I liked the spacebattle, but overall I though the film was weak. Why couldn't we get an outcome like that of ST:TUC, where something meanful happens that forever changes the Trek universe? This film could have been so much more. If the producers had some testicles, they could have made something special.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

B&B-era movies are plain and simple extended-time episodes. The actors are getting pretty annoying, and it's the same old characters without any improvements, it's been more than 15 years since TNG, hasn't their personality grown since then?
First-Contact was more strong, but only because of the conflict between Picard-Data-Bitch. For instance, the Vulcans arrive, and they zip forward in time, the end. Why couldn't show more? Did they make it? Is the future altered? How did they recovered the lifeboats? Back to the Future did this so much better...
Insurrection was a popcorn movie, the only good parts are the space combat scenes, not even the "showdown at OK Corral" was good, things were too much... artificial, plastic. Once again the characters don't get any better, it's the same, same, same... They leave the Briar Patch, what then? What are the repercussions of the whole incident? How do they manage without a warpcore?
Nemesis, I'm part of the large group waiting for the DVD, but by all the posts around here it feels once again it's another extended-episode.

Actually, it got mostly mediocre reviews and was certainly not something that inspired the average viewer. It simply did poorly because it was dull movie at best and was up against stiff competition.Alyeska wrote:Just because you disliked the movie does not make it a bad movie. It had generally favorable reviews and was fun to watch.
Star Trek movies are something that depends on a reliable fanbase. B&B have taken and destroyed that fanbase, most for good. They might get away with that on TV by picking up casual viewers but that's much harder to do with movies.

I'm going to do this both for you and for the benefit of our non-EFL denizens that don't know American idioms.HemlockGrey wrote:I don't get it.

I can imagine the board meeting now ...
BERMAN: Right, so we're set on a release date, right?
ONLY INTELLIGENT PERSON IN THE ROOM: Actually, this is like 5 days before Two Towers comes out.
BERMAN: No problems then? If anyone has a problem, just say so.
OIPITR: Didn't you hear anything I said? Two Towers comes out 5 days after this does. We'll have 5 days of money-making; that's not even 2 weekends. How do you expect to pay Stewart?
BERMAN: Right, glad we all agree on a release date then.
