I for some reason had a bout of nostalgia and I started thinking about this old show I watched occasionally, it was probably in the late 1990s sometime. It was about humans and evolution. Evolution in the bad sense I think, a new type of human has evolved and they are gonna take over, we're going the way of Homo Erectus.
These new humans are much more predatory, they mature sexually much faster and have litters instead of one kid, they're also really smart and telepathic (I remember in the show there was some bullshit about their EEGs lighting up like christmas trees, like machines could sense electrical interference from far away). I don't remember much about it, the main character was a woman and she had one of these new humans helping her too, don't really remember why but in one episode he got genetic therapy and reverted to baseline human or something.
Any of this ring a bell? I mostly want to know how the series ended. It's a loose string I'd like to tie up.
Help me figure out what show this was.

Was it called 'Prey'? I remember watching some, but channel 4 put it on at about 2 in the morning, so I forgot about it, but looked promising.

Yeah, it was "Prey", here's the IMDB page. It had Vincent Ventresca on it before he became the Invisible Man.

That name came to my mind to.Raptor wrote:Was it called 'Prey'?
The premise of the show was quite interesting as far as I remember the early episodes.
It started in the first season with a science experiment which revealed that many high security criminals had certain genetic traits.
The evidence let the lead scientist to believe that there is a more agressive human race that is superior to the homo sapiens sapiens.
This homo soperior had heightened senses, was fertile at the age of 12 and always gave birth to four children (quadriplets?).
But the story went to fast into going public with the new race.
I never watched it regularly as I still went to school in the late 90s (it was aired from 23:15 to midnight I think and school started at 8:00 and I needed my beauty sleep - not that it helped anyway)

It also had Debra Messing before she became Grace... In fact she went directly to "Will & Grace" after "Prey" was cancelled.avatarxprime wrote:Yeah, it was "Prey", here's the IMDB page. It had Vincent Ventresca on it before he became the Invisible Man.
I actually liked her better when she was not trying to be a comedienne.
The show definitely had some interesting promise. Even its depiction of evolution was actually not that bad, since it was revealed that the new species had evolved in an isolated village in Mexico. That is pretty much how speciation happens in real evolution. Of course it was never explained why all of them did not look Native American, though. In fact most of them seemed to have Caucasian features...
Re: Help me figure out what show this was.
When I first started watching this the premise seemed a bit dubious, but I persisted with it and it got quite interesting. Then, of course, as similarly happened with Space: Above and Beyond, when it was really starting to get very good it got axed.
TVWP: "Janeway says archly, "Sometimes it's the female of the species that initiates mating." Is the female of the species trying to initiate mating now? Janeway accepts Paris's apology and tells him she's putting him in for a commendation. The salamander sex was that good."

Thats the show. Damned shame that it only got twelve episodes, it was a good show with a very interesting concept.
