Anyone here still play Call of Duty 4?

Post by MKSheppard »

I got it for 40% off at the great circuit city liquidation sale; and it's a fun game, though I'm glad I paid 40% off; since so much of it is really scripted as hell ; like doors you can't open in buildings, etc; and the fact that much of the levels have clowncar permanently spawning enemies until you find the trigger that stops them from spawning, allowing you to move forward (the TV studio level is notorious for this).

So anyone still playing it on MP? Is there a server we can go to to knife and gun down each other?

I have both, admittedly, because I suck donkey balls on the PS3 version.

Course, I can still somehow get killed by those "knife only" retards...

I haven't played it lately but I could go for a reinstall, especially now that nVidia has fixed a lot of the driver issues with it.

The knife is too quick to come out, I agree...

The TV Studio level is ridiculous, I agree. I wish they had made the gunship mission... well, not any different, but maybe a freeform side game? Like an arcade game (but not exactly the same as the arcade version that it comes with, it's cool to shoot guys and get 500 points, but not if it means doing the same level over and over).

Before anybody razzes me for it, I just couldn't be bothered to change it from my user ID, which was the default. Not like it asked me or anything.

On the PS3 I'm "RyanThunder".

I play it on PS3 as KingMuffin00. Knives ruin multiplayer IMHO, but thankfully bunnyhoppers receive the raping they deserve.

How do knives ruin multiplayer, I can't say i've noticed it myself?

Which issues did they resolve with WaW? Gears used to be totally dominated by the shotgun, and Gears2 has takens steps to alleviate this (more or less successfully).

Well I like WaW's multiplayer, but the Flamethrower is used as a 'cheap' weapon in some servers, same with the Rifle Grenade that seems to be the new Grenade launcher. I like to use a variety of weapons myself. Some say that the MP-40 is overpowered and is lame but I can't see it. There's no doubt that with the aperture sight that it is quite accurate though. To say it's overpowered I would say is wrong, as the Thompson is more powerful per shot, though it has a smaller box mag than the MP40.

Very few of the maps seem to be as sniper friendly with the possible exception of Cliffside and Downfall. The semi-auto rifles like the Tokarev SVT and Gewehr 43 are quite interesting to use. Shotguns, there's only two, the pump action that can be modified with a grip or bayonet, and a double barrelled which can either have a grip or a sawn off modification.

Well, I suppose I am exaggerating the knife issue. I just don't like having an instantly deployable one-hit-kill weapon (that is a freaking knife) in any game where the primary attack is a slash across the chest area. There are instances where I feel a one hit kill is acceptable, such as head shots and sneak attacks, but for the purposes of CoD4, I feel the knife is a bit much. Yeah I know it's a game, and a fun one at that, but knifing still irks me. Knifing and the helicopter (now that I think of it) just piss me the fuck off. I wish the game went no farther than air strikes, or that the rest of the players would shoot the damn chopper down.

They don't. It's the giggling retards who think it's cool to use them to the exclusion of everything else who ruin it.

Count me as utterly confused at how someone else enormously limited there own firepower somehow ruins the game. More like easy kills for me, especially since if someone misses with the knife, they’ve just fucked themselves and can’t do anything else for a second. What I see as ruining the game is 32 player teams that cant shoot down a damn chopper, and deliberate team stacking.

Seriously, any decent player has the ability to instantly kill a person at significantly greater range than the knife offers. This is not to say the knife isn't a little silly, as it is my understanding that it has a very generous 'killbox', but it has the shortest range of any weapon in the game.

I mean the ones who are just good enough that it actually works somehow. You know the sort. The ones who seem to have this magical ability to avoid ever falling under your crosshairs for a reasonable period and can instantly teleport 1-2 ft. left or right as needed to avoid your fully automatic fire.

EDIT: And yes, I have encountered several of these "OnlyKife"s. :x

I generally only use the knife in COD:4 and WAW as a back up. For instance, I was stuck at the castle map in the middle of a short range fight with someone and ran out of ammo, but I just quickly used my knife rather than try to reload. Occasionally in a map like Downfall, when I'm trying to sneak behind the enemy positions, rather than give the game away if I see an enemy in a pillbox, I'll knife him rather than shoot him as I prefer to use aperture sights rather than the suppressor as my add on.

I can't say that I've seen the knife only or pistol and knife only type servers that have flooded the BF2 and BF2142 games though.

Why are you complaining about that? They're just plain better than you. If they weren't gimping themselves by decreasing their range then you would actually die faster and more frequently. I would much prefer some of my friends to use knives only simply so I actually have the chance to shoot them, as opposed to suddenly getting headshotted instantly after coming out into the open for a half a second.

I could care less that they're better than me. That's nothing. I can play on servers where I get the shit kicked out of me. Its frustrating but I can tolerate it.

Something like that is unsportsmanlike. At that point they go from superior to insulting. It's like running around insta-killing everybody and yelling about how great you are. Nobody can shut you up outside of kicking you.
