactions to smoking.

Isn't there a Law of Forums relating to this? If not, there should be.

Has anyone seen the Ikea commercial mocking the Ant-Pot commercials? It might be a Canadian store, I don't know.

Not all anti-smokers march in protest. Some of us just quietly gather and then pass high-fine-punishment by-laws prohibiting smoking in public. And that works well for all parties, as far as I'm concerned. Smokers can still smoke, albeit outside in the arctic weather or driving rain, and I don't have to breathe in smoke, and get the added bonus of laughing at smokers standing around getting frostbite in the middle of winter.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Never smoked, never tried it, never want to. 2nd hand smoke is bad enough with my mild case of asthma, which means I really do have to be careful when going out to clubs or hanging out in bars. I try to stay away from places where smoking takes place, but when a bunch of friends drag you out you gotta go once in a while.

I never smoke indoors anyway, except at a restaurant or bar that allows it. Even in the middle of winter, I smoke out on the porch, or the balcony of my friend's apartment. The stale smoke smell is a cast iron bitch to get out.

I'd have no problem with smoking in public if only I was allowed to indulge publically with my own recreational pursuit as well. Like smoking, it is both relaxing and enjoyable and it leaves a disagreeable byproduct.

Since second-hand smoke is supposedly harmless according to people like Shep, I think I should be allowed to carry an industrial canister of hydrogen cyanide around and pump it into peoples' faces wherever I want. After all, it's just one of the many healthy ingredients in second-hand smoke, which we're being told is totally harmless. And if you don't like it, then you must be a rabid anti-hydrogen cyanide fanatic, out to trample on my rights.

I lived with a smoker for 22 years. My dad. He smoked since he was a kid. He developed emphasema and lung cancer and died 5 years ago. Cancer fucking sucks. It eats away at you. You get irritable and loose so much weight. Smoking sucks. :(

To the smokers:
If you want to kill yourself I suggest you put a gun to your forehead.
My Father smoked for about 55 years. One after another. He would wake-up and stick one in his mouth. Automatically. Disgusting filth. Father couldn't walk more than a few steps without gasping for breath. His skin was grey, his fingers were yellow.
I just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

To the self-righteous newbie: kindly go fuck yourself. It sucks what happened to your dad, but get off your fucking soapbox, alright? Smoking is bad. I get that. I figured it the fuck out already. You're not giving me any new information. I'm not going to quit because I got a fucking lecture from some schmoe on a webboard.

Jesus Christ, I keep telling myself I'm not going to participate in these fucking smoking threads. They're lousy for the blood pressure...

Fucking hell, Kel, I'm sorry. Smoking does suck. Severely. One of my very close friends lost her best friend at the age of 10 (I didn't know her then) to lung cancer, because her parents smoked.
I realsie it was a while ago, but I hope this thread hasn't reawakened too much past pain.

I.E. most teenagers.

Since smoking is highly addictive, there needs to be something more to deter kids from doing it. And it isn't just peer pressure. A lot of smoking kids pick up the habit from their parents.

Perhaps you shouldn't read smoking-related threads, then. Because the facts about smoking health hazards aren't going to change, and people will keep pointing them out.
