Where's the latest map? I have no idea if I'm overflying people or not with my Eagle flights.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

So far as I'm aware the old map is still good aside from:

-Change in the border States
- Caymans now have a name
- OD now controls Shepistan and the tribal regions directly and the archipegalo indirectly
- Some Frequesque changes. (sans Coilerburg plus Miratia)

Siege, Steve, where exactly are you? Would a rescue by Baernish helicopters be appropriate?

If I am reading it right they are in Sabika which means you would have to overfly all of Miratia and then negotiate over water, wilderness, or an NPC in order to get there.

It might make more sense for Miratia to do it.

It makes even more sense for either Indahopal or Coilerburg itself to save them.

A joint operation, perhaps? I drive a few thousand troops and a few hundred tanks plus support in, they extract the VIPs. :P

Minoy's even closer to the crash site than Miratia. Gino Weinberg would probably be up to leading his own rescue op. We haven't really heard from him in a very long while, so...

Realistically it'd take an hour or two, minimum, for word to fully spread. If anyone does want to try and be the rescuers, cross it by Siege and myself first so we can consider if it'll fit into what we have in mind.

Also to consider is that Miratia, Minoy, etc. would have to make sure they cleared things with the Sabikans before they launched any aerial rescue op, lest their sudden sortie be responded to by Sabika's air defenses as an incursion. This adds more time to any launch of an operation.

Well, this is the kind of situation where having a suborbital infantry transport would come in handy :D

The sight would be magnificient, a spaceplane screaming down from orbit to deploy SPACE MARINES for the rescue! ;)

FTO forces, obviously. The key is that a squad or two of heavily armed SPACE MARINES guarantees survival of the VIPs for the time it will take to mount a real rescue operation.

Granted, this is kind of a niche role for such a complicated transportation system :D

Yes, well, this is the part where my EXPERIMENTAL SUPERHEAVY GUNSHIP (which is, coincidentally, both heavier than air and about the size of an apartment building) lands and picks them up.

Is this the time when I should point out that, given the choice, I'm pretty sure San Dorado and Cascadia would prefer the Shinra Republic over the CSR for a variety of reasons, should the FTO decide they need outside help? :P Given that it is their heads of state in danger, I'd imagine their concerns would carry considerable weight.

On a non-diplomatic note, I just realized that having a battalion of Marines in the Vineyards, while having my CNO say that the people I have over there aren't really set up for a Combat SAR, was kind of silly. So I can only explain that as being they don't have their usual air support (CH-53s, MH-60s, AH-1 gunships, etc.) and probably use the Navy's helicopters to get around. The Marines are mostly there for base security, and also to deploy on the ships to work as boarding teams, especially since we've joined in the anti-piracy efforts of the FTO.

So basically I have the troops that could go in and help rescue Presidents Garrett and Hank, but their helicopters aren't really optimised for the role.

Diplomacy is what you say. Respect is what you earn by actions. Even the best diplomatic "sorry, we don't have assets in vinicity and can't do anything!" isn't better than a couple of gunships ready for action now.

San Dorado and Cascadia would have to deal with the guy who is in vinicity. Better Red than dead ;) or better Red than "I have something very far away". ;)

Maybe not, but then I'm sure they have their own kit that can do the job as well.

Anyway, your intelligence gathering, which I know you'll do, probably won't be that fruitful thanks to geography. You'll pass over a part of Miratia (they're the blue one in the middle, right?) but you probably won't see much other than the relatively narrow corridor they let you fly through. Because there's really no valid reason for you to fly all over their country. Or to fly over the Vineyards, Indhopal, Baerne or San Dorado itself. The other nations are NPC which, IIRC, aren't really major FTO players anyway. And I'm betting anything sensitive in Coilerburg was probably secured and transfered elsewhere, until they're sure the situation is stabilized. Which, obviously, it isn't.

Poor PCIA snoopers. :(

I'm primarily interested in Coilerburg and what they have deployed there. I will be making very low-altitude flights to ensure the safety of the landing zone for the whole duration of the evacuation.

Besides, if we give our pilots some target practice against Coiler-based insurgents, that would only be good for them. They are getting bored and complacent there in AFSR...

I doubt we'd care where the planes and choppers come from; there's bad people with big guns after us dammit, get us the hell out of there! :)

(Though realistically I doubt anyone could get there before the San Doradan and Indhopali troops in, you know, Coilerburg do. We'll see- I'd have to run it by Steve, but I wouldn't be inherently opposed to a bunch of goddamn commies running CAS during the extraction...)
