I was never saying to return it to Coilerburg, FYI. From my note:
to ensure the rapid return of the submarine and her crew to the Corporate Republic of San Dorado,
I don't consider them a failed state, myself.

But now that it's being returned and the exterior is intact, we can all say that those rumors were unfounded, and I'm sure that when San Dorado retakes possession of the boat, they will be happy to confirm to the world that the interior was similarly unmolested, I'm sure. And if that Coiler captain or crew wants to say otherwise? Well that's just sour grapes, right?

In other words: let the diplomatic coverup begin!

Dunno. I'm not entirely clear as to the CSR's disposition in-game. Just heading the idea off at the pass. :P

Though I am curious as to how President Stanislav would react to such a message. Do note that Gero did not issue a retraction to him, nor an apology.

Off the record, he was going to send a more diplomatically-worded message with roughly the same thrust to it.

Perhaps we should have some kind of diplomatic shouting match? I know, I know, it'd be like, say, Iran's Ahmedinijad (I can't recall his full name) having a public shouting match with Vladimir Putin or something, but it would probably be amusing in spite of (or because of) my relative impotence.

On an unrelated note, are there any bans on particular ammunition types?

PeZook wrote:Guys, this really isn't complicated. A misile sub submerged in territorial waters already violated the Convention On The Law Of The Sea. Even if it doesn't have the orders aboard, so what? It's a question of sending off one ELF message telling it to fire. Why do you think the US and USSR signed that agreement prohibiting SSBNs from crawling up to each other's shores?

The Coilers are lucky they weren't torpedoed right away, after what happened to Astaria.
The thing is if they had been torpedoed that would be fine...it wouldn't be casus belli since it was defense of territorial waters, the sub couldn't shoot back since that would be. In other words sinking the ship is fine, at which point a maritime salvage court would be forced to rule on possession of the wreck and I expect they would find for Coiler (since they are the legal owners of the vessel). Detention of the vessel is also certainly allowed however destruction of the property falls into a category akin (not the same just vaguely similair) to eminent domain: Yes Shroom can seize the vessel but doing anything with it would require compensating Coiler/San Dorado. The main point is that the sub is, at all times, the legal property of Coilerburg/San Dorado. Shroomia has the legal right to inspect and detain it in accordance with recognition of its borders and the violation of territorial waters but at no piont does detention grant Shroomia legal title over the vessel. This means that damage not consistent with legal inspection or detention is a violation of Coilerburg/San Doradan property.

Hey Shroom, what's the protocol to this visit? Do we all arrive at the same time, arrive earlier informally and then greet the crowds the next day together, arrive one after another to ceremony..or what? :)

I'd say it'd optimal if we arrived beforehand without ceremony, and then met somewhere for the initial ceremonies.

I find the idea that Duke Lelouch would warn his peers of his imminent arrival only a few hours before he hops on the plane to Shroomania pretty amusing myself. It's so nice and informal!

Well, yeah - it's not like I have anything against him visiting, it's just that he basically went "Hey I gonna drop by" on the phone and then left for the airplane. This gives the people running a massively complicated visit full of inevitable headaches only a few hours to organize additional security, accomodations, rearrange itineraries, close off some streets and open others, rearrange aircraft traffic etc. :D

The panic is gonna be epic.

Pfft, you people are overthinking it. SNC has the El Cheapo Spammable Solution: Soyuz with a gun (and we could fit one or two missiles in the service module)!

Yeah, we have the Mig-105, too, but Soyuz is cheapcheapcheap :D

A note on the Soyuz program: I will be posting a modified schedule soonish, since a lot has changed since the last one.

Also, I have some suspicions WRT to Beowulf's math, but I need some time to do my own before challengizing him :D

Pfft. I invested easily over a hundred million bucks on a 150KW laser, and committed several research teams to work on all aspects of laser development, so much so that I have 3 different laser technologies under-evaluation, with the potential to scale all of them up, with targets including 500KW and above.

The Eagle can actually be like...like a space-cruiser!

It has a reactor to power the lazor, and enough thrust so that we can fit it with armor plates and lots o'sensors!

We'll buy one from Coyote, modify it and call it the Prometheus :D

A hundred million gets you 150 kW? I recall stating a while ago that I'd developed a greatly inferior chemical laser for about 2 billion. Can I retcon its capabilities or cost? Both?

The bigger question is why you are even bothering to invest in an inferior technology.

The actual cost probably saddles around 500 million thereabout. But what bugs this is not the money but the time it takes to iron out the multitude of engineering and physical issues. I have more than enough money to spend on it, and I have spent time spending it.

Because Miratia is a shithole duchy. I don't get to have the shiniest toys in every field. In fact, I'd be pleasantly surprised to discover that I had the shiniest toys in any field, for that matter.

In any event, I consider a somewhat inferior chemical laser that could fit in a cube van to be better than no laser at all.
