Yup, just got it. A one day late birthday present. I haven't played it yet but I'm about to. Is it any different from the playstation version?

Yeah, the textures are way better, and there are some other differences. this site details them.

Congratulations. You've just taken your first step into a larger world.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Congradulations. Ever since my brother installed his copy (bought in Russia for a mere 200 ruples) at my dads, it's the only game I play there. Die, Granny, Die.

It's MUCH better on the PC than the PS/2.

IMPORTANT GAMING RULE OF THUMB: Do NOT buy ANY game for a console that you can buy for the PC, because the PC will be bigger, faster, sharper, and above all, has the support of the internet modding, mapping, and texturing community, for added replay value.

I just got pissed off because I couldn't finish a mission yesterday and kept on having my car explode me not being able to get out quick enough and die. I am pissed off again cause now I'm at a point where I can't do any of the missions for any of the guys  .

Yeah, I got GTA III a bit late but that was cause I wasn't even planning on getting it and instead just waiting for Vice City to come out for PC

For real fun, use this cheat code combo:
1) Make all the pedestrians fight each other
2) arm them

It's like you're in freakin' Beirut man! Getting weapons are easy, living long enough to use them is hard.

Then do Ambulance or Firetruck missions.

1) Use the arrow keys, or go to Options and remap them to some keys that you're comfortable with. I use the same keys as my FPS games, that is the YGHJ control set.

2) Whenever Rockstar damn well feels like it.

weaponsforall - Does what it says

I just use the garage editor to get bulletproof/fireproof/explosionproof/crashproof cars. It's hilarious when you have a 4-star wanted level and the civilians are blasting the cops with rocket launchers :)

yes. practice. dont use cheats.

i completed the game without cheats within 4 weeks. you could probably do it within4 days with the right cheats.

Yes, but completely by accident. I was heading over the bridge bridge from the first island to the second, and traffic was so light that I didn't have to slow down or steer around anyone. I didn't notice I had become airborne until the street sign passed beneath me. I managed to stay aloft for about thirty seconds before I crashed, but I failed in my goal (to land inside the football stadium). Only managed to duplicate it once.

The best place to take off is at... surprise, the airport.

Drive forward (where there's a lot of flat ground and no obstacles) holding the NOSE DOWN key. When you start to hear a scraping noise (that's the nose grinding itself down) release. The Dodo will nose up instantly; tap the NOSE DOWN key repeatedly to keep it level.

I've flown for over 2 minutes starting this way. Oh, and a hint: never hold down any of the control keys once you're airborne. Just tap them.

No, you guys are misunderstanding me...

using the arrow keys makes him RUN in the pc. Holding shift makes him sprint a short distance. Somebody told me the guy can walk too but I don't see any instructions on how to 'walk' (NOT RUN!)

Played with cheats on for pedestrians to go crazy with guns and for me to have all weapons. It was fun for a while, I eventually took away their guns cause they kept destroying my vehicles :x although it was fun to see them flaming each other :D . Eventually even that got boring, the police doesn't go above 4 stars in the first district?

His 'sprint' is running. He cannot walk normally.

Has anyone gotten to the Observatory on the third island? I noticed it on the map, but can't seem to get to it.

Short story: There is no observatory.

It was apparently left out of the game, like the ability to fly a helicopter. The code for helicopter flight was included in GTA3, but they never went through with the idea--though it is in Vice City.

there are supposed to be some hidden places you can only reach with the dodo though and you must be extremely skilled to maneuver it.
