I found some decent screencaps from the trailer, showing both the fallen and arcee here.

Whoa. Scorponok seems to be fighting Jetfire, if the toy design for Jetfire stands with the SR-71's engines at his thighs.

The Fallen seems to just teleport like Anubis from ZOE.

Or to keep it in the same property, like Skywarp. :P

The carrier scene looks pretty good (it also leads me to beleive that they can walk acrosss the bottom or swim somehow, which might be interesting to see) and i am looking forward to watching some sweet transformation sequences.

As for the fallen, it could have been handled worse.

Except that besides what the character looks like, we still have no idea how the Fallen will be handled.

I was talking in a purely asthetic regard. I appologize for my lack of clarity.

Okay, given that there's a blue figure similar to Arcee speeding along behind her, and the fact that there was a blue motorbike trailing Arcee in the "first day" clip, I think it's pretty much a given that Chromia is in this movie.

Why wasn't I born in the 80s when all this silly fun G1 and Batman stuff was freely avaliable? :(

I'd be pretty bemused if that was the case. She's not nearly big enough for that.
I wonder how they're going to justify female transformers, anyway. I think Orci said in an interview when the subject came round to axed characters in the first film, how Arcee couldn't make the ride because there wasn't enough time to explain why there was a female, and that just throwing an unorthodox gendered robot in there for no reason would just be stupid.

Arcee doesn't need to be female in the same way as the others don't need to be male. I have no idea what they're doing in the movie, but she can just be present and pink and it doesn't have to be a big deal. It's not like she needs huge titties or a narrow waist for no reason.

Basically, considering the shapeshifting nature of robots and the "liquid metal" they're made from to take form, they can be androgynous for all they want. Female gender isn't really a gender but an emulation. And explaining that? Simple. If they have encountered biological civilizations before, they would take antropomorphic appearances from them. Which seems to be the case with the movie's backstory, isn't it?

That's the thing; it's easy to rationalise it as a meaningless physical characteristic but I'm pretty sure they'll try to cool of a sexual reason for having gendered robots, regardless of the fact that the whole idea is stupid.

Emulating sexual relations? To be frank, the robots do emulate humans a lot in their mind functions. If their higher nervous activity patterns are similar to that of the humans, which they clearly are (all human emotions +human-like mode of intellect), they can emulate sexual relations for fun.

Isn't that the point? Being an androgynos blob of "protoform" metal isn't much fun, and it doesn't offer much pleasure.

Arcee wasn't included in TF1 because she ended up far too small compared to the other robots. I guess they fixed that. She did get a toy last time 'round.

As for gender... meh. There's also no reason for them to have two arms and legs, or humanoid faces, but there you are.

My guess is that they came into contact with a humanoid civilization prior to the events of transformers, which impacted their development. The presence of skinjob transformers only enforces this idea. Not to mention psychology.

Last time I've heard they are planning to just include her without any explanation why she is "female." I mean, they didn't really have any explanation in the first place why robots from an alien planet looks like humans, so why start now?

Pretty much any explanation would up kinda cheesy anyhow, so I guess it's for the best.

Orci remarked some time ago in a Q&A on Don Murphy's board that the gender difference between transformers can go completely unexplained in the film.

In the end, most audience members probably won't care about an explanation at all.

I'm sure the issue will be raised, loudly and often, of why there's a female robot. People seem content to nitpick holes in just about everything these days. That said, it seems harmless to me.

I hadn't even noticed before that Sam was addressing his dad in that trailer, I simply thought it was some random dude or new character. Definitely seems like something goes down at the Witwicky house, given the Bumblebee and Optimus scenes.

One question: What's the deal with that bug-looking thing that Sam pulls apart? I'd never really paid it much mind, since it's all of like a 2 second clip in the trailer, but it looked distinctly Cybertronian this last viewing (I'm picking up all kinds of new things!). Is there any info out there/any takers on what it could be?

Insecticons!
The simplest solution takes the shortest time to write down.

"My homies!" - Shatner

"The women!!" - Spock

"He's no better than Shatner!" - Phil Hartman as Bill Clinton re: Leonard Nimoy

At one time, they were hinted at being introduced for this movie, but dropped in favour of the Constructicons. I can only imagine that the fly Sam breaks apart is an Insecticon or at least some spy for the Decepticons. It certainly isn't human technology.

On body shapes, we don't have every character take on a humanoid form, it's just humanoid forms are quite versatile in many ways. You have Scorponok, Demolisher and Ravage taking on quite radically different forms, and even Starscream has a dog like design for his legs. It could be that the whole species was designed from a biological origin, and retained these features as a vestigial form. Anything's possible here, and I don't expect too much exposition over it anyway. It does make them easier to interact with organics, though.

It doesn't seem that unreasonable; a crotch-rocket style motorcycle is only ...around 8 cubic feet of stuff? In Reign of Starscream we see that she comes up to about Starscream's crotch. (ahem.) If she's about 1/10 the volume of a big Decepticon she could easily be 3 motorcycles, still be much smaller/slimmer than other Autobots, and it would foreshadow Constructicons->Devestator.

Okay, I just found a video of something that was leaked some time ago. It's pretty spoilery. As in, somewhat fundamental plot pillar spoilers.

Frankly I think the implied things this brings about sounds really lame.
