Computer WTFs
Every time I go to save a picture in the "My Pictures" folder, it asks me if I want to save a temp file. Why is that?

On a related note the link to the Mozilla ad-blocker script that Einy posted tends to make the little BBS menu in the upper right disappear.

They're very likely to know the answer.
Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who did not.
Sounds like the registery value pointing to "My Pictures" has been trashed somehow.
Run regedit, navigate to the following key:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders"
Then modify the value "My Pictures" to point to the right directory.
Oops. dint get the right reg-key.
Navigate to:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"
Then change "My Pictures" to "%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures"
That will restore it to the default place. "%USERPROFILE%" is the path were your profile is actually stored. Use this, dont hard code to actual location.
Might need to log off & log back in to force windows to re-read the registery value. But test it before to see if it works.

Hey, here's another one for that list of yours:JediNeophyte wrote:If its XP, just adds to my list of "Why XP fucking sucks." Sometimes when I'm accessing websites (like yesterday, when I was browsing SD.net), XP opens up 60 or so BLANK IE windows, and if I attempt to close them, it opens up 3 more in each one's place. Furthermore, I cannot Ctrl+Alt+Del the thing, because Ctrl+Alt+Del won't work either, and the Start button doesn't function either. Only thing to do is to reset the fucking thing. Microsoft better have a patch for this soon.

Re: Computer WTFs
WTF! That should not happen. Have you scanned you computer for spyware/viruses ect? The whole "I attempt to close them, it opens up 3 more in each one's place" sounds like some type of virus/spyware.DPDarkPrimus wrote:Hey, here's another one for that list of yours:JediNeophyte wrote:If its XP, just adds to my list of "Why XP fucking sucks." Also if Ctrl+Alt+Del doesnt come up right way, and you have the welcome screen selected to show up. Do Not press it againt, or you can do a temp DoS attack against yourself due to the fact that Task manager runs at a higher priority than normal apps.

More information:
The temp files are always some variant of "wbk27.tmp". Nosing through Google, I discovered that it's a temp file created by OE when you open an attachment. But I don't use OE and it only happens trying to save to "My Pictures".
EDIT: Fixed, apparently. There was a shortcut leading to a folder in the same directory and deleting that apparently solved the problem.

Quick tip: Always REMEMBER that XP comes with a "System Restore" function right out of the box. Should you notice the puter going into ID10T mode, just go back to a time when it was working OK. That will get you out of the hole 98% of the time. The other 2% I was too drunk to notice any improvementDalton wrote:More information:
